I just brought one to replace my Chromebook [Samsung pro] I got it from Amazon for 229 with free shipping and handling, Just before black Friday sales. I love it!.
It's not useless, Chromebook's are updated every 6 weeks or so. Android, works ok on phone's, so so on tablets & as you've discovered not so, so so on the Chromebook!! As it lacks many of the sensors tablets have. However you would expect this as android was never designed for laptops!
In the "Google Play Store" section, next to "Install apps and games from Google Play on your Chromebook," select Turn on. support.google.com/chromebook/answer/7021273?p=playapps&b=elm-signed-mpkeys&visit_id=636752310217219078-4135225164&rd=1 -- Chromebook Spin 11 (R751T) Stable Channel - www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps
two options -- check the facts, not the pictures - wacom pen - some spin 11's are sold with an optional wacom pen, that could mean that its just a TOUCH laptop, no wacom electronic's - world view camera -- the dip in the keyboard under the "acer" name, some spin 11's have an "optional" world camera to enable TABLET photo's
These cheaper chromebooks get overlooked. A lot of reviewers say they are suitable for kids and students. But I think they are perfectly suitable for non-techie adults as well who just want a basic, reliable and fairly speedy machine for web browsing, online shopping, banking etc...There are more premium options available but I think if you don't use a computer that much whats the point? You could stretch your budget and buy an Asus C302 or Pixelbook but get worried about scratching it! Wheres the fun in that? Computers are tools not fashion accesorries after all! Something like the Spin 11 is a cool little computer that gets the job done! Something honest about that! Nice review btw!
Well i like to try to jeep mines looking nice, that screen not get ruined or broken, so should have protection. Is like saying ypu will feel great with messy car or bedroom, clutter, no shower, no clean clothes, etc. You not feel great working on ugly scratched all over device. My phone isnt perfect but still jeep it best i can cuz os not high end either, but of it was even more so, I'd be surely worried about it. Like the s10 note plus I wanted. But i can call do all on this ttansfer feom phone txt with the pen on there is like having a surface pro which cost allot. Finally I can wrote in internet, so not bad for the price all comes with it. Maybe in the future I can buy the pretty higher end ones saw on reviews on RU-vid video channels.
I bought this 2yrs ago. It's more expensive to buy this in Malaysia. My 13yr old uses this for online classes since the lockdown due to c19. I'm not a fan of their EMR pen. The nib came off after the first 2 months of using it and Acer doesnt provide nib replacements or a warranty for it. I managed to get Staedtler noris digital complementary from Staedtler and it's been good to us so far. Downside to chrome os is when teacher gives Excel formula homework and we can't have a Windows version excel.. so good to think about the longer term use if you'll be needing Microsoft office etc. Otherwise you'll get very basic googledocs for free. I do like that it's convenient for me to digitally sign documents during these times.
Thanks for the video! I chose to buy the Google Pixelbook when it was on sale for $750 a couple weeks ago. I am loving it. Beautiful design and lots of power in a small package.
Please stop comparing the Pixelbook verse any other Chromebook - it's more that DOUBLE the cost of any other average Chromebook currently on the market. They're not in the same category at all.
jowdyboy: Well, I didn't compare them. I thanked the uploader for the video and told them what my purchase decision was. So, maybe take your moron comments and shove them up your ass.
@ImGoingDark If $750 is such a high financial watermark for you that it feels as though someone is "flexing" on you, then I can see why you feel unfulfilled enough with your life so as to get this emotional over a benign RU-vid comment. Might I suggest going on a date, taking up a sport, or enrolling in some college courses. Your parents aren't going to allow you to inhabit their basement while watching homosexual bukkake porn forever, after all.
I've had this laptop for about a year now. I've loved the features so far. Someone recently brought up to me that the keyboard isn't backlit. i hadn't really thought about it, but I wish it were. It's somewhat frustrating to work on it at night and to feel like I need to be sitting in front of a light.
My Spin 11 didn't come with a stylus and any kind of active stylus I've tried to use with it worked really poorly. Good to know if you're looking to draw on this thing.
Don't think that I don't like about it is the MicroSD slot. When you put the card in it goes all the way in and you can't use your finger to pop it back out you have to use a screwdriver sideways. It's your told me to get an HC X adapter which I can't find anywhere. Other than that I really like this Chromebook. It has a very good keyboard.
Can I hook up the acer spin 311 with a USB c to hdmi cable directly to my samsung computer monitor. Seems to be warnings from the cable sellers that you must have UBC alt mode. There is also a warning that certain cables are just pas thru and will not relay the signal thru the monitor. Suggestion is that cable should be powered? Not sure any advice will be nice. Have you ever connected the UBC port to a monitor with a simple cable?
my stylus is very sensitive and writes on the screen when i havent touched the screen with it yet. is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
Chromebook's are primarily html terminal's. Designed to work with Google web page " apps " this is the wrong word as it confuses people. Google docs are web page based utilities. Progressive web pages will extend the productivity of web pages. Web assembly, code will allow programs currently restricted to conventional personal computer's to run on web page based machines like Chromebook's.
Well actually, they now run also Android apps and the latest release has now Linux apps as well, so it is no longer just a terminal, although I agree that is what is was used to be like. The changes are coming very quickly and I have the black version which I just bought used tonight. It also fires up a UHD / 4K display at 60hz. So this is actually a very nice little device.
18 Chromebooks from Acer, Asus, Lenovo, & Dell receive Linux app support www.xda-developers.com/apollo-lake-chromebooks-acer-asus-lenovo-dell-linux-app/
is yours a spin 13 or a spin 11? with a 4K display? www.pcworld.com/article/3275957/chromebooks/the-acer-chromebook-spin-13-is-a-classy-product-rising-above-a-mob-of-cheap-clamshells.html
It's a pity that Chromebooks are becoming old fashioned laptops again, -- tied down with memory, CPU's local storage and operating system's, Android & Linux the chrome os with chrome browser is, a much cleaner low maintenance approach, every web page loaded is the latest version & renders on chrome, Firefox, Edge & safari based machines
When you opened the box, and plugged in the Acer Spin 11 Chromebook to charge, and then tried to power it on the first time, did you have any problems? Was the stylus and screen so sentitive that it started interacting and drawing from the screen when the tip was 1/2 inch-1 inch away from the screen rather than interacting and drawing only when the tip is in direct contact with the screen?
I am currently having this same exact issue, I just bought this today and they Stylus does not work properly. It draws with the tip not even touching the screen and then does not open taps when i click with it. Did you by chance find a resolution?
I just traded in for another one, and this time is working the way I want it to. Maybe some were defective. Did yours start out of the box when you plugged it in to charge the first time?
Hi I hope you can help?? I really want this item, and also want to make sure I get a CB that will do google play/android. I found the compatibility list by Google (sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps). For Spin 11 it only says "R751T". But I have found at least FOUR different model numbers for this (ex C4xp c9BL C5p3! and cant tell the different. ALso have found CP311-1HN which says its a Spin 11 (but its not on that compatability chart so I dont want that). ANy ideas/insight???
Not bad. But just not like the color. Black keys i seen other beauties. I don't need family one. Is just for me. I have chrome book, hate that the the speakers broke have issues, sound goes away. It was nice lots port, but not able to game like pc games I want, but can I have tablet app games ? Guess not. I still have protection sleeve on keys, but good to know. My picture on heavy one that is great, but if doesn't oh well. must been on sake. I wait holiday, cuz is back up $339 atm. But is touch screen 2 in 1 tabket and pen and case so not bad for low budget. Not super premium beauty only a bit outside then other I looked up on RU-vid lots of videos, but those cost $500 &1k & up to 6k etc, but I can't find them on HSN or ones I can make payments on. I'm poor. Not in my budget. That screen look not convincing me though. I'm looking all in one gaming. Wait Playstore finally ! So I can dowload all the games like Davinchi 1-3 not all at once when finish each, the room, all play store games ? How so ? Great then this is for me maybe no more expending looking to replace the sadly new broken ones only 1 & 2 yrs old when my tablet at least been okay if not broken screen dropped lightly tap on screen and chrome is soft screen not glass that break easier, plus leaving it at home from now on. Duffle bag etc protection didn't help it at all. I got it 2 yrs ago no extended warranty at Best But Digiland $79 on sale. I know it would have lasted if not for that stupid bad luck of had left it home that fateful day end of last yr. Maybe i can get an actual gaming pc build myself later like $300_$400 on RU-vid channel video. Tyvm for your review.
