MMmm, well I have a 50yo 26ft wooden plank boat (6 tons) with a 3cyl Yanmar...(putt putt). She is painted the same colour as our house 'cause I use the same paint. The most I would travel to fish would be 4ks from the marina. 10 litre of diesel last about 2mths when I am fishing hard. I don't get there as fast as the others but it is just like taking the wharf out fishing. We catch all our own bait and do our own maintenance. I pull her out on the clubs trailer every 18 mths and clean the hull, she is back in the water the same day. When you get to my age (75) you will also be looking for a slower boat. Oh yeah, because I am old I get half price marina fees........Love been old. Cheers........Portland, Vic.....
nothing wrong with an old displacement chug chug. it still gets you there. cheers for the comment good to hear from different people with different ideals
As stated in the other comments that service is a bit expensive . Imagine it was done at hitec. Unless they changed the thermostats you could hardly justify it and mostly it’s a set price . That’s the cost of an extended warranty and if you’re handy you can do most of it yourself and just leave the hard stuff to a mechanic. I own a big fiberglass boat and it is not cheap and it hurts more when you are too busy to use it . But you cant beat a boat on a nice day and hobbies cost money. If it’s what you love doing then you can justify it and find ways to keep the costs down. Regular maintenance is key especially to the trailer
Mate! Sensational vid! Its not often someone jumps onboard your rig and understands the costs involved in running it! Thanks for outlining it so humbly legend🥳
If you got the 3+3 warranty then yes needs to be dealer serviced. If it’s not then you still get 3 years warranty. With the hours you do add up how much you will have spent on dealer servicing over the 6 years….With how much you use it just look after her and forget the warranty after 3 years as if something goes wrong after (unlikely) then you can pay for it to get repaired with all the thousands you have saved in the meantime. Just a thought mate
Boats arent cheap thats for sure. Im pretty selective who i bring these days. I just paid 800ish for my 200 hour service on a 2021 suzi mate. Thanks for sharing, it's got me thinking what i spend also. 🤙🤙
It certainly does all add up doesn’t it, there is always something needed/wanted haha. I’m not surprised on the fuel bill there wouldn’t be a boat that heads out more often then yours I wouldn’t have thought haha!! Also nice work scoring a few more tunas. Wish I was there 🤙🏼😎
Spent 7 grand on my boat in the last 3 weeks 😆, new sounders, lights, fuel lines, hoses, bearings, rocket launcher, trailer winch, it can all add up very quick but it’s what we love, anytime someone ask me if owning a boats expensive I reply if your asking that question don’t buy a boat
I own a f150 4 stroke Yamaha and i service it myself its pretty easy they are just a 4 stroke engine and to service the leg you need a pump and it takes trans or diff oil even the impeller is easy can do the lot for around 200$ only reason i wouldnt service it myself is if it was under warranty.
Im happy to do the service myself but at present its in warranty and Id like to keep it that way so it needs to be done by the dealer, i know the service is pretty basic oil , filters , iplugs, mpeller, check the gearbox oil, make sure linkages are adjusted and check thermostats the grease steering and tilt.
Cheers for sharing the total cost of boat ownership, good for potential boat owners to be aware of. There is also rego on the boat and trailer to add to your tax bill :)
$25k is my annual spend for running the Sharkcat. It adds up quickly when you factor in fuel, maintenance, insurances, storage fees and running a truck to tow the boat. A lot of people aren’t exposed to the time factor too. It takes me an afternoon the day prior to get everything setup for a trip out to the Barrier Reef and a full day after a trip to detail the boat and trailer. Then there’s routine weekly fiddly little tasks on the shit list that have to be done to keep everything shipshape. Look after your boat and she’ll look after you.
Yes a lot of time. im lucky I can leave mine all set up and park it in a shed so dont need to empty all my stuff each time, but still cleaning and fixy bits takes time but its mostly theroputic unless shit is corroded and plays hard ball then it just sucks.
Exactly, I live in Golfo Dulce in Costa Rica. I can only fish 2 days per week. One day for prepping for the trip, one day of fishing, and one day of cleaning fish and cleaning the boat. That leaves one day for doing chores around the house. I keep up with the fishing but the house chores are way behind! lol
@@william.jake.a not really those little tuna are as good as it gets here, not quite tropical enough, water only gets warm in early autunm and lasts a few weeks cools off pretty quick
Holy heavens, you are dropping your pants for that service cost.... Unreal. I am in Perth, have similar motor to yours, I buy a Mercury kit and do it myself. My 8 year old could do it, simple as. $300 and that includes considerably more serviceable components than your Merc dealer will be concerning themselves with ! Motor just keeps going and going without a single issue.
well sometimes im out three or four times a week too, if i drove a bit more responsibly i could use less but i like fast. lucky people watching these vids help to pay the bill but thats another topic for a future vid, Chees Joel
@@Saltfix I had a 300hp Suzuki 2020 and it was $1050 I now have a 300hp 2022 Yamaha and its $950, maybe it's more expensive for parts in WA, I'm in Sydney.
I dont justify shit like that with a comment. if the bait smells bad its not worth biting its easy to talk big online but different to risk losing your boat car and heavy fines for actually doing it. im not happy with how they went about it but you cant look at all the boats going every weekend and all the bag out photos posted online and honestly think its sustainable. something needed to change, just probably need more thought and less knee jerk, in my opinion it should of been done years ago Hope I’m proven wrong
