Everything Everywhere All at Once movie reaction is here! First time watching and we have to say we were definitely not expecting such an amazing film. Michelle Yeoh absolutely killed every scene in this film. Protect Ke Huey Quan at all costs his scenes towards the end had us crying non stop. And Stephanie Hsu stole the show in some of her iconic scenes. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a MASTERPIECE. A must watch if you're a fan of sci-fi and definitely a must watch if you thought Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness was a let down. This is the MULTIVERSAL FILM we deserved.

You weren't expecting an oscar winning movie to be amazing?
@OfficialMediaKnights
@OfficialMediaKnights Год назад
You know that's an excellent point, and our answer may be an unpopular opinion. There have been a lot of times where we didn't agree with the Oscars/the Academy - so many times we felt that talent was ignored, that certain genres have been ignored. So we don't really use 'Oscar winning' as a metric to determine if a movie is good or not. Opinions are all subjective, and there have been a lot of times a win for a movie didn't resonate with us so. We had heard incredible things about this movie, so whilst we did expect it to be good, we didn't expect it to be THIS amazing and funny AND emotional. Hope that clarifies things!

Yess!! There are so many themes in this film, and so many resonated with us. It hit us in the feels, especially how one can fight with kindness, that whilst life is crazy and likely pointless, we create the meaning by cherishing those around us and the oddities of life. Such a stunning film...

I love one of the primary metaphors of this movie: In order to grow as a person (“gain new powers”), you have to step out of your comfort zone (“do weird shit”)… ie “the only way to be a new person is to actually *do* things the old you didn’t do.”
@MrPeteTheGamer

I will continue to shout from the rooftops how amazing this movie is to anyone who will listen. I don't care if sounds like hyperbole, but this movie literally cured my depression. I've always been a bit of a nihlist who believed that nothing we did matters. I was Jobu without the cool powers. I believed that, eventually, the human race will end, the sun will explode, the universe will collapse in on itself, etc... so why bother? What is the point of life and living, if nothing we do matters. This movie taught me a different way to view that same nihilism: if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do. We can profoundly effect the world we live in just by being kind. Whether you believe in "religion" or "god" or "a higher power" or just that we are a giant coincidence created by billions of things going EXACTLY right to create a living being that can perceive the universe which created it. None of that matters. What matters is what we do with the time that we're here. That's all. Nothing else. It doesn't matter if our efforts are appreciated, or even noticed, because we control how we perceive the universe in which we live! This movie is a modern miracle that spoke to my soul, and no matter how many times I watch it, I'm exhausted from crying at the end. This movie is..... EVERYTHING. And to top everything off, they win seven of the eleven Oscars they were nominated for! I don't think I've ever actually cheered aloud at an award announcement, but I sure as heck did for this movie! Louder and louder each time they won and literally stood up and danced for the Best Picture! Thank you for sharing YOUR reaction to this movie with the world.

Your comment made me cry 😭❤ I'm not necessarily a nihilist but I've gone through many periods of "nothing matters so why bother" and this film resonated so hard with me. Whether or not we ascend to a higher plane of consciousness after we die or cease to exist, life is beautiful and worth living. We need to cherish what we have while we have it, because it can be gone in a blink. I've seen people misinterpret Evelyn and Joy's relationship as toxic or dysfunctional. It might not be perfect, but Evelyn still tries. She learns to do better, to TRY, and that's all we can do.

I feel the absolute same way. I still have chronic depression of course but EEAAO has helped me an insane amount. It's true that there might not be a reason for all of us existing. But yeah, all that matters is what we do. It's being happy, enjoying life for all it is. It's being nice to others.

Watching reactions to this movie is the closest I can get to seeing it for the first time again. I just wish that Stephanie Hsu had won the Oscar. This movie had me in tears. So touching. It's almost like you need the craziness and absurdity to disarm you just enough to hear the message. Evelyn zoning out at the end represents the main theme of that final battle: She can choose to be anything, anywhere, but instead she decides to be with her family. She will always want to be there with them. Also serves to demonstrate that she does care about what Deirdre has to say this time. Previously she pretended to be listening “yes I’m listening”, now she apologizes for not paying attention and wants her to repeat herself.

37:19 "you're not unlovable", deirdre's whole life has been about struggling with self worth. her divorce, her noticable taking it hard by evelyn's sudden disgust and rejection. people have wrote in lots of EEAAO reaction videos' comment section about how eveline's jumping pad was professing love for deirdre. bcoz that's deemed statistical improbability in the movie. yikes. then i googled the name "deirdre", and wouldn't you know, it's an irish-gaelic name, meaning "broken heart" or "sorrow"... i couldn't help but gone into multiple "what the f**k" convulsions, that's some out of this world writing prowess
@OfficialMediaKnights

Oh. My. Goodness... WOW!!! That is attention to detail, man... It adds such depth to her character, which is wonderful because otherwise she would have been a caricature. But instead you can tell these writers poured so much love and respect into each character and it resonates in every scene.

I love how they made seemingly random, absurd things like that mean something. Just furthering the point that the universe is chaotic and nonsensical but we still matter, our lives and feelings and thoughts matter. I actually cried when Evelin told Deidre she's not unlovable. And reparied their relationship in the hot dog hand universe.

Aside from the silly, absurd and weird scenes in this film, there is a deeper message that all of us can take home with us. The rock scene sums it all. We are so "tiny" in comparison to the whole universe. Instead of wondering about what could have been and the "what if's", we should all just enjoy the small specks of time we have on this earth. Be kind to one another.

I don't think I've ever felt more connected and seen with any other film. Also, I don't know if you caught this but I loved the symbolism of the bagel and the googly eyes: Bagel=black outside, white inside= Joy's pessimism that "nothing matters" googly eyes=white outside, black inside= Waymond's continued optimism, "nothing matters, therefore we can choose what matters to us and have little pockets of joy in life"

It only hit me hard after I gave it another shot. There appears to be a significant generation gap in EEAAO support. Some older generations were unable to follow the story line due to the eye feast of colorful fast cuttings, which is unfortunate. To me, each of those multiverses represents a different type of life, no matter how strange, glamorous, or insane it is. They are all deserving of recognition. I believe the Daniels purposefully created those absurd scenes in order to lighten the subject of depression and suicidal thoughts(black bagel). This movie is a life journey in and of itself because it makes me laugh and cry at the same time.

@vadalia3860
@vadalia3860 Год назад
I think the absurd universes, particularly the hotdog finger one, are there for two purposes. One, as you said, was to lighten the mood and bring comedy to a movie that delves into such serious and dark topics as generational trauma and mental illness. However, on the flip side, they help with the sweeter and more emotional scenes as well. Sometimes emotional scenes can feel overly sappy and saccharine if there's no contrast. Inter-cutting the absurd universes with the main reality in some of the most positive emotionally heightened scenes lets us lean into the sweetness without it feeling insincere or overly sentimental.

Forget where I read this, but I loved the interpretation of Evelyn being representation for ADHD. The multiverse is like a perfect chaotic view of what it feels like internally, at least from my perspective. Especially the very first jump where multiverse Waymond and Jamie Lee are both telling Evelyn that the conversations they’re having are important and she can’t stay in either one properly. That alone made me emotional. Then take into account the flawless writing of romantic, familial, generational, and platonic relationships… this movie is like therapy lol
@OfficialMediaKnights
@OfficialMediaKnights Год назад
Oh my goodness it's so funny you said that, we were talking about how this resonated with our ADHD, and how even the editing felt so tough because we didn't know how much to keep because everything felt important and like everything was demanding our immediate attention, all at once!! So that rings so true... There are definitely so many implications towards mental health, with Evelyn we get ADHD, generational and familial trauma, depression through the daughter as she feels lost and like nothing matters - and her mother never gives up. She pulls her back from an abyss, but it's not just Evelyn, it's everyone holding on, fighting for Joy... The feeling of having immigrant parents but growing up in a different country, and experiencing the miscommunication resulting from that cultural fragment you feel as their child. Generational trauma... Longing for acceptance as an LGBTQIA+ person from the parent... So. Many. Amazing. Layers! Gah! So fricken good!

@@OfficialMediaKnights Yes! Nothing seems like an accident in this movie down to Joy’s name. Bagel and google eyes are inverses of each other. You guys should read up on that because I love that aspect of the movie and many have written about it more eloquently than I can 😂. Basically the cure for the nihilism that Joy feels is finding and cherishing our small moments of connection. Life means nothing so we can choose what is important and so on. And I know probably close to everyone has had a stage in their relationship with a parent where being around each other seems to hurt you both. When Joy said that line I FELT IT 😭 As a daughter and a mom the movie truly tells both sides of the relationship with such empathy. Their emotional culmination has so much impact I think because Evelyn can finally express to Joy not only her willingness, but her want to connect with her daughter. Effectively showing what it takes to break the cycle of generational trauma. The movie does a fantastic job of emphasizing that it is the responsibility of the PARENT to initiate that healing for it to stick, and I love ittt. When Evelyn screams to Joy at the end of their fight scene and says, “I am your mother!” It’s not with authority but with love. It was so wonderful to see Evelyn finally stand up to her own father and immediately after standing up for her own daughter... It was absolutely gut-wrenching but also so damn beautiful and poignant. Gah. This is just masterful writing that doesn't neglect the importance of fully delved in emotion and sentimentality. Joy and Waymond are like before/after’s of me, and the movie does a good job using Evelyn to bring the audience along that pipeline of “overwhelm-depression-suicidal ideation-deciding to hope and find joy anyway *because* nothing matters” if they haven’t experienced that themselves.
@OfficialMediaKnights
@OfficialMediaKnights Год назад
Thank you for sharing that with us. I can definitely relate to what you're saying. It was also the comment where Waymond compares their 'fighting' styles and that his style may be considered naive, but is actually strategic. To fight with kindness can be strategic - and that part hit so hard. This film did a fantastic job with portraying a lot of mental health conditions, and how they feel to the person experiencing them. It's comforting to feel seen and then to be given hope.

I feel like there are a lot of movies where one identifies with characters and see oneself in them. This is more than that. This is a movie that has the possibility of changing ones perspective on life. It seems like a mad experiment in crazy film-making, but it is really a unique and profound story that 99% of people can identify with. It is an awesome display of a perfect grasp of human emotion.

Regular Waymond is the clear MVP...But Becky gets short changed. At least WaWayymond understands everything being said. Becky only understands ONE of the three languages, has no clue what is going on, but still stands by her woman without hesitation. She rivals Waymond in terms of kindness. May not yet be at the cookie Kung Fu level, but is on that path.
