@@Chase9.0 Don Figueroa is an artist who worked for a lot of early IDW and Dreamwave comics. He got into some controversy around 2010 or so when Hasbro and IDW started stealing his designs without permission, most notable being the stealth bomber Megatron design. And so he kinda left the franchise for like over a decade or so. To this day, some of his designs are still taken without his consent.
If you want a bit more range of movement with the alternate head with the mask on, shift the neck up and back using that double hinge onto the window piece. That way he can look down a bit.
12:54 So, you find a breach, probe it, the sphere comes through, 600 feet above London, BAM! It leaves a hole in the fabric of reality. And that hole, you think: "Should we leave it alone, should we back off, should we play it safe?" NAH, you think: "Let's make it BIGGER!"
I actually have the nuclear blast ver. It had some terrible qc. All the ratchets were super fragile and broke immediately. Hope yours doesn't have any problems.
The other day, I was chatting to a GI Joe fan who was also a casual transformer collector at my local shop. I asked him his opinion on the GI Joe cross-over, he said it's just terribly designed and doesn't rock any interest from him. I do feel like certain fans give official product too much benefit of the doubt, whenever something doesn't quite work, they would pull out the "you are not the target customer" card and claim there are certain crowd who is into it even thought they aren't part of that crowd.
Well, Hasbro wouldn't bother making them if they didn't sell to someone. Fans generally don't seem to recognise that these crossover toys had to maintain the same functionality as the old Joe toys, which naturally means compromises. Like why don't the arms and legs go inside? They need to maintain the driver or troop compartment. Why bother making them Joe figure scale if they can't be used with 3'3/4 inch figures? A popular thread a while back was comparing HISS Megatron negatively to Earth Wars Soundwave, who turned into the obscure DTC HISS from 2005. That video game design, naturally cheats (see how much trouble the WFC Fall of Cybertron designs are as toys) and places the legs where both the troop compartment and rotating turret would be.
@@ffnbbq Well, people generally don't seem to recognize that when two going into one doesn't quite work, it's still called bad design. You are the kind of guy I'm referring to, that it's not hard to just admit sth is a bad toy. If it really sells as you claimed, it wouldn't be on discount and people still don't want them even then. Here's the comment from the person I talked to: why not just buy a regular hiss tank and put a megatron right next to it?
man for how influential tfc was back in the early days of third party they get almost no flowers now which is kinda sad because some of their stuff still holds up their devastator still looks good nowadays despite being over a decade old at this point the liokaiser they did is pretty sweet (at least the reissue with the joint fixes is) and i've heard great things about that piranacon set they deserve credit
Too bad they couldn't've done the 'H.I.S.S. Megatron' thing and make his robot mode resemble Optimus Prime in the coloration, while having the vehicle mode look like the G.I.JOE model, but I can kinda see why they didn't. Basically the entire robot mode is visible in the vehicle, so they couldn't have different schemes going. It would've been nice, though. **EDIT** Forgot to add that yes, they _do_ have an 'Optimus Prime' colored one, but it doesn't come with this big-ass missile. That, and it just looks weird having the entire thing be 'Optimus colored'. Like it isn't part of that universe. I dunno, I might grab either this one or the regular camo one and do some painting. Frankly, I'm still hoping for an official crossover version.
The GI Joe transformers suffer way too much from not integrating the vehicle into the robot. They need to ditch the forced G1 blocky-ness and do it this way.
They do it that way in part to maintain the functionality of the original Joe vehicle. If they designed them like regular Transformers, then they wouldn't bother making them figure scale.
For some reason the first thing that comes to mind when seeing this figure is that it should be a G.I. Joe crossover Onslaught and the central part of an insane looking Bruticus.
This thing never ceases to remind of that old Xovergen Grand Patriot. I never owned one but the regular Prime deco and the green version looked awesome to me. Now, the TFC one certainly upstages it, but it’s a fun reminder to me. Great review by the way!
Love to see a 3rd party without a crazy/convoluted transformation scheme. Missile truck reminds me of Cybertron Defense Red Alert. Used to have the original 2007 movie Starscream, but unfortunately ended up as garage sale fodder during my last purge. Kinda wish I hadn't as I still have the ROTF voyager, and Leader, and now the SS which is definitely an improvement, but the original was still a lot of fun despite inaccuracy.
I've seen this design so many times. It's one of the three figures that have made me really consider buying transformers again. I really can't be a LEGO fan and buy other stuff.
Just broke down and ordered the guy. Dammit, man, my wallet is going to kill me for this. xD Oh well, I needed something to fill the 'G.I.Joe Crossover' spot for Optimus Prime, and he _is_ really kickass. So money well spent. He should get here between half-a-month and two months from now. Which'll be roughly the time my other two tf's from TFSource ship out (Titan class Tidalwave and Commander class Magmatron), so July/August is looking to be a good month! **EDIT** Just got my Arctic Camo Rolling Thunder Optimus Prime (S.T.COMMANDER STC-01P ICE WOLF) today!!!! And *_man_* is this thing fucking awesome. I haven't transformed it yet, just got it out of the foam and got the pieces added to it in order for the missile to attach. I'm leaving it like that for a bit to display it, but I'll be transforming it shortly.
*points at thesign saying "Official GI Joe Transformers toys are designed to retain the Joe figure-scale functionality of the original Joe vehicles (or at least as much as they can), which leads to compromises. That Earth Wars HISS Megatron design people pointed to last year would have never worked with this requirement."*
Was going to make this a reply to an an earlier post, or just edit the post itself, but I figured this deserved its own thing. That piece that you said is supposed to go on the back? It does, up on his upper back, over what would be his shoulder blades. But if you put it on, you won't be able to attach the giant X to his back. It's a left-over from the original Prime-colored version, it's where you attach Prime's missiles. And yes, the two missiles inside the giant one don't attach anywhere as they, too, are a hold-over from another design (the Jungle Camo version), so there's nothing you can do with them on this guy. They don't attach to that 'backpack piece' I mentioned before, either, as that was designed for the ones that came with the Prime-colored version. So you're just left with a backpack piece and two large missiles, that come apart to reveal four smaller missiles, all of which are completely useless in either mode (you can't use them in the truck mode, the base robot mode or the beefed-up version). You _can,_ however, attach two of the small missiles to the backpack piece, though they look weird (you have to attach them 'upside down', so the hollow area is facing up). So that's something, I suppose.
You are correct that the missiles will no longer attach to his arms. Early models had four ladders that had a square outward peg, but have since been replaced with the four hydraulic stabilizers which contain no peg. However, you should be able to slide the larger missiles onto the upper outside of his shoulder pads. You will be able to angle elevation, and breadth from that location. And you can attach the smaller missiles onto the outside of the larger ones. (That's how I have mine displayed)
This is probably super cool, but my introduction to it was a massive load of videos of this toy again and again in just different repaints and I just got super sick of it, I'd probably like it a lot if I had it, but I've seen too much of this figure in the span of half an hour...
I'm not a huge fan of how little the rocket does. I would've expected it to house a bunch of weapons or something, but just a rocket? Kind of a let down
I have the green missile carrier one and the Scourge looking one with the wings. I didn't really *need* to watch your video for a figure good enough to make me buy it twice, but I did anyways cuz you're funny and I wanted to hear your take on it anyways!
This video convinced me to get this so I’m buying it tomorrow but I’m kinda nervous since it’s gonna be my first third party fig I’ll purchased I’m gonna be pissed if it’s plagued with qc issues but ooouggh it looks so good
Hey toy guy great review...mine is coming in soon , could you find out whether tfsafari would get the megatron in this style again its sold out currently.
