The patern select mode! Oh no! The one thing I didnt even try to try yet. Maybe I will after this video. Thx spvidz. Keep grinding my boi. We need more people like u in this community.
In Pattern mode just hit remain button and the effect you want to use. It basically turns on the effects which is great. You don’t have to go to the individual samples. Nice little short cut.
Don't know how this video slipped by me, but I got it now! Great video bro, and great news.. Got my SP-303 in the mail today and just gave you a shout out on my unboxing! Super excited to get into this machine bro, thanks again for the great tutorials. Help me out a lot!!🙏🏾✊🏾
Yo man well made video, u explained everything in a easy and understandable way. I think is useful for beginners or even for intermediate that didn't know all about it. I use it a lot, its so easy to make an elaborate beat with this, but it's a completely different workflow then resample, or playing live samples plus drums. I use a lot to create drum pattern so I can switch the global tempo and jam over it with my bass or guitar. The sp404 is pure magic man🔥 keep going bro
Thanks a lot man, sounds like a lot of fun! I have also figured out that its cool for getting drum loops down and then you can jump out and use them to play chops over as well!
@@spvidz quick question: once I've created a pattern, should I still be able to apply the FX on the fly as usual to the whole sequence or would I need to create another pattern with FX already applied on each resampled element fo the pattern? If you know what I mean?
You can jump out while the pattern is still playing by hitting the pattern button - then use remain to apply fx to whatever pads you want to. If you want more than one fx you will have to resample
Thanks for this video. You are right, it would have been nice to have a tempo for each individual pattern instead of this one master tempo. Btw love your videos , keep it up, it’s my (almost) weekly sp404 rendez vous. Cheers 🇫🇷
friend, a question How is the beat of the machine exported in pattern mode? Or specifically how to record the full length beat and effects on a separate pad from Pattern mode?
Have you ever used a SP1200? I read that Madlib made Quasimoto The Unseen on the 1200 and The Further Adventures of on the 303? Ever had a play on the 1200? Possibly has the sickest sound?
I havent man no and now they are around £5 - £8k here in the UK so highly doubt I'll ever own one lol. Hopefully one day I'll get to have a play with one!
Im glad I have an MPC 500 to sequence stuff with. The sp pattern mode looks hella no fun zone 🤔 maybe one day I'll try and use it but until that day comes.
@@spvidz I think the hardest thing for me are the buttons on the sp they are just not made for finger drumming. I think it's gunna take some time to get used to them coming from fat pads on my mpc :(
Super useful stuff! I've been trying out Pattern Select more so this is really helpful. Do you (or anyone) have a preferred way to resample patterns? Is the best way to do this to just record into a DAW and back into the SP? :/
@@spvidz Gotcha. Yeah that totally makes sense. Thanks for the reply dude. You've been uploading with Godlike frequency lately so huge respect dude. Keep doing your thing!
The bpm feature IS so annoying! It took me a minute to figure out what was going on--I thought I had messed up my recordings. I'm still learning a lot about the device; I just tried to record import it into garagband and was having trouble. Do you have any suggestions on how to do that properly? Thank you.
Yeah it’s super annoying. Just had to deal with it again recently. Tracking out you can either do a track at a time and line them up in your daw or just do the whole thing in one go. I’ve not covered it too much but n the channel. Need to do some content around it
Don't think you can merge nope - you can copy and paste patterns like any sample though, just do the same process for copy/paste while you are in pattern select
You can't record a pattern performance on the SX no. You can resample patterns/pattern chains on the new MK2 but for this device you have to record out to an external device to capture a pattern recording. You can also only chain the next sequence as well so you will have to be pressing the pads to trigger which sequence you want to play next (unless its the same pad in which case it will continue to loop)
Would this make a good sequencer and sampler for music that isn't hip hop or "beat" related? I want to see the scope of this machines capabilities outside of lofi hip hop but it's almost impossible to find content outside of that or technical tutorials.
The sequencer isn’t great to be honest but it’s an awesome sampler due to the length of time you can have on each pad and all the mfx are cool too. But yeah it’s just a sampler with a pattern maker. Any music you can make with that format like dance etc can be done on this box
Yeah they look awesome - I wouldn't mind one myself. Opted to go for a 2000xl in the end as its a piece of gear I've always wanted. Maybe one day I'll get one of the more modern models!
Hey fella. Can I ask a question? I thought I had a 303 coming from Japan, but of course it was a scam. If I can find any of these legitimately, would you say a 404 would be a better bet for a beginner? Ir should I sack it off and go modern digital? Thanks bud. Already subbed. But added a like.
