I see the problem. At the :23 mark of the video you can see that the frame legs are not pulled out at the bottom. They are straight up and down, perpendicular with the earth. They are meant to be at an angle (farther out at the bottom). Those plastic straps should have been pulled taught, not loose like they are in the video. I'm glad no one got physically hurt.

I have a 12 X24 intex pool and have had no trouble with it. Have had it for 3 years now. When setting it up the instructions say to make sure you use at least 16" X 6X2 treated wood under the legs and adjust the legs as the pool fills keeping the straps that attach to the bottom of the legs and the pool taut, this assures that the walls expand properly as it's filled and allows the legs to maintain the proper angle. You only need to do this for about the firs 1/4 of the filling process. It looks like those legs failed because the were trying to support the weight of the pool.

The instructions on these type of pools recommends just using a garden hose even if it ends up taking 2 days to fill up(that's how long it took to fill our 22' round coleman pool). The pressure that these water companies use is too high for these kind of pools. They need to be filled very slowly and you are supposed to be in the pool kneeding out the wrinkles in the liner as it fills and have someone on the outside constantly leveling the legs as it fills.

what looks like to me those bars will expand as the poll expands on the bottom. yours couldn't move because they were trapped by the patio so it bent the supports and then water went over the top. you need a good 2 or 3 ft of space around the pool to allow for flex or expansion with those types. a steel wall would be a better option against the patio.

I just purchased a 14ft round prism pool set. I had my wife walk around the pool kicking out the corners while it was filling up. And also you have to pull the legs out because the pool expands as it gets full. Definitely needs to be watched while filling it up. I stayed outside the whole 6 hours it took to fill up.

You #1 filled it too fast and should have used a hose, takes about 1 day to completely fill. #2 the Leg looks like it was up against a concrete slab and couldn’t “kick out” or fully extend like it needed to causing the fast pressure to buckle the legs. I think the bars on the side it collapsed on were not pulled out all the way on the bottom. The picture right before it collapsed shows the material on the ground is buckled (loose), so those bars on that side look more vertical than it should. If that would have been pulled out, it probably would have been fine.

@Laineyslife not only did you think a 20,000 psi pool water tanker was the fastest way to go for a dip, but you were also charged at the very least a $300 dollar minimum for that delivery. Pool water delivery is mainly for in-ground pools and strong sturdy 24ft and bigger above ground pools. The poles on these pools are not meant to handle that pressure. That's why they're $400. It cost you the same amount you paid for the pool as it did to have the high pressure water tanker come destroy it!
@Laineyslife
@Laineyslife 2 года назад
Oh I lost a lot more than That! The reason I used a water tank is because we had the worse water pressure ever! I was my mothers caretaker at the time and needed running water. If I used a hose we wouldn’t be able to flush the toilet do dishes laundry or even wash our hands. Day or night even. It would take all summer. So this was the pool companies recommendation. The reason why it collapsed is a defective connection and the water delivery man was suppose to fill it slower.
@peanutbutterisfu
@peanutbutterisfu Год назад
You do not fill these pools fast! You fill them slow while paying attention to the legs and the liner. When the pool first starts filling up you will adjust the liner a bit to get the wrinkles outs then You will have to adjust the legs to make sure they are straight as the pool starts to fill up if you don’t do this and just one leg is not straight it will not be holding the load of the pool causing the other legs to take on the load which also makes the liner take on more load and this is what happens. Also when filling slowly everything has a chance to settle. Amazon and the pool manufacturer are not liable for this it is completely your fault. I’m not trying to be a jerk just stating the facts. Read the directions next time. Also to the people that complain about these pools leaking, tearing and giving bad reviews 99.9% of the time it’s your fault! The pool needs to be 100% level, you need to put a tarp under the pool so nothing sharp or pointy can puncture a hole. Every time I call someone out they can’t send a picture of the pool and they obviously took pics because they were pissed off they don’t send a picture because they know they were at fault. There was a lady at Walmart swearing at the customer service lady and the lady looks at me saying can you believe Walmart? I spent 400 on a pool a month ago and they won’t return it they want me to contact the company. I said that sucks, did you install it properly, nice and level, put a tarp under it? She said my man set it up right. I said which pool was it because I want one. She showed me a pic of it before the liner tore, you could see the water was a good 5 in lower on one side, could see they just put it on the grass no tarp no sand. I said there’s ur problem see how the one side the water is almost at the top and the other side is atleast 5in lower? The ground wasn’t level then u put it right on the grass no sand no tarp. I can’t believe it lasted a whole month being that far out of being level and don’t bother getting another one unless you level the ground the liner will tear on every pool because when it’s not level the liner is getting stretched basically that’s why it tore you shouldn’t be giving these Walmart employees a hard time. She said how am I gonna know the pool needs to be level? Read the directions.
@robinsturgis5733
@robinsturgis5733 Год назад
This is installation error you cannot have the pool legs up against the concrete where they cannot expand and move while the pool is being filled. You also have to let the driver know of the delivery truck it needs to be filled slowly.
@malkuth1974
@malkuth1974 Год назад
I know this is older vid, but I can see a few issues that might have happened. Filling it as quickly as a truck can, and not pulling out those legs as its fills can cause this problem. The pool expands a lot while filling, and if those legs tuck under the pool and are not pulled back, those supports well bend. Seems like the side that bent was at the extreme up against you patio, and had no where to go. Just stuff to look out for future DIY pool builders.
@Laineyslife
@Laineyslife Год назад
Thanks for watching. Yes the kegs needed to be pulled out a little bit but we also had a defective pipe connector I think that’s what they call it. We used a truck to fill because our water pressure was way to slow to fill it we wouldn’t have any water in the house.

Looks like it was put together wrong. The butress supports are usually on the long sides not the short sides. That's where most pressure is in a rectangle/oval pool. Round pools distribute the pressure more evenly but the oblong ones don't. Hard to tell from the hotos but looks like it was assembled backwards with the supports. Super sucks.

These pools should be gradually filled, it was not the pools fault, it was yours for not knowing that. The instruction manual clearly tells you what to do. The legs will also move as you fill it, so filling too fast will not give them time to adjust.

This happened because you did not adjust the tubular structure while filling the pool. Filling the pool with a tank truck was not a good idea because the water flow was too important and you didn’t have the time to adjust the tubular structure of the pool. The hose from the truck probably put too much pressure on one side of the pool that’s why the pool collapsed. All above ground pool owners fill their pool with a garden hose so they have time to see if the tubular structure does not deform during filling and they can adjust the liner to remove any folds at the bottom of the pool. You need to adjust the tubular structure several times during the refill because the pressure changes with the quantity of water in the pool , there are so many videos on internet that you can’t ignore the right procedure. Good luck with Amazon.
@markyates5744
@markyates5744 3 года назад
Circular above-ground pools will "always" be stronger. Simple physics - the pressure on all sides is even. In a rectangular pool the pressure in the middle of the longest sides will be very high with tons of water on it - unless setup exactly right you're going to get structural collapses. Got a 12ft pool, filled with a hose in 7 hours, and no issues.
@feng443
@feng443 3 года назад
When I fill up my rectangle pool, I notice that the longer side form an arch facing inside. I believe that's good as it make the side strong in term of supporting all the weight, by not just depending on the legs.

You can see by the end that's still standing that you didn't do this! You are also supposed to keep pulling the legs out as it fills. If you don't do this then Intex pool will collapse. If you fill them too quickly there is no chance to move the feet/poles into the right position as the load builds up. Looking at the before picture the legs are not fully extended for example.

it looks like a section of the rail wasn't securely snapped in , there's 3 or 4 pcs of straight pipe sections labeled A,BCD that snap together. It looks , by the length , to be a section of pipe. The pipe is doubled when it's snapped in place on ends making it a lot stranger than the rest

this is is the responsibility of the filler he's used too much psi in his hose. the sides on these bow drastically in towards center and as they fill the water pressure pushes the side out to square. Most filler companies have an attachment to redirect the water away from the side towards the center of directly down.

The ground certainly had the normal 2-3% gradient. This was not compensated for at the pool. Accordingly, there was a concentration of forces and that caused the frames to collapse.

This is a shame. I bought one of these pools and wasn’t sure whether to use my water hose or be cheaper to have it filled. When I called a company they told me if it is one of the intex pools or anything like it they cannot fill it because of liability and they had some collapse which is why they do not service those pools anymore. My pool is just 16’x 48” and only took one day to fill up

I’m not saying this to be an ass ok but in the directions it says to fill with a garden hose not to truck in water. I’ll explain why as the pool is filling u have to have time to push the legs out . What happen is it filled to fast and the legs had pressure pushing them from the middle that’s why they buckled and collapsed . Always fill above ground pools slowly , I’m sorry this happen to u I can imagine how you must have felt when that happen.

Been running metal frame pools for about eight years now. They're super sturdy when installed according to the instructions. You need firm, packed, level ground, and the legs need to be plumb. The buckled legs in this video show that the ground was too soft or the legs were not plumb (possibly both). Please don't blame the pool, Karen -- it isn't a manufacturing defect. Consider excavating a few inches of that soft ground and bring in a truckload or two of stone dust, leveling and packing it tight before attempting another pool installation. Looks like a great spot for a pool once you've got the bugs worked out.

thanks for the video. Yes, perhaps the pool was filled with water too quickly, although I agree that the supports on the side were pressed against the paving slabs and when the pool began to expand when filling, the sides rested against the frame and bent. спасибо для видео. Да, возможно бассейн слишком быстро заполнили водой, хотя я согласен с тем, что опоры сбоку были уперты в тротуарную плитки и когда бассейн начал расширяться при заполнении, то борта уперлись в каркас и согнули .

Those types of soft side pools with structural "legs" will collapse when the legs on any one side are not far enough out at the bottom, and the pool is being filled too quickly. They should be filled by garden hose so you can watch the sides and pull out the legs at the bottom if needed, when and If the pool side is pushing against them near the middle. The pool water person should know these things anyway, and fill the pool more slowly, and all connections checked before any filling goes on. Send it back, get another pool, and make the water people fill it for free - SLOWLY. Your yard can be cleaned up.

Our 33’ intex has lasted for 5 years here in FL. Just replaced the cheap filter/pump with a Hayward pump/filter. If I had to guess, this was not a structural failure due to product quality, but the fault of whoever set it up not leveling the ground first, leading to more water pressing on one side of the pool. I work on pools for a living, and I own an intex......I can get a 18’ for 250 bucks. At that price, I’m happy to use it for 5 years, upgrade the pump/filter for 300 and replace it when the liner/frame wears out.

@@Laineyslife sorry but that's just not correct. I really hate that happened to you, and we all make mistakes, but if we don't learn from them we'll repeat them. THAT would really be bad, for you to go through aaaaaall that's involved with the clean up, warranties, reassembly, new set up, refill ....and then have the same dang thing happen again because you think the sole reason for failure was on a faulty pool component. Slower filling, adjusting the supports so they are not over strained by pressure from expanding soft sides, and regular monitoring monitoring for any stress points, weak spots, anything going wrong, coming loose, needing adjusted etc .... THAT'S what will prevent it happening again. And the filling has got to be slow enough to give you time to do all that properly.

I feel for this person, so disappointing when something goes catastrophically wrong. I hope you were able to replace the frame and refill it. I've had intex pools for years, several different types/sizes/shapes. My favorite is round easy set, because it adjusts better to changes in environment, but Florida sun rots the inflated ring at the top after a couple years so now I'm on my third round ultra frame (The first 16' uf was too small, second one 18'x48" I had a drainage problem with the yard and the feet rusted, third one 22'x52" I found on sale for less than the cost of 18 replacement legs). All of them, you have to allow for movement, they're basically a big bag of water and will shift. They also stretch as they fill, so the legs splay outward a bit, and they don't end up the same place as where you started by at least a couple inches on all sides. If you trap the legs they will bend - they're designed for vertical pressure, not so much horizontal. It's also important to fill SLOWLY so the legs can actually shift rather than binding and thus bending.

I believe one of the problems is that new oval "Ultra frame" pole design. I replaced my old Intex pool with a Coleman one. Right away I noticed how much lighter and thinner the oval poles were compared to the round Intex ones and some of the Coleman ones were already dented which showed me the potential for collapse. Thank goodness I saved my old pool frame. I decided to chuck the Coleman frame and use the much sturdier Intex frame with the Coleman pool. I just didn't trust those lightweight frame parts, they didn't seem sturdy enough and I expected them to bend just like the ones in your video. I have an 18'x48" round pool. I hope the liner is a better quality than the frame that came with it. Coleman pools are made by Bestway. But Intex also has pools with that oval ultra frame design. Many reviews say those rust very quickly. I would recommend finding one of the older designs with the heavy duty round poles.

this was my comment to Laineyslife. (No you have to use a water hose, cause water trucks basically.. They put so much stress on the pool that it cant adjust quick enough to fit the needs to be safe without collapsing. Hence, your issue. A water hose will fill it VERY slow which gives the pool time to adjust properly & you have to pull out the legs & put them on 10-15 Inch brick slabs for proper balance and weight. i've put in pools with my family before so i know the proper way to install one
