I've grown all these plants, and many of them I still do - all of which came from you! I now grow everything in sand which is spot on with your remarks. It's been a slow process but definitely doable. I've enjoyed and learned so much from all your videos, thank you for continuing with content like this. Living in Moses Lake I cannot frequent your store but every time we make it over the mountains we stop by and always enjoy our experience. Fortunately, ordering from your site is easy and shipping is always fast. My favorite from this video - the wendtii green! I waited so long to try crypts and once I finally did I couldn't be more happy. Beautiful plants, my corys love them and we love the color. Cheers from eastern WA!

My number 1 recommendation for beginners to planted tanks who don't mind a minute of weekly trimming is Heteranthera zosterifolia aka stargrass. It's similar to pogo stellatus visually but grows faster. It really seems to help prevent algae in a new set up, and can be trimmed into very nice looking bushes. Nano fish also absolutely love it as it provides pockets of dense cover.
@Smoshylife

Does it grow tall? I’m looking for some background plant ideas
@towaofficial
@towaofficial Год назад
@@Smoshylife yes, I've had 40-50 cm long stems matting on the surface when I've let it go. If you keep trimming and replanting you can easily achieve a lush 10-12 inch tall bush. Replant the stems on their side if you want it to grow more compact. Search tropica layout 10 or 105 for some nice examples.

I will check out your website now because I really learned a lot about the plants... and even a few that I think that I might want to try out. I’ve been very successful with the plants I got from you. I use Diane Walstad’s method for lighting period. It keeps Algae down to a minimum. I actually leave about one fourth of my aquarium to let algae grow. Shrimps and Otocinclus enjoy feeding on certain Algae. I even seen my Guppies and Mickey Mouse Platyies feeding on the Algae. Your plants are excellent. From the slow growing Cryptocoryne Wendtii to the Water Sprite, which I float some of the Plantlets that grows. I sold everything I had , because I moved from Arizona to Florida. I will be starting a new aquarium soon. Thank you for you excellent service and great quality plants. You always done right by your customers. I know your a little more expensive than others, but with your awesome service; it doesn’t matter. Thank you for your service to your customers.

1:00 - I agree a beginner should stick to root tabs and gravel, but the thing is valisneria or swordtails grow way better with 1 inch of pond compost and no less than 2 inches of light gravel / coarse sand... or just plain aquasoil. Anubias has some issue with algae, so less light is more in this case. Sometimes leaves or roots start to melt away, while no other plant has this issue.

I bought an anubias nana from Aquarium CoOp a couple years ago, when I was having a bad black beard algae issue. It was just furred with it almost immediately but it didn’t quit, just kept pushing out a new leaf. A couple of months ago, I added hornwort back to my tank and that out competed the algae. Even under all that stress, it went from 3 or 4 leaves to covering the 5 inch driftwood I anchored it to. Thing is bulletproof.

I used to think low light meant it would be fine under low to high light conditions, but my Anubias experience sort of changed how I view that term. They really don't like a lot of light, and I had hair algae and brown spot algae on the leaves. Reduced my light to 40% and they're nice and lush now, and no algae anymore, but they do grow slow. I keep that in mind when I consider other plants going in the tank, as I would then avoid anything that requires high lighting, unless I could leverage shade for the low-light plants.
@PaulZyCZ
@PaulZyCZ Год назад
True, if there is not too much light, Anubias and Bucephalandra can grow in any place in planted tank, even deep ones. They grow slow, but they are one of the best plants to make a low front shrub in large tanks. Given time, even Knights of Ni would be pleased.

I actually have several amazon sword in a 36 gallon bow front top fin aquarium. There are 3 albino plecos in there too. The amazon sword are doing great for the most part. The only ones that seem to be struggling at all, are the ones that have been most recently planted. They are starting to get some darker green to their leaves. I also have one that has sprouted a stem with smaller/baby plants on it.
@hardybryan
@hardybryan Год назад
I've found the best substrate is Safe T Sorb (or generic equivalent). You will not need root tabs and it doesn't need replacing like the fancy substrates. Just sucks all the nutrients in straight to the roots. A slow running ugf will help feed the plant roots even more. Downside is it will initially turn your water into R/O water until it starts getting a little saturated. But that's not a big deal. Just dump a bunch of ferts in when you start it up. You won't need to fert again and root tabs will just be algae mines waiting to go off, so don't use them.
@trustn01rs
@trustn01rs 9 месяцев назад
Definitely not the best it's just extremely cheap and it's only good if you prime it with a significant amount of fertilizer before setting the tank up unless you want to wait months to get any benefits at all

Got all these! My tank is looking crazy good. By the way, the banana plants I received were monsters, and are remaining so with lots of roots growing out the bottom and new BIG leaves growing constantly. Then of course the red tiger lily bulbs I got have sprouted with at least a leaf or two, then more, then more. About a month into them and they are killing it! Gonna definitely order more.

I use mostly finnex stingrays on my 50+ tanks running currently, but they're mostly less than 29 gallon tanks... However, I do use led shop lights for some of my bigger, taller tanks just because I can't justify paying for fluval 3.0's, plus I don't like having to use an app...! Mostly pea gravel from my local landscape wholesaler, but I have been successful growing, mostly, sword plants in play sand... Definitely much more success growing "jungles" in gravel though... Easy green fertilizer is legit! I definitely recommend! BEWARE!! There are certain people that will tell you that you only need fertilizer in your tank if you use CO2. Couldn’t be farther from the truth. Everything about your aquarium needs balance . Lights might need to be adjusted, maybe a shorter light period, maybe even a little less fertilizer if you have a super rich aqua soil. The point is plants need food just like your fish. Don’t blame fertilizers .

*Disadvantages of having aquarium plants* Live aquarium plants need good lighting Live aquarium plants need CO2 injections to thrive Live aquarium plants need added fertilizer Live aquarium plants need aquarium plant soil Live aquarium plants make it harder to clean the tank. Live aquarium plants are hard to keep alive. Live aquarium plants can carry parasites and pest snails Live aquarium plants require more care Live aquarium plants are more expensive Live aquarium plants take up oxygen at night. Live aquarium plants require trimmings Live aquarium plants may die Live aquarium plants may get eaten Live aquarium plants will be infested with algae is a matter of time. Live aquarium plants cannot be kept with large fish. Each live aquarium plant needs a particular water conditions such as pH, water hardness, and water temperature to thrive. Dead aquarium plants, old decaying aquarium plant leaves need to be removed immediately, as it will quickly rot in the warm, bacteria-laden water. *Advantages of having aquarium plants* Aquarium plants purify the water just like land plants purify the air. Aquarium plants produce oxygen during the day Aquarium plants add beauty to the tank. Aquarium plants provide hiding places for fish and shrimp.
