In this video, I put up the blocking for anything that will be getting mounted to the wall as well as got the collar ties up on the rafters! It was sketchy but I got it done! Enjoy!

I've been a carpenter for many years. I worked on multimillion dollar custom homes I also built sets for old Navy displays nationwide. You're doing a nice well thought job. Plan your work then work your plan. In regards to height, always try and have three connected points. That's the climbing rule. I started free climbing but stopped. My wife relies on me to work

The flat section on the ceiling gives you a place for a ceiling fan, if you want one.

A good rule of thumb is to stand up straight, and have someone measure from your elbow to the floor. That’s your workbench height. Also, when you’re cutting multiple pieces flip the board over every cut and put the outside edge to the fence for the next cut. It’ll keep your blocks square.

I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall and so I built a roll around work bench even though I have 2 other work benches just so I can move it around. The wheels flip up to keep it from rolling around when I need it to. We had new granite counter tops put in the kitchen and I kept the old ones for projects. I made another one just to keep my stereo on something but it doesn't move. My building is 40x65 and it's for keeping my tools and equipment in. The hardest thing i had to do was keeping the mice population down and so every once in a while I catch one. They were everywhere. We live in the country and so they can be a problem.

Oh ya, we have to put out rat poison every winter in all the machines. That’s a great way to reuse granite!

Thanks for taking us along through your garage build. Very interesting to listen to your ideas during the construction of the garage. Stay safe.

Looks good Steve and the blocking will be used more than you think ….. workbenches are all different heights, especially since people are all different heights. I always recommend to keep it around the same height as your waistline that seems to be the comfort zone for most people.
@GunpowderandFreedom
@GunpowderandFreedom 7 месяцев назад
That’s a good height! I think that’s what I did haha thank you!

@@GunpowderandFreedom Awesome…. Do you know what you are going to use for a benchtop? I would definitely recommend a hardwood such as maple.

Adding that blocking is smart. In 1987, I built a new home. With permission, I would go in after hours (before the drywall) and use scrap lumber to add blocking in areas I anticipated hanging items. (i.e. curtain rods, heavy mirrors, etc).

Gonna be a big year for my little company. Brown stone work, limestone patch repair, plaster casting trim, and obviously concrete with structural repairs. I may be 10%as busy as you guys are haha.

Work is looking great. Just a reminder , and don’t think I’m trying to tell you how to build your garage. When I was your age budget was a big concern. You mentioned a mini split in the video and I think they are the way to go. But if you go with the cassette’ in the center of the ceiling. I think it will give you a more Effectively heated and cooled space. I use one in my pole barn garage that’s 32x30 and it gives me even heat and cool with out hot and cold spots. It’s not pushing the air so far and trying to return back to the unit. Mine is a Carrier I’m sure other people make them. May you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas.

Nice work... and kudos for working thru the heights thing. I wonder, tho... you aren't going to leave those red ":shingles" up are you? When I did the side of my house years ago I had to get rid of those things... they were white and supposedly contained some asbestos. Back then, I guess, they weren't real concerned about how to throw it away and the regular garbage crew would take a few each week. Granted it took months to get rid of them all... but I did. Anyway... thanks for sharing this project with us.
