In this video, we're taking a look at some of the basics behind temperature and its effects on mushroom cultivation...along with me struggling to talk at the end!

Google's math says 22c is 71.6 and 24c is 75.2 (and you said 75-80f) Can you clarify which is correct. Thank you.

What would be the ideal humidity for monotubs after you put in the spawn and substrate?
@OneEarthMushrooms
@OneEarthMushrooms 4 года назад
I haven't invested in anything to monitor humidity yet, but from what I've read the humidity should be in the mid-high 90's for most mushroom varieties.

Edaphic: related to or caused by particular soil conditions, as of texture or drainage, rather than by physiographic or climatic factors. Psychrotolerant: Any of various organisms, especially certain archaea, bacteria, and fungi, that thrive at low temperatures between about 10°C and 20°C. Psychrophilic: fond of cold; said of bacteria that grow best in the cold (15° - 20°C). Thermotolerant: able to survive high temperatures; specifically : able to survive pasteurization -used of microorganisms. Thermophilic: of or relating to microorganisms whose optimum temperature for growth is above 45 °C. mesophile: Organisms preferring moderate temperatures, as some bacteria, which develop best at temperatures between 15° and 43°C.

@OneEarthMushrooms
@OneEarthMushrooms 3 года назад
I don't think you're screwed! Remember, these are ideal temperatures. Fungi will still grow outside of these temps, theres just more risk of "contamination" by organisms that thrive better in the higher temps.

How does light play a role
@OneEarthMushrooms
@OneEarthMushrooms 3 года назад
It's my understanding that the role of light is minimal for most species of fungi. Generally, fruiting bodies will grow towards the light, but the affect of light isn't as important as moisture, temperature, full colonization, CO2, O2, etc..

Please use imperial measurements on temperature. I am very intrigued in this, but if I’m constantly having to stop to calculate it defeats the purpose. At least put it on the screen. And to all the haters yes I’m an American chauvinist
@OneEarthMushrooms
@OneEarthMushrooms 3 года назад
Yeah, good point. I'll do that in the future. Unfortunately, my use of metric isn't going to convince the country to switch over to metric.
@Blessed2bFresh
@Blessed2bFresh 3 года назад
Just learn it. It's kind of like some parts of the world use 24-hour clocks where some used 12... It's very easy to figure out and a great source of knowledge that not many people have that is very easy to acquire. I don't mean that in a rude way
@soixantecroissants
@soixantecroissants 3 года назад
American Exceptionalism is the term we use in the UK to describe this sort of attitude. It can be applied to any country really. The UK also has a section of people who prefer Imperial measurement. I kind of agree with you because I hate it when American science videos don't use Celsius - I also find myself doing a lot of conversions. Ultimately since we aren't going to agree to the same one, better just get better at conversion!

@OneEarthMushrooms
@OneEarthMushrooms Год назад
It's a scale used to communicate the average molecular kinetic energy of a substance in a base 10 system, where 0 degrees is the freezing point of water and 100 degrees is the boiling point of water. Do you prefer the Rankine scale?
