🤖 Transformers Troubles: A Trade Dilemma
A collector walks into Toy Federation with a bin of Transformers goodness, ready to strike a deal with our expert toy appraiser, Ryan. However, there's a twist-some of the Transformers, like Tidal Wave and Optimus Prime, are missing crucial parts. Our collector is hopeful, though; he might have those missing pieces at home. The big question is, will waiting affect the trade value? Join us as Ryan sifts through the incomplete Transformers, makes an assessment, and ultimately settles on a trade value of $350. Will our collector take the money and part with his beloved toys? Find out in this nail-biting segment!
🔥 McFarlane Mayhem: Spawn and Angel Toy Line
But the excitement doesn't stop there! Next up, we've got a showcase of McFarlane Toys featuring Spawn and the toy line from the show Angel. The collector is eager to trade, but Ryan discovers that not all is intact-some missing pieces, some absent weapons. The collector hints at having those missing components at home. Will this impact the trade value? Join us as Ryan navigates through the McFarlane maze and arrives at a final trade value. Will the collector be satisfied, or will he hold out for a better deal?
🪙 GI Joe Gamble: Vintage Action Figures Take the Stage
As if that wasn't enough, Toy Federation welcomes a GI Joe enthusiast with a collection of vintage action figures. The stakes are raised as Ryan makes a friendly bet with fellow toy aficionado Andy to see if they can agree on the trade value. However, when Ryan hears Andy's assessment, he realizes he might have valued the GI Joes too high. Andy, with a keen eye, points out wear and tear, missing parts, and absent weapons that significantly impact the value. The collector, not ready to part with his prized possessions, decides to wait, hoping to bring back the missing pieces and increase the trade-in value.
🌟 Conclusion: Decisions, Dilemmas, and Toy Valuations
In this thrilling episode of Toy Federation, decisions are made, dilemmas unfold, and toy valuations take center stage. Will the collectors take the offered trade values, or will they hold out for a better deal? It kind of amazes me that when people bring in a huge haul and want to maximize the trade/cash value they don't bother to put in the extra effort of taking a couple hours to sift through and be sure to match the figure with it's accessories and weapons. This is the internet age, it doesn't take much effort to go online and see which figure came with which accessories and to even ballpark the value of what you have. Instead, you have these lazy people just dumping the figures and accessories and making everyone waste their time trying to figure out what is complete, what isn't, what it's worth, etc. Put in the extra effort, please!

@toyfederation - I can’t help but think a business like this is an accountant’s nightmare. Is it hard to keep track of everything on the financial side?
@bentonrp
@bentonrp 11 месяцев назад
You could be right. Toy collecting leads to a crazy headache. 😵‍💫 First is to: stick to what you like. (avoids nightmare) Second: get rid of it when you don't. (avoids drowning in the stuff)
@RealzFoSho
@RealzFoSho 11 месяцев назад
It isn't an accountant's nightmare. It is quite simple. There is no reason it should be anything but simple. You track two things. Cash In and Cash Out. That is as complicated as it needs to be. The IRS doesn't need to know what specifically was bought and sold and it could care less about how much you think you made on a single figure because it was part of a bulk buy and didn't have an individual buy price. You can track that type of stuff for yourself if you want (which is a waste of time in most cases), but as far as your accountant and the IRS care, Cash In and Cash Out on a quarterly basis are what matter. And when I say cash, I mean money changing hands, whatever the form.

If you really want to get more for your items, you need to sell them yourself and take the time. However, if you are in a situation, where you need immediate compensation, then you are out of luck as you will be expected to lose 50% to 70% to a business. They will have to find the clients to buy it may have to sit on it for a while. Unfortunately, it is what it is.

With retail price or ebay listings you have to instantly subtract 30% in seller fees, s/h, and taxes…. Then you subtract another 20-50% from that as stores typically pay less so they can profit. That’s essentially the trade in value

The 82-83 Joes (and now more, occasionally even 00s have poor plastic) are breaking a lot more often when I replace O-rings or even put them on the original Hasbro stands. Waists break and heels fracture apart when the now-brittle plastic is stressed. I've gone to larger O-rings to prevent this. So... some of those with broken O-rings may well end up also being worth much less. It's a problem because all the O-rings eventually will need replaced. Even MOC behind bubbles. And you see the broken pieces mint on card more often.
@Matt_Wilson01
@Matt_Wilson01 11 месяцев назад
Only reason the heels are breaking is because you are using early 90s style stands with the pegs a tiny bit bigger, I learnt the hard way and yes plastic quality is dropping rapidly with all toys and has been for a long time
@jasone7532
@jasone7532 11 месяцев назад
@@Matt_Wilson01 No, not using the imperfect larger peg Chinese copies marked "1988 Hasbro" that are only good for JvC, VvV, ST, DTC, etc or anything from the 90s. Heels are breaking on original 80s stands, so I have gone to using the Star Stands Type 1 supposed to be for Star Wars and ReAction on a lot of the 82-83 Joes. Later figs are getting more brittle also. They occasionally may fall off the shelf on the stand that fits and then the heel breaks off. It's a pain.

People harp on the sellers and sure you get the occasional disappointed person but for the most part I expect adults bringing stuff in know ahead of time they are getting a re-seller offer and are probably not concerned that much about it. If you're bringing in something to sell or get store credit, it means it has lost its personal value to you. Anything you actually care about you're most likely going to be trying to sell it online somewhere. But someone out there still loves those figures you no longer do, and that's where Toy Federation steps in.

We should all get what we collect for super cheap because care so much about them, we "deserve" them and when we have them they should be worth the highest value possible. Such a classic state of mind from car collectors to toys to cards to comics to rocks. We're all the same. Please actually become a seller before you even think to critique the art of the deal. Anyone claiming scams, if you only knew how stupid you sound, you'd stop. Its obnoxious! Start selling your precious collection and then tell us about how cheap you sold it all for. I dare you. @carn1fex_47 2 месяца назад
Well, I feel like a lot of people don't understand 'how the world works' or how to run a store. lol He owns a store/business. and has employees - all of that costs money. The people who talk about 'scams' are just dumb and have no idea what they're talking about. You can't go into a store and ask for $100 for a figure that's worth $100. lmao How much should he sell the figure for then? Definitely not above the 'value.' You should be happy if you get 50% - he has to handle all the 'work & costs.' Of course, there are exceptions - if you come in with the 'Holy Grail,' you might get 70-90%... In one episode, they show a 'rare' McFarlane figure - a 'mech' from the video game Titanfall 2. The 'value' is around $300, and I got $260 for mine - because I just listed it on eBay. In the store, I might have gotten $100, $150 for it. For example, there's the 'Star Wars POTF2' figure series from the 90s - they produced a lot of those, and some figures in this series have countless variations. It could be that the 'same' Luke, Darth Vader, or Stormtrooper costs $30 instead of $10 just because it's on a 'green' instead of a 'red' card. But if you come into the store with a collection of POTF2 figures, he'll probably still only give you $5-6 for each figure and add it up - even though there are some variations and figures that can have a difference of $10, $20, $30, etc. when sold. He himself hes so many of these figures and even tho there are variations that are worth 'more' - He will still only give you the 5-6$... If you want to know the 'value' of your collection/figures, you should know about your collection/figures yourself or do some research. lol And if you want to make money from it, you'll have to go to conventions and set up a booth yourself or go through the trouble of selling it all on eBay. However, if you are in a situation, where you need immediate compensation, then you are out of luck as you will be expected to lose 50% to 70% to a business.

I most likely cannot be a toy store owner like yourself. I'm pretty sure that you guys have spent a lot of time to check each figure was complete and offered you the number and have the person say that they will think about it or bring the missing parts all together and never come back. I just don't have the patience. I would feel like I just wasted my time that I could of done something else. But that's the reality of the business side. You need people coming in and trade in to replenish your inventory and also the person who is bringing in the toys are actually buying more than their credit.

If you are able always sell online whether its toys video games or whatever.A retailer/resale shop will screw you over royally and youll end up with a small fraction of what you could have gotten selling on Ebay, Amazon, Mercari ect.

They aren't screwing anyone over. As a business they need to make some money from each acquisition, just because something is worth $50 doesn't mean they will pay that for it. If they did they'd make no money and he out of business within months. That's how Wal-Mart operate and all retail businesses work.

I mean at the end of the day retailers need to make money so of course they will focus on getting it less than its worth as they need that profit margin. The real issue is weather you have the patience to find that right person to buy it at it's actual worth or you just want some easy quick cash.

@@Bird-Birdy-Love Your right and I've had decent experiences with retailers where they were willing to give me half of whatever it was going for online and I always believed that was fair.Ive had bad experiences though where whoever I was dealing with was only offering 20%-25% or less and those are the transactions I really regret.Thankfully I've been a trusted seller with a perfect rating online over the past 3 years.Even though there's not many things left I want to get rid of whenever I acquire something to sell I can patiently and easily deal directly with the buyer and do well even at a competitive price.

This was painful to watch. As soon as they said that they didn't know the sword was stored there on Vector Prime and that they were learning I would've walked out. Then again when they didn't know where Commetor was on Armada Jetfire. Couldn't tell Jetfire from Cybertron Optimus from Energon Optimus from any version of Ultra Magnus. Did they even check Menasor's chest for Heavyload? They at least knew enough to check Tidal Wave's arm for Ramjet. You'd need more than ten to fifteen minutes to give a proper evaluation. And to go to someone who at least knows more than these people did. I get that I know more as Transformers is my thing but I can price pretty much anything from any toy line out more accurately than that. Cybertron Optimus Prime even incomplete can sell for around the $120 range. So no, these figures are not "trash" like people in the comments are saying. Vector Prime with sword, missile and Safeguard is around $70. Energon Tidal Wave is around $90 even without Ramjet or the missiles. Cybertron Menasor without Heavy Load is around $80 as it's the big floppy things on his back that are the pieces mainly missing but NEEDED for the alt mode since Heavy Load is almost always in his chest. So that's the $350 before going into Cybertron Defense Red Alert & Hot Shot, Cybertron Megatron, Armada Jetfire, Energon Optimus, 2007 Optimus and whatever else they had in there. Given overhead and whatnot, a better offer would've been around $550ish just based on the Transformers. I spy Universe Fireflight, Alternators Optimus, Alternators Shockblast, Alternators Grimlock, Energon Slugslinger, Classics Cliffjumper, Classics Astrotrain, several different Animated Megatrons it looks like, Cybertron Undermine, Energon Ironhide, Energon Divebomb, Titanium Optimal Optimus, Titanium WWI Optimus, Classics Starscream, General Grievous and more. Did you even go through the entire box to see if the missing pieces were on the bottom or check that baggie? Nevermind, it should've been more around $700ish for trade in value just based on what I see for the Transformers only. And why are you so fixated on the Cyber Keys? There's only a small handful of them that actually have any value. The Matrix key from Optimus, the special Decepticon key from Megatron and Galvatron, the key from Vector Prime and maybe the four gold bordered Planet Keys from Metroplex, Override, Evac and Scourge (who all don't seem to be there anyway). Also the Botcon and SDCC exclusive keys but there's no need to worry about those either. Anyone calling the Unicron trilogy era figures trash knows nothing about Transformers. The people who grew up with those series are the ones now going back and collecting so prices have gone up quite a bit. It's the G1 figures that have gone down unless they're Headmaster, Powermaster or Targetmaster units or a select few other figures. Those will always have high value. The rest keep going down due to constant reissues every few years that ALWAYS go on clearance and the near endless stream of knockoffs. There's a whole new series of KOs right now that are easy to get complete with KO boxes and inserts.

You aren't wrong, and as you pointed out, your bag is the Transformers angle, and it is hard to watch someone fumble through and borderline insult when they seem to have a limited knowledge. But complete is complete. If you sell me something described as complete, I want all my keys, bibs, and bobs.

Kinda weird (and shady) he was like oh these aren’t going to be worth much I can tell ya that before he even looked at them ……and making little comments like “transformers don’t go for as much as people think” laying the groundwork ……I’ve seen this guy do quite a few questionable and dishonest things on this show ….I’m glad the guy with the gi joes was smart enough to walk away from that lowball offer he gave him

It's pretty wild to think that back when Cybertron had ended only like a year or two earlier, I was able to snag the Japanese versions of Prime, Wing Saber and Leobreaker for like $100. But yeah, the toys of that era are far from "trash". If anything, in some ways they were better than what we have now! @@AgtWashingtub Also this. If something is advertised as complete, it _should_ be complete. The Hasbro Cyber Keys are actually a bit worse since they have unique codes on them which makes them specific for each figure!

That guy with the case of G.I Joes ARAH got flat out robbed! An average Joe on eBay with no weapons sells for $15 ea. Not to mention the fact that a lot of those he had were V1 figures that avg $40-$60(i.e Scarlett, Tomax, Zamot, Barbecue...etc...etc..) Yeah, so $200 for that case is highway robbery. Toy Federation re-sold those for over $1500 easily. C'mon guys, a lil bit of integrity goes a long way. You saw that guy coming a mile away.Yo Joe!

Remember: toy stores are like comic stores. The item you bring in, even a character that’s really popular, might sit on their shelf for months or years. Typically, if a good condition item is supposedly selling for $100, you might get $30 for them to take it off your hands. Open toys are not an investment. Also, with newer toys, it’s hard to know what will be really valuable down the line. So, if you have money to waste on this, then buy that G1 Megatron in the box for several hundred. Don’t buy 50 new Transformers today and hope for something in 30 years.
@jjcc2192
@jjcc2192 4 месяца назад
Stores offering $30 for a $100 item is why ebay and FB marketplace are taking over and physical stores are struggling/closing. Which I am all for. Physical stores had a monopoly for the longest time, offering pennies to people who had no other way to sell. Now the stores have to adapt or get run out of town.

Cool seeing some Transformers Unicron Trilogy era stuff again (Armada, Energon, Cybertron) Their Really solid Transformers toys, a golden era for engineering and value. Energon Tidal wave even without the missiles and ramjet is still pretty valuable. been going through my stuff lately from when I moved and it was a terrible mistake to try and seperate parts from the transformers figures. They ended up separated across several boxes. I know I just put all the cyber keys in one bag somewhere. Very few figures would just hang on to the key. Would be nice if they all had a compartment for it.
