This whole movie was made with 3 Million. Proves that when the budget is low, it forces the movie makers to be very creative. You can barely tell in this movie. I wish more movies were like this.
This movie was a fun watch. The fact that the spinning camera sync was done using a phone taped to the stuntman chest and using its accelerometer was really clever
Yeah, some super cool and innovative action. I also thought that the main guys acting during the fighting was great. Super fun watching his body be super mechanical and precise while his face just looks horrified at what is going on.
Fun Fact: During the fight scenes, the camera often tracks Grey so that he remains in the middle of frame. According to director Leigh Whannell, this was achieved by hiding a phone somewhere on actor Logan Marshall-Green, which the cameras could then pair to and follow with as much accuracy as possible.
I cannot express how long I’ve waited for this sins video. This is one of my favorite underrated movies. A bit cliche and corny at times but really cool
13:48 i know jeremy just glosses this scene over in this video, but I do wanna point out the kill scene for one of Fisk's companions. they only had 2 fake heads made for this film and the first one malfunctioned, but thankfully, their second fake head explosion wounded up going off without a hitch, and we got what is probably the most gory-ious (which is a word play of gory and glorious) kill in the film. and that alone deserves a sin off. hell, this kill was so bloody spectacular, it even gotten the golden chainsaw from dead meat james when he covered this film, which is gotta be a lustrious honor.
Why bother making a portmanteau if you're just going to explain what two words you used in a full extra sentence? I'm genuinely curious why such an obvious combination needed explanation, and if you were going to type them out in another sentence anyway, why bother creating it in the first place?
@@Lreclusa bc some re-re would call him out for misspelling glorious or ask what it means. There's a lot of special people in the comments and sometimes you have to take it to toddler level. He thought he was funny and clever for coming up with that and wanted to include it but also explain it just in case. Not sure why it's an issue for you
1:29 "Can't lives on won't street" is a very literal translation of a slightly old-fashioned german saying ("Ich-kann-nicht wohnt in der ich-will-nicht-Straße."). Have never heard it used in english though.
The thing about this movie that all these years later I find insane is that the main actor Logan Marshall-Green has not been in anything of note since this movie came out. He's a good actor and was in other films like Spider-Man Homecoming and Prometheus before that. I am not sure where he went all these years later.
2:09 why is it so necessary to have big actors? That’s part of why I love this movie so much, it’s incredible without having to slap a big name on it, and it gives these actors a chance

I was watching _Madame Web_ yesterday, and thinking "what's with with constant spinning camera?! You're not Leigh Whannell!". Sure enough, a vid about a Leigh Whannell film plops into my subs box a day later. Also, this film was originally called _STEM_ , but there were concerns about it being a spoiler, so it got changed to _Upgrade_ .
@@zerolegacy7821 yup, with my partner. Mutual agreement, by the way - it was more of a "going for the trainwreck factor" watch than an "I genuinely want to watch this" watch.
Even if the protagonist was touching the guy being shocked, it would not mean he himself should be shocked: his back was against the wall and his feet were above the ground, while the other guy was connecting to ground. Assuming that the resistance of the wall was way more that the resistance of the pavement, it is actually reasonable that the protagonist wasn't cooked alive. (Yeah I know, but let me exercise the great powers of my engineering degree by commenting on youtube)
@@rumbazumba3189 I didn't see the film, so I don't know how Stem would work, you might be right. But consider that the human body is very much resistive and he isn't in contact with conductive surfaces, so the only "feasible" current he would be subjected to would be due to the nature of AC currents. This current would then be due to the capacitance of his body, but again, he is in midair so that not much current could flow and the path of least resistance is still the other guy. If Stem is designed right, it should be able to tolerate even milliamps of currents, which clearly weren't running in the protagonist's body, otherwise he would be bacon
I still see a good ending: the AI got what it wanted and he went in the matrix and proceeded to have a perfect happy life thinking he just had a nightmare...could have been a lot worse.....
My uncle was a quadriplegic nearly all my life and I helped him with several things up until he passed away finally. It had to be a huge release for him to be free of that prison......anyway. He used a stamper with the ink built into it to stamp legal stuff that required his signature. He had to actually be holding the stamp even if I has roboting his arm and holding the back of his hand like a puppeteer? He had nurses for everything but he had me to hook up stereo systems and wire his room with cable TV , weigh out certain extracurricular substances for various friends and associates... hes been dead for a long time. Nearly 20 years i think?. I still miss him when I turn on the stereo...
You can request the police report, but if it's in an ongoing investigation, they tend not to release it until the case is closed, depending on if there is suspicion of culprit. Coroners release full reports to next of kin/legal guardian when their examination is completed. I received my daughter's as soon as her autopsy was completed. The police report I wasn't allowed to have until they caught the pos that killed her, but in my case that only took a day. They wouldn't give me any information at all until they got a confession from her uncle first though. They didn't even tell me there was foul play when I was told she was missing(mother and I were split up and I lived 5 states away). I drove straight there under the assumption she had run away. I didn't find out what actually had happened until I got there, and I had to go to my local police station to verify I hadn't driven up there and taken her and brought her back to live with me before I could even leave town.
Between this and The Invisible Man remake, one of my favorite modern filmmakers (directors, cinematographers, editors, etc.) are Leigh Whannell (who I already loved from his early horror work), Stefan Duscio, and Andy Canny. Just really solid creative work with low budget horror sci-fi!
My grandma used to sing me a little song when I said "I can't". It goes like this. Cant and wont were sitting in a boat, Cant fell out, who's left over? It rhymes in Dutch, so shut up. Anyway yes people do have sayings like that.
That reminds me of the scene in "Mr. Monk and the Airplane" where the little girl dove Monk crazy: Little Girl: Pete and Repeat were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who was left? Adrian Monk: Repeat. Little Girl: Pete and Repeat were in a boat. Pete fell out. Who was left? Adrian Monk: Repeat. ...
8:33 I think with the twist in mind that stem purposely set grey up to be in a near-deadly situation so he could show him his ability to keep him alive and dispose of the people he wants to get revenge on.
This movie is amazing, the action scenes are well shot, the technological implications are exciting, and the governmental implications are horrifying. Everything you could want out of a dystopian cyberpunk style movie
I love near-future-that's-kind-of-plausible sci-fi; it's the best kind of sci-fi. I don't necessarily mean Cyberpunk either. I'm thinking stuff like Minority Report (still one of my favourite Spielberg films).
Here are all the audio outtake clips at the end: 1 (18:24): Back to the Future Part II (Universal Pictures, 1989) 2 (18:28): Joker (Warner Bros., 2019) 3 (18:34): Get Out (Universal Pictures, 2017) 4 (18:48): RoboCop (Orion Pictures, 1987) 5 (18:56): Virtuosity (Paramount Pictures, 1995) 6 (18:59): Seinfeld, "The Stall" (season 5, episode 12; NBC, 6th January 1994) 7 (19:04): Transformers (DreamWorks Pictures, 2007) 8 (19:12): The Matrix (Warner Bros., 1999) 9 (19:18): Open Range (Touchstone Pictures, 2003) 10 (19:19): Locke (A24, 2013) 11 (19:25): The Bourne Identity (Universal Pictures, 2002)
@@tylerbreaves If these guys sinned legit sins instead of just sinning to set jokes up, you'd probably realize it's not near perfect. I agree it's a GREAT film and personally I like it a lot but describing it as near perfect is a bit much man. I wasn't trying to change your opinion, I was just joking with you.
I fell asleep to Migration, and I stIll think it was better than Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. btw You're doing a great job. I hope you're enjoying making these as much as I enjoy watching them.
This movie was pretty good; the way he looks at the cop when him and his mom pull up to the station cracks me up every single time 😂😂 idk why its so funny, but it is lmao
6:50 -- In my jurisdiction, Family members can make a formal request for coroner's records; these may be redacted in part. Police investigation records would not normally be released, however, especially if there is an active and ongoing investigation. As for delivery, it would be sent by courier and someone would have to sign for the package.
Highly suggest sinning the following overlooked animated movies: Charlotte's Web (1973) Wizards (1977) The Hobbit (1977) Heavy Metal (1981) The Last Unicorn (1982) The Flight Of Dragons (1982) The Secret Of NIMH (1982) Fire & Ice (1983) The Adventures Of Mark Twain (1985) An American Tail (1986) Kaena: The Prophecy (2003)
Some of the sins mentioned here make a lot more sense when you consider STEM's true motives. 2:41 That's the point, STEM can't do those things. Yet. 7:27 STEM actually wants Eron to try and shut it down. This way, it can convince Grey to get it hacked and therefore remove the safeguards preventing it from taking over Grey's body. 8:16 Similarly, STEM wants Grey to get caught. Putting Grey in danger means that he will give STEM control and it can murder Serk, cleaning up a potential witness to STEM's overall plan.
Upgrade was pretty good the first time. The second time I watched, less-so but still intriguing and entertaining. The director’s next feature (The Invisible Man) was full of ridiculous plot-holes, implausibilities. Naturally it got far more attention than his under-radar previous effort.
@@rumbazumba3189 Invisible Man also introduced me to Skunk Anansie! Great band. They also have a great song in a movie called strange days.... OH!! Have they done Strange Days yet?
I know this might be a hard pitch, but I really think you guys would have some fun sinning the R.W.B.Y series, it’s made by RoosterTeeth and it’s a anime which is particularly why I think it’ll be a harder pitch since I know you guys don’t really do anime’s, but it’s in English and they are movies rather then tv shows, anyways loved this video regardless!❤ keep up the great stuff
I’m so glad they compared this to Venom. I watched both movies for the first time back to back on accident. Took me a while but I realized how exactly the same they were half way through Upgrade.
