Maybe use a cover crop of clover, that way all the nutrients stay in the soil doesn't get blown away or baked by the Sun. And bonus points if you choose to cut the cover back far enough that it dies you get all the nitrogen that is stored in the nodules of the roots. And possibly for next year pumpkin, you would start your own compost pile. I find the municipal compost to be made of mostly wood. At least in my area. So I feel like it's only half as good as it could be. Personally I get a truckload of the stuff once a year during the free compost events, take that compost and use it as the Browns or carbon source for my compost pile. That way all my nitrogen food scraps can have a balance of carbon to compost into. That way everything is rich in bug and Worm poop. My first giant pumpkin was last year, it was about 60 lb. Because one Vine snuck off behind a bush next to a fence and had two other 50 lb pumpkin just nursing on it. So I got about 150 lb potential out of impulse purchase of seeds. Hopefully this year I can get one Giant one.

Man, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’re making a series this year again. You came back after a small defeat last year which is something you should totally be proud of! I applaud you for that huge. This will be my first year I attempt growing pumpkins, just big max, nothing crazy but your tips and knowledge I think is going to help me a lot! Thanks again from a fellow New Englander! Adam, from western MA!

Thank you so much! One of the best growers in the country actually lives in western Mass. He goes by Northeast Giant Pumpkins on RU-vid. Check out his longer videos if you want to see a real pro do it.

@@stoneyardgriddle9203 Awesome! I wanted my videos to be enjoyable for "Newbies" (I'm still a newbie) so the fact that your saying that is great. Out of curiosity, how much space do you have dedicated to pumpkins?

I'll be following your pumpkin endeavors closely, you've got damned good video quality btw. I put in grapes, fruit trees, raspberries and gooseberries on my property this year. I'll also be growing a few pumpkins too, along with the classic veggies. So far the garlic is doing the best. Good luck with your pumpkins, man.

Thank you Dave I really appreciate it. If you have the space (at least 150sqf) you should try growing a giant next year.

I think you’ll surprise yourself, run a hose put it on a timer, bury your nodes, spray for bugs! BOOM!!! 1200lbs

What sort of irrigation system do you use? I’m pretty conflicted on what to do.

I use a chapin hydrofeed injector and mix a 32oz concentration of fertilizer, it’s hooked to the spigot on side of the house with a melnor timer set to go off at four customized times per day, thru melnor adjustable spike sprinklers. It’s cheap but reliable. I only have room to grow one per year bout 700sqft. 1275 pb, I think you can smash that!!! Good luck and grow big!

I hope so! I’m only worried about the acidity which will take a while to fix. Also, great videos, I’ve been watching them for a while.
