How to Fix an Unlevel Above Ground Pool

Some of the support post on our Coleman 22 ft above ground pool started to sink. So today I am going to figure out how to fix and unlevel above ground pool before it collapses. I used a floor jack and a contraption I made to raise the sinking post back up and relevel the pool.

I have a 26ft. Had to take it down and level the ground. Then had a couple legs slide off the stones. Drained about 1/3 of the water, jacked up the pool and fixed each one. Take the time do this if you need it, it works and it will help your pool last!
@rhynoelee5633

I built the tool. Worked great. However, when I jacked the pool up, the weight of the water caused tears and tiny holes to happen at the bottom seam. Our pool is now ruined. Tip: drain pool half way! The weight of the water causes extreme stress on the apron seam.

Exactly my worry and you just confirmed it so I am going to chance it for this summer and try to level better next spring.

I would say a full drain is smarter. Not worth the risk. Unless you are on metered water and a half a pool of water costs you more than the cost of a new replacement liner...

I dont think this actually levels the pool...just stretches the liner to make it look level. You have to add material below the pool to make it level.

We had very full pool that is 3 yrs old and did it. No tears No anything except a level pool! We went very slow and careful. How old was your pool? Man ours worked like a charm! My husband built the wood thing. My son is a mechanic so he had the large Jack. Used precut stones my neighbor was throwing away from an in ground pool they are building. Worked amazing!!! My pool is a 18’ Coleman with portholes (which I sealed up with jbWeld). Can’t believe how well this worked. We all are just so grateful.

OMG! We have had about 5 pools like this over the last 6 years. No matter what we do we can't seem to keep it level and having the same issue as you. We just got a new one this weekend, leveled the ground with leveling sand, packed it all in, made sure it was level all the way across with a leveler and all was even when the water started going in. Water filled up fast and halfway through the damn poles were sinking. Looked like a rollercoaster track! So now going to get the stone like you did for each leg. I think that will help. We have tried similar to your technique in the past, but the board you made to help lift it with the jack from the top seems very helpful. I knew someone had to have been going through what we are. Thank you for sharing, this will be helpful if it starts to sink again after we try and reset this thing and put the stone under the legs.

@cld0410
@cld0410 17 дней назад
From one creative person to another.. wanted to get your opinion on this method. I haven’t done it yet but have the contraption built. I’ve read concerns regarding the seam. If while slowly jacking the pole, someone else was wedging foam or a pool noodle between the seam and the ground, do you think that would help support/possibly prevent some of the stress on the seam?
@hdunaway110
@hdunaway110 17 дней назад
@@cld0410 i’ve never had any issues with the seam of the lining in any of my above ground pools. I would be concerned that that would make the pool liner rest in a way that it wasn’t built to and possibly putting additional stress on it. You can try it, but that just seems like a lot of work because you’re gonna have to get a pretty large gap to be able to wear anything. Also something to consider is the foam is going to get weatherworn pretty quickly and probably won’t last more than two summers maybe. If one side is in the sun more than the other, the foam will probably deteriorate at a different rate.

@sharonwaterbury4978
@sharonwaterbury4978 2 года назад
Thank you, great video, we put a small amount of water about 1/3 in the pool to let it start to settle, we checked the level of the pool, it was off maybe an inch or so on one side, we had placed pavers 4x4x2 under the legs before starting to fill, most pavers were level to the the ground edge, we filled the pool more and waited for it to settle more but could still move the legs. We then dug a couple of pavers lower into the ground where one side was higher, we added most of the water and checked the level and it was right on. Checked the level a week later and it was perfect. Just be sure the vertical posts are level and not bowing in or out. Take your time, and remember how much 6000 gallons of water weighs!

I understand your frustration- I was watching your video for the purpose of helping myself. I've watched several different types of different backyard ideas and I was thinking maybe you could try using firefome retardant foam filler to help separate the pool from the concrete. It would not completely solve the problem but it might ease the pressure of the concrete wear and tear verses hard foam wear and tear. See below a2 photos of the product I am talking about. I use it for all kinda stuff. Good luck and thank you for your info.

When I put mine in 5 years ago, I was going to build it up on sand.. But researched it and ended up digging everything out to level virgin dirt, added a thin coat of sand, rolled it with a sod roller and then put the pool up as level as possible.. Had to hand dig out 14 inches on the highside for a 26x52 it's not perfect but it's still standing and super glad I went through the extra steps.. All the weight of that water will pickup every crease or shoe print in the sand after the pool is filled.. It turned out great..

The instructions say to level the area as best as possible, with that being said I don’t think a couple of inches at the bottom will affect the pool that much. If it were me, I’d just level the frame and leave it at that, but I have no idea if that is what you are “suppose” to do.

I used 4 48” 2x4 and 3 pavers. one board and paver on each pole next to the one I’m adjusting. 2 boards on the one I’m lifting with alternating with a rubber mallet to slowly raise the height and not strain the pool in only one location

could this be done on a steel frame wall pool with a bottom rail that hooks into the uprights??

Use cement pavers under each pole.

i tried just that,,, the pool rubbed on the cement paver and made a hole in the side of the pool.... bets way was to create a tamped solid base extending out 2 feet past all side of the pool, then landscape fabric, (the good kind)

Can you tell me how you made that wood frame for your jack or make a video of how you made that please

I made them quickly. 😂 in all honesty I didn’t really have a plan, I just knew what I wanted them to do. It was just a couple of scrap 2x3 boards nailed together then I put arms on them to be able to reach in around the support post and lift it.

This year i decided to counter sink 12x12x1 inch blocks in the ground level with our pool circle. It did however create a bigger slope on one side as it is a bit low but only in two spots. Since its an adult only pool, yes we have zero kids, we feel confident that this year will be okay but i will have to raise these blocks up about an inch or so. It is slightly off from last year due to natural ground erosion through the off months. I wanted to try this approach but given this liner is on its 4th year and patched all over i cant risk the stress on the liner at this point. Great idea though

I have a round 10'x30" above ground Intex and I discovered a sharp edge protruding at the bottom of the pool. It's probably a small rock but I dont want it to break the liner. Is there a way to push that rock back into the dirt without breaking the pool or do I have to drain the pool just because of that rock? It's no more than 2 feet in from the edge so I was wondering if using a jack can help to lift it enough to stick my hand in there to shove the rock in or take it out Thank you for any help provided

That’s rough. We had the same issue with our previous pool. There were a few sharp rocks that were very uncomfortable when we were walking around in the pool. I don’t know a good way to get to the rock other than draining the pool. We put a couple inches of sand down as a base under this one and it’s a lot more comfortable.

I have that same pool, but the connecting T-joints on top are plastic. Yours are metal. I wonder if they would break if I try this?

I would imagine that it would be ok considering the same or close to the same pressure is being pushed down on it. The metal is actually pretty thin and flimsy, but when it’s all together it seems to support itself. Best of luck!
