And blame others.. And even though yes they are the victim, their abuser, cult leader, will tell them to say, how Miranda is being followed and it’s all the families fault. Now Miranda’s life is in danger. Not by the cult leader no … supposedly by us. One day Miranda will get out. It can be days it can be decades, and we will hear her real story
The "Die to your family" thing doesn’t make sense to me because this dude is surrounded by his entire family… I cannot see how that wouldn’t be a red flag
My dad is a minister. He is available day and night for anyone who wants to speak to him. He also has a full time job. He does weddings , funerals, visits people at the hospital , their house ( if invited) etc. , I don’t know how he manages to keep going. So it’s very odd to me for a pastor to not be available to speak to anyone.
My MIL was a pastor for 20 years and she never received a penny from the congregation. Her door was always open. There were always people at her house. That’s not healthy either, but it always baffles me and is a huge red flag when pastors are getting paid an exorbitant amount of money by their church.
@@Kat_X085 yes but that money went to running the church (rent, light, heat, etc). She didn’t receive a paycheck and she wasn’t going to force or guilt her members to pay more so that she could live off of them.
When anyone tries to separate you from your loved ones, that should be the lightbulb moment. If they love you, they will love your people too. Your friends and family are not a threat to a healthy person/institution. Abusers isolate.
I personally know Miranda, her sister Melanie, and their family. I danced with the sisters. Their dad was my math teacher, and their mom worked at my middle school. It's so strange seeing Miranda in this way and how much their family dynamic changed. The sisters were inseparable, and their family was so close. I'm hoping everyone can eventually find peace and start their healing journey. I also hope Miranda is safe and knows just how loved she is.
@@TararyzeMcgThe way in which Melanie and the parents have responded to all of this most definitely has damaged their relationship with Miranda. Stop pretending Miranda and James are the cause of the strained relationship.
Thank you for making this point. Some ppl simply can’t understand how complex coercive control is-and it’s not overstating the reality when the researchers/experts refer to it as “invisible chains”.
“She had not known the weight until she felt the freedom”… it’s a quote from the Scarlet Letter that I have tattooed on my arm as a reminder of the abuse I went through but had no idea how awful it was until I escaped.
My grandma is a Jehovah's Witness, which I consider a cult. She needed a necessary medical procedure that would vastly improve her life, but refused because it would involve a blood transfusion and Jehovah's Witnesses oppose blood transfusions. She can barely walk now because she didn't have this medical procedure.
I am a Christian belong to a non denominational church but I also have very tumultuous interaction with Jehovah witnesses myself. My grandmother passed away because she refused to get a blood transfusion due to her Jehovah Witnesses beliefs. I am not fond of this denomination of Christianity. I never was a witness but now I don’t even want to speak with them about God.I don’t associate myself with them all anymore.
I disagree that Miranda’s family got wrapped up in the documentary and lost sight of rebuilding their relationship with her. She is only in contact with her family for show AS INSTRUCTED BY ROBERT. Her family did the right thing, the only thing they could to bring light to this and try to save her in the long run. I hope she gets out. It is unfortunate because I think without her relationship with BDash this never would’ve happened. In the original live her family did they mentioned she was not raised religious. So she doesn’t have foundational knowledge of it, and also maybe has no knowledge of what to be wary of in relation to religious practice/religious manipulation. BDash was previously in a similar cult and is clearly susceptible to manipulation, and she got roped in because you trust people you love.
this documentary was completely funded by somebody that Miranda has been suing long before it came out. Miranda was also her sisters main meal ticket and I think she wanted out of her family's control. It is also not against the law to be an a cult if she is which I don't think she is
@@tara6460this is totally a cult but ok. At the very least it is very obvious that she is being controlled/manipulated into and out of actions and behaviors.
I wasn’t fully convinced this was a cult until I saw all of the interviews in the documentary and heard the recordings of his sermons. Once I heard those I was fully on board that this is a full blown cult. I really hope the lawsuit breaks this open and he sees punishment.
Yeah at first I thought he was just a douchey manger. Then when the other two sisters started telling their stories and the accusations of sexual misconduct it got so much worse. Definitly a cult.
@@frankiesayspanicI'm in the UK and the level of religious craziness in the USA is just so hard to understand here. Just by what I learn online, I'm not surprised so many people wind up either traumatised or completely controlled without realising that's what's happening. We just don't have that level of religious mania as a country.
I was raised LDS and was taught that bad thoughts were from the devil and I needed to repent and sometimes confess to the bishop. I was also taught that if I didn’t repent it would be shown on a “big screen” after we die on judgement day. It was terrifying as a child and I still struggle with it to this day and I’m 39.
@@kaylakitty3814 exactly… the pastor and staff need to be paid (I was raised Christian and my first job was as a paid church organist when I was 16… our church from 20-ish years ago even had a parish nurse. When my second child was born with a couple of heart defects she even reached out to us as a source of support and information) Electricity and HVAC are not free Churches fund community outreach projects That pipe organ I played needed very specialized professional maintenance Volunteers cooked food, from between-service coffee to the whole luncheon at each funerals. The food of course needed to be purchased. That said, I’ve never been to a church that actually tracked who donated how much - except to provide a receipt for taxes, and/or discussed it with individuals. They passed around a plate and were thankful for what they got. Maybe that’s what that reply meant?
Agreed, it was so explosive how popular it was since it was majorly unknown beforehand. My boyfriend and I thankfully moved in together right before stuff really shut down and I’ll never forget watching Tiger King while we unpacked
Can u imagine working 40 hours a week and only having $100 in your bank acct at the end of the month? Yes, yes I can. Vividly actually. And I know a few others can relate too!!
@@Sweetieee absolutely. And yes I was talking more of paying bills. I’ve also experienced somewhat the latter. Often in abusive relationships, your check becomes theirs and u may get a small allowance if anything. Financial abuse is very real. Yes I was making light of being broke but I do understand financial abuse and do not think it’s funny.
Any Christian church I've ever been to you can talk to the pastor right after Sunday service or you can make an appointment to have a meeting or for counseling services. You can also call or email the pastor
yeah, I don't know what is going on with people these days. People seem to be incapable of living simple lives - there has to be sensation and drama or firework feelings for them to function in Faith.
How is it weird? My church growing up people caught the holy Spirit speaking in tongues I've seen old ladies filled with the holy Spirit runny speaking in tongues is even in the Bible
If your spiritual leader doesn’t obey their own rules/commandments ITS A CULT If your church dictates your income, IT’S A CULT If you are told to cut off family that disagrees with your church, ITS A CULT. Poor Miranda saying she’s had threats or at least they’ve “been brought to light” I would wager heavily that she’s terrified for her life, because someone has convinced her there are threats. Who knows if anyone actually had threatened her and her husband. RS has a history of scaring/threatening people into submission.
I don't know why, but Nick Raiano seems more vulnerable than Miranda. Maybe because Miranda has been on social media defending herself and Nick seems to have disappeared? 🤔
I don't think that Miranda's family lost sight of anything. I think they and everyone else involved saw an opportunity to expose Robert, his awful history, his cult, etc. and couldn't say no to it because this could be their one opportunity to stop him once and for all. None of them seem scared to talk about it in the documentary and are very open about it all. But Netflix maybe was scared of getting roped into lawsuits so they edited things down to protect themselves. Or maybe they just didn't think a lot of it was entertaining enough so they cut it down to the parts that would draw in more viewers because at the end of the day, that's all Netflix really cares about.
The family themselves came out n said that the producers wanted to try to keep it as simple as possible by sticking to just one part of the storyline of the situation so as not to confuse everyone. They would've needed to have a series to discuss everything. If they had the time and money, they would've told more.
I’m a recovering Catholic. I feel that if the Holy Spirit was speaking, the Spirit would communicate in a way I could understand and not in convulsive gibberish.
LA natives are amazing it’s the people who move here with intentions to get rich and famous are the problem. You won’t find LA natives in the influencer hot spots lol
I know LA gets a bad rap. I used to have to fly to LA and stay in Santa Monica to see my neurosurgeon and eventually get surgery, and I fell in love with the city. I guess I haven't experienced the shitty influencer fakes. I've only met truly lovely people. I no longer have medical treatment as an excuse to visit so I need to wait until I can come for a proper vacation and experience the city. Y'all are awesome. 🙂
Joel Osteen wouldn’t even open the church for evacuees AFTER a devastating storm 😬 he is definitely unavailable to speak with the regulars after service 😂
Televangelists, ESPECIALLY Joel, are evil. I'm Lutheran but don't call myself a Christian because the evil ones have ruined the name. Remember Tammy Faye Baker and her evil evangelist husband?
The speaking in tongues clips had me cracking up 😂 whats funny is the Bible literally says that speaking in tongues isn't really meant for church. Its a way a communicating with God privately IF he gives you that gift of the holy Spirit. The Bible says that speaking in tongues is really only beneficial for the church if there is someone there that can interpret what you are saying.
Yes the speaking in tongues clips were way obvious. I’ve been to a church where a lady started speaking in tongues (not evangelical) and it was a whole different thing from what the video showed. My dad will pray himself into convulsions and speaking tongues. I am not a believer in orthodox religions but I know he ain’t faking it it’s real by how he is after he comes out of it as well. Shoot I’ve witnessed the snake handling as well. Its very obvious when it’s real and it’s fake when you’re not indoctrinated…
I thought "tongues" was a Greek word. When believers traveled to foreign land, the Holy Spirit may give them the gift of speaking in that language. They could speak to non-believers in their native language.
I was so adamant that I was not in a cult (absolutely was) because I was so scared deep down, I was in fact in a cult. Which meant my entire life is and was a lie. When you force someone to confront, the idea of a "cult" the immediate response is automatically no because that's what we're taught. Now that I'm on the outside I see both sides. My suggestion is to ask questions that lead them to give answers that are red flags. The hope is eventually they're recognize the red flags and because of those, they'll leave. Keep in mind some people who do leave loose absolutely everything and everyone in their life. For some its to terrifying to leave.
I was the one who knew perfectly well I was in a cult, but didn’t see a problem with it 🤦♀️ I used to say “if it’s a cult, I don’t care.” Because they brainwash you to see all the signs of a cult as being good things.
The thought that you could be completely brainwashed & controlled & not even know it is SO scary!!! I’ve looked into & learned about cults/high control groups for years. Once I had masters in mental health counseling I hope to specialize in helping those ppl.
You’re needed! Without my old therapist (who has experienced her own religious trauma) I might still think my negative church experiences were all in my head.
@@Bulldog_Mamacertain people are more susceptible than others. I was forced into one and knew the whole time it was a cult and I just had to pretend to survive. Others were completely and totally lost in it and didn’t realize until years later. They prey on your insecurities and exploit your weaknesses and traumas
People who leave cults or religions that are high control do not know they need to be deprogramed psychologically in therapy. It's more than therapy to help yourself gain insight. You literally need to learn how you were mentally manipulated to believe that the cult was the only acceptable way to live & serve a diety. Cults are not about God or a faith. The leader is the one you are serving & they use faith in God as a way to control every aspect of your life. The lifestyle may attract people who have no direction in life, no real goals & feel empty & alone. The cult members pull you in with love bombing. You feel a sense of community & no longer drifting in life. But a cult will destroy you not set you free.
I didn’t believe Miranda was really receiving death threats or being threatened in any way - I think that was a ploy by the cult to show themselves as victims and keep up with the publicity
I think she is being threatened. About 2 days before she made that video I thought oh boy she is going to get it hard. One blogger with a huge following was going after her so hard it was sickening.
@@chelseathomas7965 I looked it up, it was one of the promotional thumbnail images for the movie. It's the shot of Brian holding a joint-- they replaced it with a pencil LOL.
Miranda: “we’ve been working privately to restore our relationship” Proceeds to film everything. I honestly think she’s not a victim of the cult, she’s part of it.
Have you done your due diligence in regards to Katie Joy. She has done more damage in regards to outing this cult, because no one believes her. This is her fifth defamation lawsuit.
I was going to a church and I really liked it, even started singing with the worship group, until they told me that I HAD to speak in tongues to be part of it officially…. That was my queue to leave 😅
That's crazy! I have NEVER seen anyone speak in tongues at church😂. That would also be my cue to leave. On a side note the praise and worship team is one of my favorite things about church. Our church has some really talented singers, it's jaw -dropping how good they are.
@@kimmiegirl810 I was raised in a Pentecostal church, speaking in tongues is kinda “normal” in those churches, but I never understood the concept… but yeah! I love listening to worship groups! It brings so much peace 😌
I am a real estate appraiser licensed in California. I have appraised a few tik tok-ers and/or instagrammers homes. First, these homeowners were all very young. Not even 25 and they owned large beautiful homes and most lived on their own… i.e. no roommates. However, I appraised this one house in North Hollywood in the NoHo District and the house was literally a tik tok-er dormitory. Some were filming while I was doing the inspection in different rooms or outside. I am wondering now, if that house was part of this cult group?
I don't get people not thinking this is a cult, just based on the doc alone. He controlled their money, their careers, their sexual/social attachments, separated families, and made himself the sole curator of their spiritual lives..
Joel olsteen is not a pastor. He is a motivational speaker. He is a false teacher one of many that Jesus warned about. There are so many of these false pastors. They are in it for the money. Not for the people and definitely not for God. When I say I must die to self I’m saying I must let go and let God. After all just think about it. Self serving, selfishness, self seeking, and on and on. If everyone let go of self and instead held out a helping hand, I believe this world would be a better place. Joel Olsteen and Joyce Myers, Jesse Duplantis, Cleffer Dollar, Sid Roth and on and on are in it for the money. They do not care if the poorest person gave to them their last dollar. In fact they encourage it. Jesus is real. He will be coming back very soon and all of these evil people that are leading millions to hell, will have to face Jesus (God) on judgement day. They don’t fear God because they do not know God. God is a God of great love, after all he died so we could have eternal life. In saying that though, God is also a God of wrath and these false teachers are in big trouble.
❤ Love you Kendall 💓 Thanks for covering, I accidentally wound up in a church colt and it was really really rough. They tried to have my kids taken from me but God knew I was only ever seeking him and he covered my family with Grace and Mercy 🙏. After my ordeal I found out that they were a cult and they had done that to several other families before mine. I still Thank God for getting us all out mostly in one piece ❤
Did you guys even watch the Netflix documentary? Much of this was mentioned and Priscilla and her sister were in the documentary. Seems as if the sister had just left as the document was being filmed.
I couldn't see falling into it in this day amd age, different than being indoctrinated since birth. I think you get addicted to the hype. All the popularity, going viral, money "opportunity ". Throw in God. I guess I could see it, but all the access to the world...
Cult leaders prey on people with certain vulnerabilities. They can sense who is receptive to the brainwashing and offers, etc. It's hard to understand the complexity of it as an outsider but let's just say, a lot of psychological and energetic manipulation goes into it. Similar things happen with ab*sive relationships.
I can't with these 'prophets' taking very very meaningful Hebrew words and completely distort them. This word is used in some very important prayers in Hebrew and even though I'm not religious, hearing it being used so frivolously irks me so much as a native Hebrew speaker.
i hate that people always speak negative about LA because of the transplants but never talk about our rich history that was created by the minorities living there. even LA reputation has been gentrified
Not just "minorities." Of course, I am a minority in LA. I'm a 4th generation Angeleno. My family came here after my Great-Great-Grandfather served in the Union Army in the Civil War. He was a Preacher and his wife was a Doctor. They moved to the Pasadena/La Cañada/La Crescenta area. And my mother grew up in Pasadena. They came here in the 1870's and stayed. Most of the people I know are transplants from somewhere else. They come here and tell me that my family has no culture. That's because my ancestors left their homeland in 1620. My culture is American. I have no allegiance to any foreign country. No waving a foreign flag. And my husband is first generation. He considers himself an American too. Not a "Mexican-American." An American. Period. Our kids are descended from the Mayflower on my side and Mexico on my husband's side. They are American. And this city and state USED to be great. But it's a leftist, dystopian sh*thole now. Our politicians suck.
That was literally the Bible verse of the day today on the Bible app…. Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I’d love to know if Señor Psychopath has ever preached about that verse in his sermons . Probably not and if he did I’m sure he twisted it so it fit his evil plans so perfectly
"For where your treasure is there your heart will be also" is the inscription on Ariana Dumbledore's gravestone. My favorite verse because of the message and seeing it in Harry Potter❤
I found out my brother listens too y’all. We don’t live in the same state even and we were adopted. I would say we both are extremely lucky to have found y’all. Neat yeah?
I think this cult was an escape for her from her controlling family. Both can be true. She could be in a cult and have a controlling, boundaryless family.
No it can’t. You can’t tell ppl who they can or can’t follow. It’s against our rights. I wish it could pass and include cults, but it will never happen
I fall asleep every night listening to either y’all’s podcast or listening to reruns of Kendall’s true crime. You both have a safe space in my life and give me peace, although some/ most things discussed can be unsettling if thru true crime. I love you two as a couple so much and am incredibly grateful. ❤
Yeah, Joel Osteen is so high up there now and his coat that there’s no way you could get to talk to him. It would take 1 million hoops but a basic pastor is always willing to meet with you.
I could imagine me having to tell every thought to a mentor and the mentor losing their mind. 😂 "Dang my toe hurts. Do you smell peaches? What was that song from that one movie? Omg that thing in 3rd grade was so embarrassing...and so on... Infinity 😂😂
I'm definitely with Kendall in thinking in the mega churches the pastors are not readily available to chat with. Even in churches not mega just bigger. Some big pastors really become celebrities in their areas.
If Katie Joy had any imput into this documentary, you have all your answers. She's horrible at presenting both sides of a story and many of her videos about 7m paint the members as being awful horrible people. She isn't some sleuth she's the temu version of a journalist/reporter.
As a Christian, hearing bout these people taking the Bible and twisting it so badly is infuriating. It causes so much hurt and God doesn’t play around with that.
You guys! I live in L.A. , it isn’t all that bad. I’m sorry you guys hate but I love it. Born and raised here and I’m 65 and never leaving. Love you guys too.
I thought the same thing when I was living in London and then we moved out to the other side of the country in a much quieter city and every single time I go to London I hate it, and question myself why I was feeling that way then , why I loved leaving in London so much?!!! After 8 years away from London I will never leave there ever......
There’s a difference from the natives born here vs the transplants. Those who come to LA are more than likely looking to making it “big” in Hollywood and often do whatever it takes to get there. Vs those who’ve been here their whole lives and are able to see right through all that.
I have a feeling part of the reason they didn't go all the way with this is because of what happened with baby reindeer and the lawsuits there. Not the save exact situation but a defamation issue that can cost a lot even to win, if it's tied up in the courts forever. If anyone's needed an attorney for anything, you'll learn it's not cheap to go to court even if you come out on top.
When someone tells you they are the prophet, God, or have direct communication with God, it's a lie. Don't give them all your money. Don't abandon your family because they tell you too. I grew up in a religious family who actually was. I hear this stupid crap and I can recognize this bs right away.
The crazy thing is all these rules align with a dv relationship. I don't understand how anyone can hear these rules and think this is anything other than a cult.
He reminds me of a female Teal Swan in ways. She worked so hard to prove to others, her followers, and maybe mostly herself that she is not running a cult. The irony is the more these crazies press that defense, the more hypocritical their behaviors, and the more they clamp down on their inner circle. I think it’s a very useful portrayal of the lack of self awareness. I really believe that these self appointed “leaders” are as tone deaf to their roles as master manipulators as their followers are unaware of the coercive control they’re being subjected to.
27:39 I left my church after 37 years realizing how much spiritual abuse takes place. Imagine that this is the only way to go to heaven. That's a huge deal and it's V hard to break mental cycle. It's indoctrinated in your brain, for me, since birth.
When i first watched a documentary on the wilkons family, i really thought they were probably just not accepting that she may have been a victim of her family and that her family was upset about losing access. But now that we see the entire story, it's hard to see it that way now.
L.A. native here (moved to NY) I agree with Josh lol obv no matter where you go you'll find bad ppl and good ppl but stereotypically, LA is so fake. Everyone is overly nice and you will meet "besties" in one interactions. But when you really need ppl, they dont care about you. In NY it's the opposite. Lots of cold people that take a while to warm up to but they actually give a damn about you.
Kendall's skin is literally glowing and her hair looks so thick and healthy and shiny. If I'm not mistaken she said she was battling PCOS and I would love to learn more about how because clearly she's winning. She looks much healthier now than she did around last year this time
Robert Shinn is very suspect but his lawsuit against Katie Joy may have some merit. If she doesn't have proof of her allegations he may have a case. Also she hasn't stopped talking about him even though she's being sued. She keeps digging the hole deeper.
The way these people are “speaking in tongues” is highly unbiblical! The Bible talks about speaking in tongues but has clear guidelines. Not everyone speaks in tongues (most Christians today do not). Tongues are in the book of Acts where one person speaks in a language that is not their own. Then there MUST be someone who is able to translate what they are saying. “And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.” Acts 2:6. It is not “babbling” it is not chaotic, it is not required.
As someone who is from a little bit outside of los angeles, i can 100% agree with you guys. I avoid LA as much as possible lmao i can't remember the last time i actually went into the city and i dont live that far from it. Everybody is so fake
The editing is hands down the best I've ever seen! I was on a rollercoaster of emotions when Tim Allen showed up, then Kanye?!!! Love you editor, keep it up!
Not sure what you guys were watching. Everyone should think that it's a cult after seeing the doco. But at the end of the day the family can't force anyone to come home, people make choices.
