Go to buyraycon.com/xiaomanyc for 15% off your order! Brought to you by Raycon. I recently visited Amritsar, India and I was completely stunned by how much free stuff people gave me. People were also very surprised when I spoke Punjabi, even though my Punjabi is terrible!
Amritsar is also home to the Golden Temple, the holy site of Sikhism, and even though it’s a Sikh temple Sikhs believe that no one religion has a monopoly on absolute truth and people of all religions are welcome to come and pray. Its Langar Hall is also the world’s biggest community kitchen and serves up to 100,000 free meals per day.
By the way, if you guys want to learn Punjabi or Hindi, I learned most of what I know from my friend Amit whom I met in Amritsar, so check out his Italki profile here: www.italki.com/en/teacher/832...

For those of you who don’t know much about Sikhism, the reason why everything is free around the temple is because all of those shops were doing community service for the general public ,as Sikhism is about helping the community and less fortunate, and to treat all as equals.that is also why we all sit on the temple floor to eat together to show that we are all equal and to stay humble 1. The food is donated by the general public 2.food is prepared and served by the general public.((yes you too can go into a temple and do some community service, serving food or cooking to serve food for who ever sits down to eat at the temple)

Awesome man. Just a minor note, 'seva' doesn't actually mean free in the sense that 'it's free of charge', it's more that it's an offering and a service in the name of god/helping others, which is naturally a free gesture. All temples offer free food to all, Indian or not, it's a way of serving the community without wanting anything in return.

Because then they ignore the fact that wonderful people like the Sikhs exist. Sikhs know how to welcome someone into their society and make one feel at home. It's a beautiful thing when people can understand each other no matter where they are from. The fact the Golden Temple respects all religion is amazing, and I feel like we should all strive to be that way.

I remember I was taking a flight as a child soon after 9/11 to NYC. A Sikh was sitting across from me, and as an 8 year old all I could think of was "Terrorist". I stared at him for a long time, in fear. About 30 minutes into the flight he noticed me and smiled, he had a chocolate bar he had brought along and shared a peace with me. Then in perfect American English said "God bless you my friend, I get nervous on planes too." It was a very eye opening experience. God bless India and the Sikh's of the world. Truly one of the kindest groups of people I've ever met, no matter where I meet them I am always greeted well and respectfully, something i think us Americans could learn from.

Indian religions especially newer ones like Sikhi are definitely not like any Abrahamic religions which are hardcore bent on exclusivity and trying to claim path to god as a monopoly to either one of them meaning “you will go to hell if you are not an exclusive believer of one specific religion”. Instead Sikhi teaches universal brotherhood

as a sikh the main concept and the actual word it self "sikh" just means "To Learn" in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, etc. Who are we too say a whole religion is wrong, were not God... when a sikh sees a person who is devoted to another religion they dont see them being wrong, sikhs just see another human trying to connect with the One true creator we call "God". Sikhi is about Humanity and helping those who are oppressed/voiceless no matter there religion or race. Fighting with other religions is literally pointless and Inhumane, if all major religions are about trying to connect with god and build a relationship with god, why would you be devalue yourself by being hateful and violent towards others......

He tells them only what they want to hear. If he were to speak truth, the Dr. Jekylls would turn to Mr. Hydes. The same goes for any other country or region. Superficially nice, but that's just a facade. Most people in the world are selfish and therefore evil. Do the Punjabis lock their doors at night? This will tell us if they trust each other.

Sikhism's one of the main practice is langar because it's is made in 1500 CE( rule of mughals in india in which many peoples were not getting food proprely) and by seeing that in a sikh temple, you made your conclusion and differentiated north with south. Good and bad peoples are everywhere in this world. If you go with majority, South indian's donate multiple times more then north for good causes like cancer hospitals and orphans which is not even part of anyone's religion. I being a north west indian can say south is most secular and un-racist rigion in India and north west is most racist place with peoples of their own country, ask a bihari or mp poor low wage worker in punjab what punjabi calls them.
