I'd like to point out another thing about the different stories about the length of time it took Jack to get sober. Jack might have made the decision to quit drinking three years prior, but only managed to completely abstain from alcohol for the last five months. One thing alcoholics will do is leave out little "Breaks" they take in their path to sobriety when calculating the amount of time it took to get sober. Sometimes they'll have "Cheat days" where they don't consider that day to count, or they'll leave out "A little nip here and there". His wife on the other hand is probably keeping more precise track of the times he's consumed alcohol and only considering the last time he's had any to be the actual beginning of his sobriety. Jack may have decided to go sober three years ago, but he might have had little bumps in the road now and again where he had a sip here and there and is just willfully leaving them out because he doesn't think it detracts from his overall sobriety. His wife probably doesn't feel the same way. Stephen King is a recovering alcoholic, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional.

That’s why when I talk about getting clean, I say I fell out of active addiction in 2016, I never relapsed but I did use. Relapse and slips are different, but active addiction and slips are also different. Using once in awhile isn’t active addiction, active addiction was the year I used every day constantly. So, I make sure it’s known that I didn’t fully get clean for a long while after getting out of active addiction.

Jack being unstable is a theme of the story, the book gives way more detail. His father was an alcoholic, leading to a poor upbringing and ultimately Jack becoming an alcoholic with a track record of uncontrollable anger leading him to break his son's arm and occasionally abuse his wife. It's why the book is considered one of King's greats: the hotel is haunted, but also acts as a metaphor for depression and negativity. Jack would not have tried to kill Danny and Wendy if his life were good. But poor upbringing combined with anger management issues and just piss poor luck (lost his job as a professor, can't get anywhere with his novel) just...made Jack a dull boy. Jack being able to try writing his story is actually commonplace in a lot of writers: change of scenery and living conditions can help them get through a block. At the start Jack is feeling better than he has in a while, and acts as a way better husband and father. Eventually the negativity gets to him again and he deteriorates.

I remember when Cinema Sins was something funny and Unique. In their earlier Work they would point out legitimate flubs and the Videos would be 3-5 Minutes. Problem is Jeremy was told to beef up the Content and you end up with 18-20 Minutes of Videos with mostly Filler "Flubs" to beef up the Sins Count And im also Black and grew up in a Black Household......Yea We had plenty of Kool Aid in the House, as did many of the Kids I grew up with. A cost efficent way to have Fruit Punch in the House. We were lucky to have the big pack w/ the Sugar Mixed in. And Jeremy is from Pittsburgh. Paused at you explaining that it's a 45 minute trip to say that that's addressed almost immediately in the book. When they were telling Jack that the roads were plowed in clearer conditions, that they had their own plow if he had to do it, and the hotel had a helipad, he commented that it didn't seem that isolated, and the owner shot back "Imagine if you, your wife, or your son slipped on the stairs and fractured their skull. Does it still seem 'not so isolated' then?". This was literally- LITERALLY in the first five pages of the book, to set up how helpless he would have been in an emergency. Jeremy would know this if he knew how to read, but he was probably on a high from realizing the Stanley Hotel real-life hedge maze at the time is so small, it's basically just a decoration you can walk in. A toddler couldn't get lost in that thing. That's why they didn't film the side it was on, even though it is a legit sin no one painted in the maze from the climax.

warzone 42 honestly I read the book and watched the DS movie and I preferred the movie for its ending. In the book the Overlook Hotel was blown up in The Shining, so in Doctor Sleep the Hotel was just the foundations with the rest not blowing up. But in the movie whenever Danny’s going through the Hotel and it’s LITERALLY coming back to life just from vampiring off of Danny and the girl is an amazing scene. And the climax featuring the actual entire hotel instead of a single floor makes it way scarier.

Yea. The thing with the floor design changing is more than likely deliberate by Kubrick. He intentionally designed the interior of the hotel to be impossible to map out and constantly shifting to disorient the audience. Even the office jack had his interview in and the ball room are both impossible to actually be there. Apparently in the original original theatrical release and story board of the film the hotel manager hat gave jack the job was insininuated to be in on it the entire time. He appeared at the end were Danny and Wendy are at the hospital and rolls that same ball at Danny, gives a smirk to the screen then the credits roll

An UnSUb is a little extreme and exactly what birdman didnt want you to do lol you can still be subbed to both. thats like me never eating steak again after having lobster for the first time when in reality they pair well together.... im giving you a youtube SIN for that lol congratulations

I know that Jeremy’s whole thing is that the books don’t matter, but it hurts as a huge fan of Stephen King’s The Shining to watch him say Dick isn’t an important character. Like in the movie he is but in the book he basically steps in as a surrogate father/grandfather for Wendy and Jack. Like my dude left his job in Miami, got on a very dangerous flight, drove up a very dangerous road, got attacked multiple times, and still managed to get Wendy and Danny to safety. He did that both in the movie and the book, just in different ways. And like you pointed out, he literally explained the whole premise of the shine. Normally I just ignore cinemasins bs but what the hell was that sin. Also, as a Coloradan who has spent plenty of time on icy mountain roads, that is a hard drive today, on connected interstates with constant snow plows. Mountain passes are closed all the time due to their conditions. Now imagine a 25 mile drive on a road that is never plowed and is very steep, narrow, and windy. There’s not a chance you are able to go up and down without a snow mobile and even then it would be rough. That’s the whole reason they need a caretaker in the first place and don’t just hire someone from the town to drive up. What was the logic in that sin

Another point to the 5 months/3 years thing: Jack even says to himself that he's been sober for 5 months but he tells Lloyd that he hurt Danny 3 years ago. I dunno what it means but the two different timelines are definitely meant to be noticeable and like a disparity. And ANOTHER point to the money thing: Lloyd explicitly tells Jack "his money won't work here" so even if that money IS real, there is still a supernatural element: bc that's material money and Lloyd is not a material person. And I didn't know about the REDRUM thing meaning Wendy's murder! That's so cool!

Thanks for doing this. The only reason I even watched Cinema Sins vs The Shining was out of curious disbelief! And yeah, city of straws in that episode. Seems like Jeremy will sin a movie just so that one of his jokes may work and that helps some of his videos out but in the case of The Shining and a few other classics it just comes off as cheap and annoying. I also must commend you and your swift retaliation. You struck hard, accurately and speedy friend! Keep up the good work

3:33 I think the reason for this is that it was supposed to be a subtle part of the paranormal stuff that is going on, throughout the whole movie, if you pay close attention, the structuring of the hallways and the main hall of the hotel, is physically impossible, wisecrack mentioned it in one of their videos about the movie.

Actually taking Danny to a hospital for visions/hallucinations is literally the opposite of overkill
@Th3Birdman
@Th3Birdman 4 года назад
The problem is we know Danny has an “imaginary friend” so that would be a symptom of whatever “delusion” he has. Of course, we as the audience understand that he has The Shine so we know his visions are real, but we as the audience also understand that practical medicine will not help in this case. So yeah, going to the hospital is redundant, especially when they were able to have a doc come by that easily.

I should point out that the close-up of the Grady daughters-the very still Cinemasins used for their own fucking thumbnail-clearly shows the girls are not twins. They aren't even the same height.

I doubt anyone will see this- but there was so many things that Jeremy could have sinned about this movie; mainly in regards to all the errors that was made in adapting the film which lead to King openly despising it.
