I was mad for the world building and devices and used my imagination to fill in the gaps and uncringe some parts. I remember going to the theme park and taking a 3d of the boat prop so I could go back to it through that photo. I still have it. @@matthewschwer6048 Yeah, but honestly the piss drinking was the stupidest way to start the movie. You immediately alienate a big chunk of the audience (I was going to say "put a bad taste in their mouth" but that seemed too obvious). The fact that he has a hand pumped device that can turn salty urine into drinkable water means he could just as easily scooped up some sea water and done the same thing. I personally liked the movie but there were some scenes that were just stupid/unnecessary.
@matthewschwer6048
@matthewschwer6048 2 года назад
@@testfire3000 I do agree that it’s an odd scene to open up on. However, contrary to what one may think, urine and ocean water are not the same. It is very likely that if sea water were used in the machine the more delicate parts might be damaged by higher salt/silt content. The actual simple answer is a still. Cleaning would be simpler than the no doubt complex machinery needed to clean piss. Dang it me, stop trying to fix a decades old movie that, for all its faults, you already enjoy.
@testfire3000

@@matthewschwer6048 Hahaha, thank you sir for your reply! I agree, a simple still would have made the most sense. Solar powered perhaps, so it is just constantly generating a small source of water? As a Post-Apocalyptic fan, Waterworld and The Postman are two of the greatest epic PA movies ever made. If you are as well you should look into Wasteland Weekend, it's an amazing post-apocalyptic festival in Death Valley in California. Years back a group who goes to it found the scale model of the Exxon-Valdez that they made for Waterworld in a junk yard and a bunch of us kick started it so they could buy it. They cut it into pieces and every year they ship it out on 18 wheelers to the festival, set it out in the middle of the desert and it's a bar/dance stage/DJ booth that runs all night! Crazy fun.

Two things: - Will you be doing an "Everything Great about Willow" video?! Please! Please do! I know a lot of us would love it! - Heh, I get you about feeling sensitive (hypothetically, of course) about thinning hair. Me, I'm in my early 30s, and I knew it would probably happen to my hair eventually. But when I got badly sick with COVID-19 at the start of this year, it left a lot of marks on me. One of them was that it seemed to hasten hair loss by several years. I went from having a mostly normal scalp, to almost immediately having a clearly defined area of hair at the top of my head that is definitely thinner than the area around it. I didn't want this to happen this soon. Well, when that hair eventually disappears, I'll try to wear the look honourably, heh. So, don't feel bad, Lee. Hypothetically, of course. :P

As someone that works on movie sets,(security but that still counts) there is nothing worst than working on the water. Working at sea is a life-threatening hazard for the crew. No one tries to make another water world because the production would be a nightmare. Two of the most infamous movies with troubled production are this one and the Abyss.

Thank you so much for covering this; I've loved Waterworld ever since I was a kid in the 90's and it makes me so happy to see it slowly gaining a following over the years. As an adult, I especially love how it uses practical effects as much as possible instead of relying on CGI like they would today. And to do a shout-out, RU-vid channel 'The Atoll' is a great resource for Waterworld fans who want to learn more about the movie, the lore, behind-the-scenes trivia, and even the surprising amount of merchandise that was released for the film, like a squid that can hold a gun with its tentacles!

I loved this movie when I was a kid. I had no idea at the time that it was considered a "bad" movie. It just never seemed bad to me, I didn't get it. I'm going to rewatch it soon just because of this. Also, I'm proud of myself for recognizing the teaser frame in the last video immediately as it.

Gotta admit I’m a Gen Zer and I just watched Waterworld on Amazon Prime. I had a weird attachment to it because I had just gotten back from my first ever deep sea fishing trip. I normally can’t stand 90’s stuff because the graphics just bothers me. But this movie was amazing like he said the world building was amazing considering they barely ever said anything about it.

I think it's funny that you say "it's a every man for himself world, unless you are some sort of super being like [the main character]". Because in both movies, the main character was the "every man for himself" type who grew out of it, and they were fighting against a large group of people working together, and in road warrior it was specifically to save a large group of people working together.

Willow, Waterworld and Legend were movies I grew up on, so even before you mentioned Willow I was thinking of it. Those three movies remind me of each other just because of how often I watched them as a kid (I was 9 when Waterworld came out, I feel super old)

One thing I would do to change the film is have it so Dennis Hopper’s character and group are the exact same as Kevin Costner’s except they want to destroy all land to make all the world ocean instead of use up its resources.
