Hi Cory! I wanted to let you know that I really love the fert, carbon and iron that you sell in pump tops. It so much easier and less messy than the others out there. I have some ideas / suggestions for products that I would be interested in. (1) It would be great if we could order the pump top stuff but without the pump. Now that I have them, it would be less wasteful if I could just order the new bottle without the pump. (2) It would be great to be able to get the carbon without the additive that suppresses algae, but that vals are sensitive to. I have a great algae clean up crew, and would rather use something that wouldn't stress out my vals. (3) This is a little off the wall, but as I was using my new fluval light that is controlled by the app on my phone, I started thinking about how great it would be is someone made a digital thermometer that connected to an app on my phone too. If a heater broke and started cranking out tons of heat, or if it died and the temps dropped, it would be so great if I could get an alarm on my phone. The real reason I thought of this though, was that I'm going to try a "summer tub" for the first time (thanks to Rachel O'Leary's great videos on the topic). I'm going to have a small koi in the tub, and am a little worried about keeping the water temp low enough. I'll keep an eye on it, but an alarm would really come in handy for that. Thanks so much for all of your really great and helpful videos, and those of the other folks at Aquarium Coop. I never had real plants before, and over the last few months I now have only lots of real plants and none of the plastic plants I had before. The idea of keeping an ecosystem instead of fish in a tank was really eye opening and inspiring to me!
So, to your second point, liquid carbon as you're thinking of it (co2) cannot exist within earth's atmosphere. To add to that, any and all organic matter is carbon based, and the point of these "liquid carbons" like Excel isn't to add some sort of miracle replacement for co2 injection, it's specifically for the glutaraldehyde which is an algaecide. It works, but not for the reason you or many others seem to be aware of. It works by killing off the algae before it can take hold or even after. No algae means the plants no longer have to compete against it for the nutrients and the dead algae breaks down and is then consumed by the plants. To the third point, look into heater controllers. Something like an Inkbird. You plug the heater into the temperature controller, which has a thermometer probe that you place in the water, and it turns the heater on and off to attain the temperature you set with the controller. If the heater fails and the temperature rises too high because it broke, the controller will turn off the heater and stop it from boiling all of your fish.

I got snails every time I ordered a plant from you. 14 hatched out in my quarantine tank last time. However, you didn't say that you're snail free so I didn't expect it to be that way. The plants do arrive healthy and beautiful
He has said that he actually likes the little bladder snails because of their usefulness. So if you have fish waste or plant algae problems, they might be a useful addition because they eat waste and algae. Or if you have a puffer or loach, it's like getting free fish food. lol
@@levialter31 I got free scuds. They look like a shrimp mixed with a pill bug. And are eating all my beautiful riccia. I am buying a pea puffer, but these acids are so large I’m afraid he won’t do the job. Sometimes having a nice ecosystem has its downsides. I am finding a balanced approach to be more beneficial
i love the socks you put your plants in that you sell. i bought 5 plants they all came in looking gorgeous. the Shirley temple came in looking the best. and i mean stunning for being in a box for 5 days. so was the dwarf hair grass. he came out stunning to. 10/10 stars bud keep up the good work
I have 2 small tanks that I have been planting after the fact. So, I am a novice at both caring for fish and caring for water plants. I want a carpet. I bought several carpet plants which I plugged into the substrate. The tendency is for these to gradually get uprooted and I gather them from the surface and poke them back in. This is not very successful. I have also tried seeds. This is working better. I grew up some seeds on a paper towel and poked the paper towels into the substrate. This works a little bit better than poking the tiny plants back into the substrate. In desperation, I tried putting seeds directly into the tank. I don't know if this is a great idea particularly as I am concerned the fish will eat the seeds and get sick. Nonetheless, I am now getting hundreds of tiny well rooted plants coming up. Next time, I'm planting the tank first!!!
I bought a few plants from you which I planted last week. They did melt back a bit, but I am getting new leaves and the roots look good. I measured my water parameters and found the water was good on all fronts except hardness. I threw a softing pillow in the filter and it came down. I also have "balls" of the ground cover seedlets all over the place. I have the miscellaneous variety of fish in this tank you would expect from someone who doesn't know what they are doing -- 5 mollies, 6 guppies, a tetra, a gourmani, 2 barbs, and a cori and a tiny pleco that live in a tiny plastic house. I will need another tank when these fish grow bigger. This morning I saw a very small something with black eyes and a little red behind the eye. It was hiding in the shrimp ditch surrounded by rocks and plants and shrimp. It didn't look like a shrimp, but I don't know what baby shrimp look like. I looked for other examples, but no I only find one. Could it be a single baby guppy? I am assuming that what ever it is, it is going to get eaten. I am confident I don't have the skill to pull it out of the tank without causing global havoc.
Corey, thanks. I love all the vids you have made. What I like most is that you KIS - you KEEP IT SIMPLE. No high tech very little jargon as I imagine like me and busting aquarium myths. We are hobbyists that just want an easy to manage aquarium. I have watched some strung out, rambling vids with too much high tech scientific jargon. There are plenty of vids that pile on the shit. My main problem with plants in sand is that my kuhli loaches can uproot them easily. I’m not comfortable with lead weights in the tank so I’ve been using rocks and wood to hold them down.

SO I am the tank that Cory showed when he mentioned the anubis bateri, for some reason I got a ton of snails on an anubis I put in but the Bateri was to the right and was and still is growing awesome. P.S. it flowering thats how awesome it is. I have to admit I was shouting while I watched the live stream "holy crap thats my tank!!!!" That should show you how great my anubis bateri I bought from Aquarium Co-Op is.
I have Java fern and another plant bought from a tube at petco..it wasn't marked so I have no clue as to what it is but it is a stemmed plant. It grows straight up and if I clip and replant it, it keeps growing. I have alot of guppies so I don't add anything for the plants but it made me feel good when you said it is more difficult to grow plants in sand..I have very tiny gravel as I have loaches and a few catfish here and there...my plants are doing great and when I started...the substrate stressed me out because I really wanted plants!!
Only suggestion I have for plant descriptions is kind of a relative idea about how big these plants are, picked up one of those portrait tanks you feAtured the other day, as it’s perfect for my desk at work, but scratching my head figuring out good plants to go in there wondering if some of these will take over the tank
i did plants before i forget what they are called, but like a month they are just like melting or they becoming thin and they are disintegrating and some are like having sticky black tar on it. I do used sand substrate and doing water change like once a week, they are really sticking on the sand no problem but im sure that they will die by a month or two or just look like dirty and if you try to clean it they just broke bec it is so thin.
I learn so much from your clear presentations. I've started to now purchase my aquarium plants, etc. from your website. I hope to buy my aquarium needs from your site as long as you're up! Maybe some day you will sell fish as well? (bettas)
I had three Marimo moss balls in my tank for a long time without any fertilizer/good lighting. Never moved it either. Don’t ask me how but it was thriving.
I got duck weed from coop and I love it!! Just a question I'm less then a year in the hobby and I have a 20g tall tank and I think it is a bit heavy stock. 9 panda corys 8 ember tetras and one betta. Does duck weed help consume nitrates ?
What filtration do you have? 9 panda corys seems a bit much but I don’t have small tanks. I keep two in a 37 and 5 in a 53. Pandas are also more partial to sand than any other Cory imo
you were sorting plants due to low light , placement and type. you should add temperature requirements .. Discus High 84-86... My tank actually 86-88 . Keeps away all parasites & diseases.
Corey, photons carry no electric charge and cannot bounce off one another. They pass through each other. Not sure what you're trying to say there. Photons don't really bounce at all. They're absorbed and then excite the material they hit. I'm just being pedantic lol.
Clint is correct. Photons are Bosons which means they can occupy the same state hence they can go through one another. However reflection and refraction of light with glass (fermions) is what I think you mean by the term restriking.
@Aquarium Co-op When you convert the emmersed plants to submerged @ your store, is there a specific water level keep them at to minimize conversion time?
I know I'm a bit behind on this, I'm hoping this question will still be answered. When it comes to moss balls at the 2 inch size, can I cut one into quarters and start them that small?
Easy Green was great but I had to switch to seachem because yours had no calcium in it and my plants were deficient in it... I wish you would add calcium as the plants were growing much better with it than flourish otherwise.
Ill say this from experience, Easy Green has made a big difference in my aquariums. my plants are full, green and beautiful. Thanks Cory! and Ill be looking for that Cory's Cheeseburger HAHAHA

Do InVitro plants go through a change when first planted in a Aquarium that don't so good while they adapt to immerse form? How long does this transition take? Thank You.
i got a question for ya i have a planted 28 gallon bowfront with a hang on back filter designed for 30 gallon tanks (i plan on buying those sponges tho the ones for the intake tube and the other for inside the filter from you tho by the way :P) a small bubble curtain and of course a 100 watt heater that being said the plants i have is 2 amazon swords 2 dwarf aquarium lillies (that i just got in the mail from you guys like 2 days ago :P) 2 anubius that are zip tied to suction cups 3 aponogeton "lillies" (tho i have my doubts that they are a lilly plant like the guy at petsmart said they are :P) 8 or 10 stem plants that i forgot the names of but i could point them out if i see a photo of them and 3 crytocoryne undulata reds and the tank is like maybe 2 months old at this point the fish i have are 5 redfin tetras 5 neon tetras 4 cories (1 albino and 3 "green") 5 red platties a sunset dwarf gourami 7 cherry shrimp and a leftover japanese alge shrimp from when i moved the 5 neon tetras 2 of the cories (the albino and the first green) and the shrimp to the new 28 gallon tank so the question is would you consider this tank overstocked and if it is overstocked is there still a chance with what i have right now that the bacteria will eventually populate enough to combat the ammonia in the tank or will i have to do a water change every few days for as long as the fish live and thus i wont be able to use the liquid fertilizer i bought from you guys either if thats the case so basically am i screwed and ammonia will forever be an issue for my tank or will the tank ever hit equilibrium

Found that val not liking sand much to be a myth, I've been growing vals in sand super easy, I cant get it to stop and I don't do CO2 or dose much, iron and Excel mostly.
This is fine with what you got going on. plants mostly need light and the temp you have is good for gold fish. they dont want much over 75 for long periods of time i think. my tank at 76 is doing good and it gets to 80 sometimes cuz its hot in the summer. I have 4 comet goldfish and 3 koi all doing just fine in a 55galon even around 80 degrees. I run the AC and put ice jugs in my tank to keep it cool if it gets above 80. i also have a sponge filter with a hang on back and use sunlight for my plants. Only 1/6 of my tank gets direct sunlight and i put my plants there and they seem happy. hope your having good luck, cheers.
So you mentioned in the video about determining if you are running out of ferts during the week and if you need to dose a few times a week vs increasing your single weekly dose. You never mentioned how you determine if throughout the week your plants are running out of ferts? What do you look for or test to determine if they are running out during the week? I take this as a challenge.. I have African Cichlids and I am GROWING plants in sand without weights or pots ect. I just put Monte Carlo in today. Now I know these fish are known for digging and mine do but 4 some reason they leave the plants alone %99 of the time. Knock on driftwood
Hi Cory, I am new to aquarium plants. I am setting up an aquarium for breeding live bearers and am thinking of putting vallisneria in the tank to act as cover for the fry. I have pea gravel as my substrate at the moment will the vallisneria grow well in this substrate? Is this the best plant for this kind of set up? Thanks for your help.
