Trash video. It's like critiquing a Ferrari and saying things like, it's too small and can't fit 5 people in it, I can't fit any Ikea furniture in it, it's too low to the ground. There is zero context for any of these comments. Most of these comments will also apply to every other lightweight tent on the market.

I had high hopes for this video, especially considering the enticing thumbnail. I anticipated a thorough revisit of the tent, complete with physical demonstrations of the issues you've encountered. After all, it was your original video on the tent that led me to purchase the X-mid 2, which has quickly become my favorite tent. While I acknowledge the large footprint and learning curve in pitching the tent, the overall tone and message of the first 10 min of this video seem somewhat off-putting. 😬

@@joshlarue2838You were about to blow my mind, but after a little research it’s not quite what you think. The Seek Outside Guardian is only 29oz without a nest (which is the mesh netting and floor), stakes, and ropes. If you add the nest to the purchase it’s well over $500. With the stakes, ropes, and nest the weight is 62oz or 3.87 pounds.

@diversie509 7 месяцев назад
Right? Like the regular tent is double walled with excellent room between the mesh and fly. I also don't know how so many people have trouble getting it up with 4 stakes. Its also insanely cheap for the regular version compared to anything comparable lol. But everybody has their own gripes with different things I suppose.
@ryan92084
@ryan92084 7 месяцев назад
yep both the single wall and expense complaints are gone by going with the standard xmid over the pro. Also DCF fly is in development as we speak for those that absolutely need DCF in their life. Most of the rest are lack of experience/skinny pitch knowledge and them just being tall.

What defines single wall or double wall? Is it a minimum amount of space between the two walls or mesh and wall? Because many “single wall” tents have mesh and a fly as well. Many of which the mesh and fly don’t touch each other at all.

Yep thank you for saying this. The Xmid is exceedingly easy to set up compared to almost any other tent I've seen either set up. Only well pitched on even ground? By what metric does that make sense. Its literally pulled taut with adjustable height poles and adjustable lines. Also pick better spots if you are having an issue. Oh golly jee a single wall tent has more condensation?? Who would have thunk it.

I don't have the Pro version, so I don't recognise a few of the problems they talk about. It have excellent moisture management (although no tent will ever be completely dry every night) and easy to pitch tight. But of course, no tent is perfect, every tent has it's trade offs. Hands down, my Durston tent is the best tent I have owned, for it's weight and for winter camping! In all other areas, I have tents that is comparable. But it's still an excellent tent in most circumstances.

alrighty. I can't help but be a little offended for Dan and all of us Canadians. All joking aside, a lot of these issues are the same for EVERY single wall tent. This was designed to work in the bad weather conditions in the Canadian Rockies and is likely the only Dynema Trekking Pole tent that will stand up to our crazy weather. It is why the X-mid is my go to but I am willing to change my mind if I ever find a better one. Do you guys know of a better and cheaper trekking pole Dyneema tent that stands up to wind just as well? Come out here and I will take you on a trip so we can test it out :)

So…what I’m hearing is you all don’t like one-person single wall tents. Only seemingly valid complaint is the footprint. Otherwise it seems a little directly targeted on Durston when what you all are really saying is you prefer to use a double-wall, 1.5/2 person tent and not worry about the weight savings the X-mid pro provides. What other ultralight single-wall one person tent do you find to be better? (Ps TOTAL CLICK-BAIT TITLE 🤣)
@907-q7u
@907-q7u 7 месяцев назад
Nah, none of the complaints were even remotely valid. Becker owns/owned the Pro 2, he could have had Emmitt draw an outline of the footprint based on the measurements Durston provided on the website and realized it wasn't going to work out before making the Pro 1 purchase, but instead, he bought the Pro 1, used it to boost his channel, gained ad revenue then bashed the tent he helped promote. "Yeah, I'm trying to be nice, right now." then Becker immediately cuts away for an upbeat ad commercial for OnX to edit the rant. 😂

Good discussion gentlemen. I have the XMid Pro 2 (original version) and for me it is great solo tent. There are a few quirks with it and I do find my ZPacks Atlaplex easier and faster to set up, I use the ZPacks when I know my sites could be tight for space, but the Xmid has more room. Both companies make excellent tents and it comes down to what you like and need.

I found a used in mint condition 2005 TheNorthFace Bug 33…it’s not the lightest but I’m 6’ with a long torso. It was marketed as lots of headroom and it’s a dream come true.

I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot about backpacking, new brands and legacy brands that I had previously dismissed that have upped their game. Your self effacing sense of humor is entertaining and makes the hobby more approachable. I don’t take all this social media stuff very seriously and rarely post a comment but I do enjoy your videos.

Im disappointed that the XMid isn't made from golden yarn from Rumplestilsken himself, and disappointed that Dan isn't utilizing the latest UFO reality distortion field technology to make the interior of the xmid1 as large as a Buccees inside. 🤣 Geez Dan, talking about some 1st World problems here. LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣

Wow. Dan Durston got caught in the middle of these two trying to reconcile Becker's butt-hurt feelings about last-year's Grand-Canyon trip. Need an interpreter? "Durston's footprint is too big." Interpretation: 'You were a professional-guide, how could you not see as I almost died?' "Durston's pitch is too difficult." Interpretation: 'You're the great backpacking RU-vid-guru, why is it my job to babysit you?' On-and-on, with Durston taking the brunt of it. Why don't you two girls go see a relationship counselor and leave poor Dan Durston out of it?

There is word of a DCF double wall version coming out soon. IDK why they didn't start with that. I know they're part of the whole grams race, but an even lighter version of their ridiculously popular double wall design, also giving option to put up or even take JUST the DCF fly without the inner. it would be so much more versatile. but again hopefully going to be one soon!!!!

I would like to see a video on how to protect food in a lightweight manner when bears aren't a factor. How do you keep the trash pandas away without a $100 bear canister?

I don't like any of the true single wall tents due to condensation. I like the standard X-Mid 2, I like having the inner component... it's a touch warmer too ... less wind. I'm a big fan 😊

Water filters: I am usually backpacking with one or more other folks and I use the Gravityworks "dirty" and "clean" bag system but replaced the actual filter with the Sawyer. The bags are great as you said you just take the bag to the river/lake and scoop the water and then take back to the camp. We always have an abundance of water which is great for cooking, washing up etc and can fill all of our Smartwater bottles in one go. The sawyer filter with the syringe rarely clogs unlike the Gravityworks one.

Going to look into that mystery ranch backpack, my husband and I carry heavy packs because we backpack with a 6 yr old and a dog, our packs can weigh anywhere from 35 lbs to 55lbs, my husband usually carries the heavier one, extra support for that weight would be good!

I love gear. I would love to have bunches of it... just to have and look at. I would love to have this tent. However, I'm practical. My 2p Copper Spur serves me well. As I age, I don't really do bunches of miles. Comfort, ease of use, and reliability rule my choices. Weight not really a big issue for me. Thanks for the share! 👴 Gotta have my inflatable lumin??? light. Had it for years and still going strong.
