Cuphead is one of the most beautiful, most difficult games I've had the pleasure of experiencing. Normally, I wouldn't be a huge fan of challenging games like this, but it's so brilliantly designed that I still wanted to play after I put it down. And after The Delicious Last Course, I didn't feel like I needed more, it felt like the perfect amount of content for a game. This has certainly become one of my favorite all-time games.
🎮 GAME TIME: 23:43:16 But the time is skewed because of all the times I had to go through each level and boss, not to mention the challenges I underwent with the Divine Relic, Pacifist, and Golden Chalice runs. Without deaths, my time was 05:11:26.

Can we appreciate how this guy actually uses the bosses real names? Like, barely any RU-vidrs ever refer to the bosses, nevermind the mini bosses, by their own names and yet this guy is somehow knows the names of Bon Bon's henchmen, Warner's cat, and all of the casino mini bosses.

Especially since he actually refers to Esther as 'she'. I don't know why, but literally every RU-vidr I've seen refers to her as 'this guy' or 'he', when she's literally a cow named Esther with very visible eyelashes (except for when she's a sausage).

I think the way the imprisoned character in Chef Saltbaker’s fight is decided is by who’s in the Astral Plane. If you’re using Mugman to be Ms. Chalice, it’ll be Mugman in there. If you’re using Cuphead to be Ms. Chalice, it’ll be Cuphead in there. If you’re just using Cuphead or Mugman, it’ll be Ms. Chalice in there.

Honestly, the reason I feel why the DLC is so hard to read attacks is because it was made moreso for people who had already beaten the game and is more of an extra challenge. That's why the bosses are harder. It could also be because it focuses on Ms. Chalice who has 4 HP, a double-jump, and a parry-dash.

Technically I hate to say this but I have to correct you. Ms Chalice is for players who thought the main game was difficult. Also yeah the dlc isn't for players who beat the game already. Why do you think you can access it immediately after clearing a mausoleum? The easy access to the dlc can also be so that players can get all dlc weapons and charms early, instead of having to buy all main weapons and charms first In order to buy dlc weapons and charms. Plus the king's gauntlet is an easy way to get coins. You can also get divine relic pretty early. Again, sorry for correcting you

Well, Saltbaker doesn't just nab Mugman. Depending on who you're using or whether you have the astral cookie equipped, he could take any of the trio. Just letting you know there isn't exactly an answer on who he canonically takes.

I’m guessing he canonically takes chalice bc at the end of fighting him when using chalice, when you finish and get to the cutscene where their saving one of them if it’s not Chalice in the jar, she turns back into the ghost

Thing is, The Mortimer Freeze rolling animation, actually makes a bit of sense. He's basically readying himself into the roll by leaning back and preparing to propel himself forward. I'll give you the hopping one though, that looks NOTHING like he's about to get ready to jump.

That last sin is well-earned. This game is so gorgeous. When I first played it, my sister was watching me. She was so amazed by everything, while I slowly ran into frustration hell with some of the phases and run-and-gun levels. But when I watched my brother play it, I began hating myself for not noticing so many things. From the details in the back, the fluid movement of each animation and the little charming details about every single boss and enemy. It was fascinating to witness. Damn, this game is so good :3

I like how Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice are pointing out their roles in the story by the number of fingers they're showing in the thumbnail. @D.E.M.O.N.S That still doesn't work, because Chalice isn't the third player... And it can't be the order they were added cause Mugman and Cuphead were added at the same time. Can't be relevance to the story, because Mugman has none, outside of telling Cuphead "no", and then being held captive in the DLC. Relevance to the franchise _maybe_, but I doubt Chalice (who was added on her own) is less known than the default character for a second player that most people didn't have.

2:44 Actually, yeah! Phase 3 represents the four bosses of SF2. Tiger is Sagat, bull is Vega, Snake is Bison and the slot machine itself is Balrog. Pretty cool stuff

Correction: Ribby & Croaks wearing boxing gloves and the slot machine references Balrog and his gambling problem the snakes represent Vega because of the snake tattoo on his body the tigers references Sagat and his Tiger Shot and Tiger Uppercut moves and M.Bison is represented by the bulls

Fun Fact: Due to the addition to Grim Matchstick fight in expert mode that makes the clouds go the opposite way, Grim, though his attacks are more complicated and harder, is EASIER on expert mode if you use the charge shot.

It gets harder when you are trying to S rank it like I am. Gotta get three parries, use 6 cards (super meter) get a good skill level, not getting hit ONCE AND BEAT THE BOSS QUICKLY.

I really like this more genuine Everything wrong with. I like how the skits and jokes are slightly more far between. Whenever one comes up it’s really funny. They’re also less in your face, so you laugh at his commentary and still learn about the game. Chariii5 would be very good at being a teacher. _Ding_

40:33 I always assumed that Chef Saltbaker *couldn't* access the astral plane, and the reason that he was able to get Mugman's soul (He can also trap Cuphead's or Chalice's depending on who you play) is because the other two would be busy. If Chalice is in battle, she's probably pretty distracted by whatever boss she's fighting, and if Cuphead is the one taking a bite out of the astral cookie then he would be in the astral plane, making him powerless to do much even if he *did* catch Saltbaker stealing his brother's soul (But he probably wouldn't even be watching considering he disappears into the astral plane after becoming a ghost and doesn't stick around for the rest of each fight). So with Cup and Chalice occupied, Chef has every opportunity to knock the soul outta Mugsy and drag it back to his cellar (Souls are obviously physical enough to be touched too, considering that you revive your player two by parrying their soul in co-op mode, and if they weren't physical to at least some degree, Mugman could phase through the bell jar and escape immediately). No body is left behind when the cups are reduced to ghosts, so there wouldn't be any evidence either. Probably the only thing the other two would notice is that Mugman is mysteriously missing, but they could just assume he went off to grab another ingredient on his own. After all, you don't *need* more than one person to beat the bosses. Sure Chef Saltbaker might be liked enough that others would be willing to bring him the ingredients, but no matter how much the rest of the isle inhabitants love him, they're probably not going to answer a request for their soul with a cheerful "Yeah, sure, take it!" He can afford to be honest about all but *one* of the ingredients needed. Nobody's going to just let him take their soul if he asks with a "pretty please with a cherry on top?". But a wondertart without a living soul is just a fruit tart. (This isn't a criticism of your sins btw, I have a bad habit of going on tangents when I'm over-analyzing something and only just realized how much I typed lmao.)

That final sin is so insanely true, and it makes me record my fights JUST so I can watch them again because animation is something I love so much. ESPECIALLY when it has this much love and care put into it. As for my favorite animation, its a tough pick but when Chef Saltbaker picks you up and changes between phases 1&2, the animation is so fluid and clean. and the finger snap to summon the shakers is just amazing

The Cursed/Divine Relic challenge is a LOT easier if you do the plane fights. The relic doesn’t limit your mini-plane so you don’t have to worry about losing invincibility and since you only have 2 weapons so cycling to a specific weapon isn’t really an issue.

This game is truly something special. It pays tribute to classic rubber hose animation and has some of the best music and visuals I’ve ever seen in a video game period and I’ve played breath of the freaking wild. Every boss is animated beautifully (especially salt baker) and every little detail and effort goes into the fights. I love this game so much and I’m happy you enjoyed this game as well Charii!

The chef Saltbaker’s fight is way better than the devil, i love the contrast between his harmless and corrupted sides, how he chopped the ingredients you brought to him and use it against you. He didn’t give his bad side right away. I do think that elder Kettle survived from the same fate before, it may explain why he showed no hesitation to help the brothers fighting the devil. It’s just what i think about him.

I really like Cuphead, though I've never played it, because it's a game that the designers genuinely wanted to work on. They got holidays and breaks and they were able to make a game that now has a Netflix series. It's very inspirational.

34:17 fun fact about this: if your able to beat the pawns and the knight first try, you get access to the bishop without needing to find another ladder, and this applies to the rest of the kings bosses. If you do it first try, you can beat all of the kings bosses (minus the gauntlet) with only one ladder Edit: by first try, I mean without dying

The fireballs in Grim Matchstick's final phase aren't even meant to function the way they do. They're meant to split into only two directions instead of four, but due to a bug, they split into four every time. So technically, the fight is meant to be ever so slightly easier.

9:42 the reason you parried the pink balloon and took damage is because Cuphead/Mugman/Chalice is coded in a way that causes him to do a little bounce up whenever they parried . When you parried, you were in the wrong position and got hit by the balloon the moment you parried. This also applies to the pink/white balls in the fight with Rumor Honeybottoms. Also, if the object is coded to despawn when parried, this issue won't occur. I hope this helps 👍👍👍

Mortimer freeze's attack that you are having trouble with does make sense. Imagine trying to slingshot your body forward with your arms. Now image your as bouncy as he is. If you throw yourself at the ground, you will bounce. All you can really do is fling yourself forward like that. You dont throw a bowling ball down to bowl, you throw if forward by swinging your hand back and then forward to release it.

I genuinely love this video, and honestly mirrored a lot of thoughts I had in the game. I played with Chalace the entire time when my friend told you you can get her right at the start, so my playthrough was different. The changes for chalace are so interesting, I knew that KD's card attack had extended hitboxes for Chalace, allowing you to hit above them to parry... But I never noticed that it had an indicator! I also didn't have an issue with knowing to parry the tongue because I specifically noticed that *any* pink can be parried. Every time I tested that I had a dumb smile on my face. Just like "This won't be a parr- Oh my god!"

when he mentioned that some of matchsticks fireballs have weird frames it reminded me of a fact I heard about how originally some fireballs were designed to be shot straight instead of zig-zag and it's possible the change is why the frames are awkward also fun fact his flame bubbles in the final phase are actually glitched as they aren't actually supposed to split in 4 directions and were actually supposed split into up down or left to right but due bad coding both happen at once and I guess they were satisfied with how it turned out cause it wasn't fixed even after updates.

37:10 while it could catch you off, the animation for the roll attack does lead me to believe he’s gearing up for a roll. And while the air attack could be misleading, it looks like he’s planning to *bounce.* But I totally get how you could see them as the opposite attacks.

Cuphead is such a Masterpiece and one of the most well known Indie Games ever made! It's Challenge is very unique for everyone experiencing this game. All the Bosses/ Levels are super creative and fun. It's always interesting to see what people think of the bosses in this game, because opinions of certain bosses vary wildly, and that's just down to someone's certain shots and charms. For example, I almost always stuck with the Chaser and the Spread, the former being used when I'm overwhelmed by attack, and the latter for when I can get an uninterrupted hit on the boss (Although in the DLC I did trade the chaser for the crackshot). I also usually try to get through the first phase of a fight without taking any damage, to the point where I almost always just restarted the fight after I took a hit. The boss I struggled with the most were probably Djimmi the Great, Grim Matchstick, Rumor HoneyBottoms, and, Dr. Kahl's Robot. Most of the other bosses we're either pretty easy such as Werner Werman or Sally Stageplay, or pretty difficult, but a lot of fun, like Cala Maria and both final bosses.

The funny thing is, Mangosteen being an easy boss in the middle of a gauntlet is ITSELF a reference to the Melonbread boss from Gunstar heroes (which the entire dice palace thing is a homage to that stage in Gunstar Heroes) who was essentially a 'two eyes and big teeth'. If you got lucky you'd end up with Melonbread as one of the bosses you had to fight who was piss easy and essentially a 'free win'.

Your reaction to Grim Matchstick is pretty similar to mine. I was loving this game when it came out, but he was the first and really only boss that actually pissed me off. The trick is to use lobber on the last phase because it can take him down so quickly.

That last statement sums up my entire feeling on this game. I remember when it was in development, described as a passion project with an immensely long development cycle by a small indie studio that loved old hand-drawn animation, and then when it came out, I found myself thinking... They had the entire field of game genres to go with, and they went with a bullet hell of all things, the one genre that WOULDN'T let players appreciate the animation!

Fun fact during the sarcophagus level if you have the bombs, you can just stay on the top of the screen and fire the bombs you will almost never get hit by the eyeballs and the bombs are capable of one shoting the mummies that are able to hit you

40:23 what actually happened is that, because you used mugman as player 1, while also having the cookie equipped, that meant that saltbaker had kidnapped mugman. now if you had chosen to be CUPHEAD instead while still having the cookie equipped, then yeah saltbaker would've kidnapped cuphead instead of mugman. ms chalice is kidnapped if you choose to not have the cookie equipped regardless of who you choose to be player 1 in short, if you have the cookie equipped, then chef saltbaker kidnaps whoever it is that equipped that cookie

For your point about the snowman's rolling attack I thought each animation made perfect sense. For the forward roll he is preparing to launch forward using that speed to roll. For the jump he is preparing to bounce off the ground and launch into the air. I don't really see the problem with those animations.

With the snowman's roll attack, what's going on is, when he wants to roll, he tilts back and pushes himself forward like a wheel. When he jumps, he slams himself into the ground to bounce.

A Missed sin: After leaving the 1st die house, Elder Kettle doesn't even tell us what that way out even IS. In fact I don't think he even shows up again until the ending cutscene, We just refuse to give the devil the contracts and beat him to a pulp. The way it's set up sounds like we need a special trick or item to even stand a chance against the devil, But no, We just beat the snot out of him like everyone else.

Hilda Burg constellation may actually be a very obscure reference to a boss in "Contra: Hard Corps". In one of the levels you fight a portly dude who enacts cyberspace on you and his first form is fight him as constellations, specifically Gemini, Taurus and Sagittarius. She might have meant to have more, but the devs likely decided on those three for the reference possibly.

7:28 tip for this phase: stay at the very top of the screen the whole time and switch to the mini bombs. It's much easier to avoid the mummies and eyeballs, and you are dealing lots of damage this way.

Another Sin: During Captain Brineybeard’s fight, in the final phase, I have a problem with the laser, too, but not for the same reason. The barrel that charges downwards at you from the beginning of the fight is STILL there, and is the exact same. When you realize that you have to crouch, in order to avoid the laser, you can’t move while you’re crouching, The barrel is also indestructible, so sometimes they can fall, while your crouching.

You can still Dash while crouching, just hold down and press Dash. You can also Parry the pink laser

Okay, I commented on this in the Sonic Origins EWW, but I'm gonna say it again, I cannot stress enough how nice it is to hear you say the actual names of every minor enemy, miniboss and boss. I don't know why it matters to me so much, but it makes it feel more like you researched everything possible just to give accurate names, instead of being like every other RU-vid game discussion channel who'll just call them some "hilarious" joke name or act like it's the most outlandish thing they've ever seen. A tip I learned to make this game easier is map the shoot button to one of the triggers, so you can constantly be firing while focusing on platforming for some of the harder stages

My favorite animations had to be Esther Winchester's first transition to her second phase. It looks so satisfying to look at EVERY time I see it. And right underneath that would be the entirety of Mortimer Freeze's second phase. The Snow Golem's movements look so smooth!

Dang didn’t think this would be for that long… I remember playing this game struggling made it to isle 3 and came back when the dlc came out, and some how did very well, I breezed through a lot of the bosses and no not because I used ms chalice. I went through the whole game without her (apart from the parry only bosses) weird how much better I have gotten with the game. All it takes is patience, good practice.
