Thank you Autumn for showing the tilt-capability of this trailer. That was more informational than the rest of the video combined! You should just start conducting the whole video yourself. Wow that is one awesome trailer. I added it to my buy list!!
Genius design on the bracket to capture that handle. Also, I appreciate the attention to safety. It only takes a second for something to happen that can be life altering. One of my giant concerns around my farm is kids being somewhere I'm not expecting them. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten out and checked or stopped and asked another adult if they have eyes on my kiddo and her friends.
I have been looking at similar trailers. They Have high speed hubs on the wheels so you could mount trailers tires and pull it behind your vehicle. Lights could be installed on the sides of the trailer body and if you keep the weight under 3000 lbs it would be road legal to use around town no brakes needed. Just a thought.
Nice trailer it would be handy for all kinds of things around the place. I really think the manufacturer should consider putting your safety latch on there . Great idea.
FYI: I called a dealership to get a price, they are over a year out to get this trailer. Wonder how easy it would be to get parts. Now I'm looking at Mutts and the Woodland Multilander.
What a cool addition to any operation! Also love the latch safety mechanism u made. You are becoming my 2nd favorite channel to follow . Yeh I admit Home Town Acres is #1 .
Very cool little trailer! I was thinking when you had the 10'8" logs in there would have been a nice height to cut 20 rounds right off the back of the trailer! Video doing well Doug!
Jack/kickstand would be more useful if you could crank it up like an RV. With a load in the trailer, it might be impossible to lift the hitch off the ball, but with a crank stand, you could raise the hitch off the ball.
I just knew you'd improve this trailer. Very nice safety latch. The company would be crazy not to incorporate this feature into their trailer build. One observation, if you removed the front gate on the tractor and put a long log in, it looks like you'd hit the release mechanism. You might consider shortening the release mechanism's handle so that it lays below the bed of the trailer and anything you put in it, logs or lumber etc. can't accidently release the hitch (your safety device will prevent this), or bend the lever (if it was shorter it would be under the load, and difficult to operate). It appears you were able to dump your logs and they didn't interfere with the lever so the lever may be low enough and not an issue.
You should put on a winche to raise and lover the bed on the trailer. That would be much more secure. Yes it takes a bit longer time to open and close it. But you can also use it to haul the logs on to the trailer with.
Hey Doug. Good idea on the safety mechanism. However, it seems to me like that could rotate forward towards the tow vehicle when bumping around in the woods, or on uneven ground etc. I think I would put that bracket in the closed position, and then drill another hole through the mechanism that you've built, and drill it all the way through the tongue of the trailer, then slide a pin through both the tongue, and your mechanism, with a keeper or cotter pin on it. Just like the one that the jackstand on the trailer has. Then it CAN'T move anywhere until you want it to.
I think a dump angle limiting chain or strap would work great when dumping the logs. That safety cover is a good idea. Keep from giving yourself a prostate check with the handle if you did accidentally bump it. 😮
As usual, you’ve managed to make a good thing better. Honestly, I think the company has little choice now other than to develop their own safety latch as it is clearly an unsafe condition. Should someone now get injured sans such a safety latch, they would probably have some good grounds for a negligence lawsuit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a litigious kind of guy but it’s clearly an unsafe design without a safety pin, latch or device. I think the company should also affix a warning label at the lever. Other than that, it seems like an awesome cart.
I would assume (and I know what that could mean), the tool holder underneath the trailer on what we here would call the "passenger" side would actually be the driver's side in Finland.
DOUG, nice! Explanation on the equipment, it was really informative especially with the performance aspect. The editing and production of your video was done well. I'm sure you'll have a lot of comments about the safety lock you fabricated, which is a great idea! I just don't know WHAT your 'nickname' should be! 1.Freddie Fabricator? 2. Tommy Tinkerer? 3. Dougie Dewright ? Don't matter, you always got 'A BETTER WAY' !! Good Shhtuff!
Doug, nice simple safety solution. Would it be possible to make the safety longer so it acts as a debris cover and safety latch. As dirt and materials land on the greasier sections, the debris cover would assist in deflecting it away from the latch mechanism where the grease attracts the dirt. Just a thought.
I would consider adding an actual lockout function to the dump-handle guard. The trailer is likely to be an attractive nuisance to undersupervised visiting kids. When you try to idiot-proof something sooner or later a better idiot comes along. 🤷🏻♂️
I wonder if you could replace the 6 bolts that hold the rear gate and gas strut brackets with a quick release type bolt, or maybe a clevis pin. I'd want something that's fairly flush on both sides. If you can find a clevis pin the right length (or make one), it might not protrude any further than the nut on the existing bolt does. When the gate is up the gas shock should be fully extended (or nearly so), which would make it easy to get on and off.
Love your work! By the way, the road you just built from those chips is going to break down in a year or so and will turn to sloppy soil, perfect for the garden, but not as a drive. Been there, did that, replaced it with stone. Just saying...
Would it be easy to take the tail gate off for hauling logs it looked like the logs put pressure on the top portion while sliding under. A complete open front and back would lessen your chance of bending the rear gate.. thank you Tom from Nebraska
Can you tell me what type of gas struts that are being used as I have a gas powered wheelbarrow I could to help with tipping out stone and garden spoils, thank you for all your time and tips
Doug what are the specs on those gas struts under the trailer? Those things look stout! I've got a couple uses for something that strong, I'm just wondering what the rating is on them.
I believe I was told they are about 250# push rating. 500+ for the both of them. The only reason you can push them down is the big cantilever that the dump bed creates. I have no idea where you could get them from… there are no numbers on them anywhere.
@@OneEyeCustoms I have a PTO mounted chipper from WoodMaxx with a directional out feed. I’m thinking about adding a hitch point somehow to move a trailer like that around.
Curious, @ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YUMsD7keW8M.html The woman can't pull it down. My daughters weight about 100 lbs each, will they be able to pull the bed down when it is empty? I'll be sure to add the latch. thank you
