I mean it gives her something to talk about. She doesn’t have to wonder what people want to know about...we just tell her what we r interested in. I’m sure it helps youtubers out as well.
Rahel That really depends on the group. Tina said in the group she was in, they were constantly fighting. But some groups are very touchy and caring with other like Twice. She could mention groups that aren’t friends but she might get attacked in the comments so I don’t know if she would do that.
@@yvesfromloona1647 where did she said about this? I've always heard about how good personalities Twice have, staffs talked about how kind they're, people who worked with them said good things about them and said how great personalities they have, even Sakura talked about how hard working and friendly they're and a lot idols votes for them as idols that they wanted to be friends with
@NCT stands for Neo Crackhead Technology Tina said she didn't like MCountdown because all the rookie groups shared one room together. Including the staff.
Yes to camera work! It's something I've thought about a lot. I've always wondered if idols knew beforehand when which cameras would be on, which you just confirmed! Because they are already looking at it before it changes.
nikaidou yes, i've Worked with two cameras for a program and yes you have to change when the red Light appears. That’s how you know witch camera is focus on you.
What's your best and worse fan interactions? How do idols in general feel about fans meeting them in the street, hotel, airport and asking for a picture or starting conversations? Where is the line drawn at fan vs obsessive?
I actually don’t mind if groups mime or sing along to pre-recorded tracks! I feel like the performance is just as much about the dancing as well and it must be so difficult to do both well!
i agree lol. like its nearly impossiblke to control your voice while your chest and neck is bouncing around doing hard choreography. i would rather enjoy the performance and not have it ruined by bumpy sounding vocals, anyway if they wanna sing it live though, i think thats great too i mean its hard so props to them.
@@soobeanie Do stylist have favouritism among Idols within the same group? Like do they intentionally give certain members more preference for better clothes?
What you first talked about (lip syncing) and the percentages and I used to wonder for example during performances of idol groups with singers and rappers how the rappers sounded completely live beacuse you can hear the hard breathing and stuff yet the vocals sounded so clear sometimes even after dancing and jumping around. Now it all makes so much sense! Honestly it’s pretty smart!
this is a weird question that i've been having since forever lmao.. do idols start hating their songs after practicing them so much? i'd grow tired of hearing the same thing over and over, and having to practice it many times each time they go to a music program
probably with most idols i mean most of them have little to no input on their songs so i would guess so probs not as much as groups that have input on their songs but even then they probs get annoyed after awhile
Heema Heema apparently many celebrities exchange phone numbers through inkigayo sandwiches! They slip their phone numbers into the sandwich and give it to a celebrity they have good feelings for 😂 (this is according to seungri btw)
@Mitchell Bruce Sioni depends. If the artist or the trainee is underage, she/hes not allowed to practice or attend any music shows award, until 10pm. Its part of the law,. (In korea) They should be at home/dorm or wherever they stay at, at 10pm. To prevent Underage teens/kids from being Overworked.
@@rei__tv But imagine sitting there and having to force yourself to enjoy certain songs so you don't start fan wars and scandal's. It would be so boring lol
As a musician and RU-vidr who creates extremely candid/unedited videos, I can totally understand why musicians (and especially Kpop idols) use pre-recorded vocals since they're constantly dancing and panting. However, as someone who comes from a pop punk background, live music isn't always supposed to be perfect. Personally, I'd much rather seeing performers in their raw skin even though it's not "perfect" since it showcases their talent in that magical live moment. But yah thanks for giving us insights into this! I instinctively could hear the differences in the level of pre recorded vocals between members but I wasn't aware there was actual percentages.
Exactly. I go to local pubs/showboxes/etc., and there's a big difference. The sad thing is that people that just watch music through a screen don't always know when to recognize if something is completely live. There are a few Korean music shows that do completely live vocals (SMA, KMA, etc.). Sad thing is, when people watch those performances, they say the idols "sound tired." No, wrong. They sound live. That's what actual live vocals sound like. And the fact that they sound so good with hard choreo is even more amazing. I find it funny that they diss the performances that are actually the most amazing.
100% agree with you! I'll definitely have to check out those musicians you mentioned, but I feel the exact same as you. The "tired" comment always gets to me... Singing (not to mention in front of an audience) is so physically draining and there are so many factors which affect a musicians performance on the day
@@PhoenixDilemmaProductions I think the one that comes to mind for my for BTS is their performance at the JBTV Radio Station in Chicago. This stage is a legendary stage. ALL the big names from Prince to Radiohead to Pink Floyd, etc. have played this stage. You can see that it's designed for rock bands (with the raised platform in the back). This radio station requires 100% live vocals. BTS not only had to sing 100% live, but they also had to adjust their choreo to fit a stage designed for rock bands. (They actually show them meeting in the hotel room during their tour and trying to fix the choreo in the hotel room to be in such a small space. You can also see them worrying about not being able to provide a good performance because the stage is so small.) Fire at JBTV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QoEimQg8bno.html Save Me at JBTV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G44ocpzxYNE.html I think the reason I like this performance so much is that you can see that they have worked their way to the top because they take on challenges instead of avoiding them and adapt. Coming from a small, bankrupt company, they often didn't have the best conditions and would have to take what they could get. For this reason, they made sure they were strong performers no matter the situation. I think this stage shows that (as well as a lot of the other US stages that use minimal camera work and nearly no support vocals).
I had a horrible experience when I went to Music Bank. I've done them all except Arirang and Show Champion, but Music Bank, my ass had to get there as a fan at 6AM. (That was the earliest I could get there because of the subway system from my place). Take our photo in front of the sign for the fan club to text to them. We waited ALL DAY to be brought into the pre-recording. It kept getting delayed. It got all the way down to the wire and they ran out of the time, so only the top tier fans got to go into the recording and the rest had to stay. And then I found out that Music Bank doesn't allow entry unless you have a ticket beforehand (compared to Inki and MuCore who give the rest of their tickets to fans outside). I was pissed. 1. No sleep. Waiting all day. 2. Did not to go into the show. So I called my Korean friend and asked him to give me the sappiest text message about how I flew all the way to Korea (not true) to go to Music Bank (lol) blah blah blah. I miraculously found the producer (shockingly) who was letting ticket holders in (because he had to get specific family in). I showed up him my phone with my sappy message and he felt it and he said, "It's actually a light day today, so we can squeeze you in." And guess what, I got in! It was a rough day though honestly lol, but it actually paid off. I never wanted to do it again though. My experiences at Inkigayo and Music Core were so much better. M! Countdown was alright (shrugs)
Oh so you dont generally need a ticket to the shows? At what time should you in that case go there to wait outside? Im interested in going next time i go to Korea
@@eatmycookies1493 It's best to do the lottery for MuCore and Inkigayo and hope for the best. That's done online. Things have changed since I've done it but back then, it was best to go for a smaller artist. Buy their album and stand in the respective artists' line. The show gives tickets to like the Top 20% or whatever of that artist's line to get into the show.

I want a video about hair! how much do idols get a say in their hairstyles, why dont stylists stop even tho the idols hair is getting so damaged, why dont they use less damaging stuff, and what ESPECIALLY interests me, as idols have to change up their style so often, sometimes someone will get bangs, but what if for the next comeback it is decided that they dont want that idol with bangs anymore? you cant magically grow them out. bangs are a long term decision xD
@@louisaislife2285 these people are idols...ppl idolise them... If a young gay or bi person is struggling to deal with their sexuality it can be really inspiring and reassuring to see how their idols deal with theirs
Spill the tea on how y'all be getting each other's numbers lmao. Can you actually tell who's flirting with who just by how they interact backstage? Plus I've always been curious about the camera work thing, so if possible I'd like to see you talking about it.
Oh my god this is all so interesting! I would love a video about camera work, since sometimes you get the "this cameraman is drunk" feeling. Does the company have a say about it according to the concept (or what they imagined) or is totally up to the music show after the choreography rehearsals? If it is all already decided before, do the idols get like a "plan" to the camera positions or it's learned there? Also i know you already mentioned in a couple videos, but what is like to be in the waiting rooms? What are you allowed to do while waiting (if there are any restrictions)? Thank you for theses videos, they are great 💜 You're so articulated when explaining things especially considering that this video has barely any cuts during the explanations
@@soobeanie uhh if you already had a plan on what to talk about you can just stick to it and I'm sure it will be great. I'm sorry if I sounded too demanding lol Love your videos, thank you for doing this. Remember to always acknowledge your efforts and be healthy K bye
K-pop camera people are wild. I like oldies stuff, as you can see from my avatar, with their single POV 4:3 aspect ratio black and white stuff. Then my sibling got me into K-pop videos... with all those flashing and spinning cameras. I love K-pop songs, but. The headache from watching MVs is real xD
Whoa! This is so interesting. Thanks for sharing the “secrets”. I’ve got a question about the percentage of pre recorded vocals. Is 0% even an option? Is the decision taken mostly by the company, artist, music show or maybe a combo?
Really interesting info about the pre-recordings! I didn't know they fine-tuned it to that extent, for each individual member on a day by day basis. My opinion on it is that it's perfectly fine to do lip-syncing and pre-recordings if it's important for the singers. Screw "live singing" pride. For example, if singing that day will damage their throat or they're sick, I don't think it's good to power through it because it's really horrible for throat health, it's just not worth it long-term. I think a lot of people have a fundamental misunderstanding about how singing works, too--it's almost all about breathing! There's not some innate magical "singing gene" that makes people good at singing no matter the circumstances. So if you're doing an aerobic choreography that affects your breath (basically all K-pop choreo), it's unrealistic to expect human beings with normal human limits to perform challenging vocal runs, high notes, heck even regular notes, with the same smoothness they normally could. There are some people who can do it anyway, but they're rather outliers. Of course, if a group did 100% lip-syncing every single time, that would be weird. But I don't know any groups that do that. I knew music shows took a long time, but I can't believe Music Bank makes the performers wait all morning, all day, and all night just to do a performance--if Inkigayo can get people in and out within 5 hours, they should be able to get *somewhat* close to that, even if there's an difference in manpower or resources... that's gotta be costing every person in that building big bucks, to pay people to sit around on standby. Hard to take a nap when you're on call. :/ No wonder they often tape shows while idols are at music shows though, lol. I'm really curious about the cameras, and I would love to see another video talking about it.
YES I have questions, latching onto the exchanging numbers thing - Is it common for idols/artists to exchange numbers with each other? Can the company control who you go out to meet with (especially if it's another artist)? Are friendships encouraged or discouraged between companies? If you have friends outside the company, is it hard to get close, because there are certain things you can and can't say? Do the schedules make these kinds of friendships difficult to maintain, and how is that generally dealt with? If you're in an idol group, and you have just ordinary school friends, are you allowed to bring them to the dorm or do the managers need to be updated? Obviously, in big companies, there are lots of public close bonds between groups - are there many instances where certain groups or people do have close bonds, but they have to keep it quiet/no one pays attention to it? K whew sorry that was a bit of a word vomit. But your videos are super informative, especially when wanting to research what idol life is like personally - sources like your videos are so hard to come by that haven't been censored or measured etc. Thank you so much!
Please I have a question, is there any drama between groups or members in the backstage of these programs? Spill the tea girl PS I love your videos, so much info I always wondered about but never even question before
I don’t know about other groups but Super Junior literally talked too much times in national television about their fights in the backstage of music programs, the most famous probably would be when they fight during mr simple era in the inkigayo backstage (you can find the story if you search choding junior in youtube) and the incheon battle between Leeteuk and Heechul 😂
I went to music show once and that was surprising! It was just crazy on how they switching from live performance to pre-recorded. I was on afternoon section where they actually live on tv real time. some groups were just performed only half of the song and then the next group came on stage and get ready for their own stages.
how do groups go to shows like inkigayo like are they invited, is the company asking the show to be in it ? also is it the company who pays for being on the show or does the show pays the idols/company?
When you explained how certain members got a different percent of pre recorded vocals and certain parts become louder- it literally explains all my conspiracy. When I watch the shows, I always thought you could hear the main vocal better and for some reason the sub vocals sounded very “studio”
thank you for all your videos! i would like to request a video about idols’ relationship to fans. like what do idols think about just facing a screaming mass wherever they go, is it exciting or just annoying? what do idols appreciate most about their fans (actions, things they say etc)? in what situations are idols most comfortable with their fans, is it when fans are cheering for a performance, while being close & talking during a fansign, while doing a live stream or while reading comments written on your videos? are there certain things that idols like & dislike about their fans (once again, actions, things they say etc)? i also sometimes feel like idols constantly saying how much they love the fans might be a bit exaggerated, especially when it comes from an artist whose fans usually are quite annoying even to the artist themself. can idols really love their fans that much when they constantly get mobbed, their privacy is violated, fans are being possessive etc...? what do idols ACTUALLY think about their fans? i think this would be a very interesting topic to hear more about, thanks in advance!💗
I really think this depends on each individual. Some people love attention, some prefer more privacy or being watched from afar. I think they love and appreciate their fans but are really good at fan service. Lol
Trisha Williams yes i think that it depends a lot on the person too! i was just thinking if there’s some general idea among idols that fans don’t really know about. i thought it’d be an interesting topic to know more about :’)
i remember when i watched sechskies on infinite challenge i think it was (was their guerrilla concert episode), and they said their fans and another fandom got into a fist fight outside one of these places...obviously back in the 90s. would say its mostly verbal fights and bit of shoving these days between fandoms.
my problem with music bank is the time spent waiting for the broadcast station to get its shit together is time that could be scheduled for a variety show appearance or photoshoot or something to improve the artist's/company's income (radio and fansign events aren't that lucrative). i don't think i've ever heard anyone from KBS explain why music bank takes so damned long. it's inefficient to take all day for something other broadcast stations can do in a few hours. that's KBS just taking itself way too seriously, and it's not like the result is anything special. mubank's finished product isn't noticeably better than any other music show.
I’d like to know how it goes with White-Washing by idols (or like in general in asia)? - - - because i see alot of pre-debute vs debute photos and there skins are most of he time a totaly different colour and i hope u can also answer why it is so populair/ important to be a lighter skin color in asia? PS: I love your vids!!
Basically it means you're rich because you're not a farmer who has to work everyday under the sun. And it's rare to be super white skinned, and rareness makes beauty standards
Do you get paid on music programs or is it only for promotional reasons? If you don’t get paid then how do lesser known idols make money if they promote all the time and barely have any cfs, tv shows, etc?
This video was so good. I definitely want to know more about how idols interact off camera. Idk if youve ever mentioned this, but I saw you on an episode of Let's Go Dream Team (I love that show and dead at the part when you pulled one of those foam peanuts or whatever it was out from your shirt XD). It would be cool to know how filming that show went. Awesome job coming up with new things to talk about!
Hey maybe you can do a video about in-ear.. like how it works.. how it helps the artist.. and why is it so important to artist.. basically just everything u need to know bout in-ears on music show
Bruh performing on music shows is really hard actually...With how people expect idols to sing live and perfectly, if you're an idol, you have to sing, dance in those outfits, with jewelries hanging on you, with lots of makeup on your face and your hair done, manage to not look crappy and weird cause cameras are filming you AND also be careful about which camera you have to look at, not to mention that the projectors in those studios(?) make the stage super hot...all of these after hours of waiting in those rooms, while having woke up in early morning, probably not eaten enough food...That's CRAZY cause I feel so frustrated when I do the least amount of make up and have my hair loosen for parties and stuff after an hour, I feel like wanting to take EVERYTHING of of me asap, idols have to do that for 2 to 4 weeks, and atleast 3 days each week... I kind of understand why idols don't do live singing and people who expect them to do it well are being so selfish, they have to be on their shoes to know how hard it is and they write all of those hateful comments lying on their bed lol
The percentages you talked about during music shows makes a lot of sense. When I watch live performances on RU-vid I could never really tell if the idols were lip syncing or not (even if people said they’re weren’t in the comments, I just couldn’t confidently believe in it) but when I went to my first concert it was obvious that they were actually singing. BUT when I watch the recording I took that day, even though I know that they were singing, I feel like I still can’t be certain. So I guess that’s because of the percentages...
TBH I am not a fan of pre-corded vocals in kpop industry. Lip sync? I mean, I get it. I have been a kpop fan for over 10 years and I gotta say music shows were so different before: there were only either live or lip sync. Artists are exhausted and companies want to maintain quality. Thanks to technology, companies and music shows have got so much smarter now and have come up with the idea of pre-recorded vocals. The reasons behind this is manifold: 1) idols have to prepare for so many music shows for one comeback and tbh they are so exhausted because of the tight schedule and they overuse their vocal cord. This is just a very unhealthy working culture. 2) Agencies KNOW that not all artists are good at singing and also that fans do MR removed videos. It is like OH WHY DON'T WE FOOL THEM BY MAKING EVEN MORE MISLEADING AND DISGUISING VOCALS??! I think this is a disrespect to the fans as well as the artists. 3) K-pop now has got so hyped up with badass choreography now partly because of RU-vid and dance cover culture which is GREAT but vocals have been so overlooked and undermined nowadays. I feel sad about that because to me performance is not just about dancing (I am a trained performer too so I dance and sing as well.) As audience, I do not expect my idols to sing JUST LIKE CD on live but I rather appreciate their energy, stability and stage presence, which cannot be replaced by pre-recorded vocals.
This is a very helpful video! I made notes out of it 🙏 And I wanna know about how music shows allocate waiting rooms? I did hear that it depends on the popularity and how new the groups are. And how music shows backstage footage is filmed (quizzes or games that shows comduct)? and also how Idol culture works that everyone follows example hoobae (후배) greeting sunbae (선배), distributing albums etc.?
The thing I love about 2NE1 and Big Bang is that I could almost always hear their live vocals. I hate artists/groups that I can't hear their voices over the playback, and I don't mean performances in which the sound systems are wonky, but that every performance was like that. I don't mind playback and I get that they're dancing, but I prefer clear distinction of voice from playback. Otherwise I tend to spend the whole time trying to determine if/when they're actually singing, plus it's not as special or interesting to me.
can you talk about writing songs? like who writes them and how much the idols contribute, the structures of songs, line distribution, etc. this always seemed interesting to me.
@soobinie yesss pls let us know how much idols have a say in song writing and freedom in creation and royalties etc!! I know groups like bts, btob, day6 etc have freedom to song write whereas some groups just sing whatever they're given?? Why is that so?
It is kinda obvious that some idol's lip sync, don't know why some says that their voice gets tired when they lip sync most of the times. Some singers sing live, dance powerfully, risking their own lives for the performance and they are still good to go. Beyonce sings live and perform live. Some of you will say she is experienced person, but idols spend their life on training for them to lip sync?
People today are spoiled. When I was growing up in the 70s, EVERYBODY lipsynched. The only exceptions were shows like The Grammys or acts like Aretha Franklin, who would go on "Soul Train" and sing live just to flex. You almost never heard an act live unless it was at a concert, never on TV, until late night shows like "Midnight Special" or "Saturday Night Live". My point is that if a group, that is dancing their ass off, wants to use some pre-recording to round out their live performance on a TV show or even in concert, that's fine with me.
I just discovered your channel and I'm totally in love with your content. I'm subscribing now. I've watched other kpop insider videos mostly those audition ones but the way you explain everything in detail like here is so different. You spill alot of tea haha 🍵 I wished I've known about you sooner. It's sad that I've been into kpop for so long but I didn't heard of your previous group before
You can easily recognize those who are lip syncing their movement specially when they are dancing is not jiving with their vocals cause it is hard to sing while dancing. Dancing alone you run out of your breath what more if you do both. And you will see idols still manage to smile while doing such things. It is pretty obvious that they are just lip-syncing.
How do these in-ears work? Do you hear just your voice or do you hear your other members' voices too? Im even more confused since you said you could hear the other group performing and their vocals. Are you only hearing one member or the whole group? Im always curious about the in-ears.
She talked about it before and said it depends on the members position, since main vocals and rappers need to be heard more clearly they sometimes are given hand mics for better quality.
🙏Thanks for making such a great and helpful vid! Can you make a video about those inkigayo sandwiches... I've got a hunch on baekhyun sending chanyeol something.... 😉😂❤️
