I only know that if you compare the folded/opened ratio, the earwigs wins by able fold it 1/18 of its original size (around 5-6%) And yeah, earwigs can fly and its terrifying XD but NGL cool in slow mo
It should be the beetle with the largest volume. Which most likely will also be the heaviest, ergo the Goliath beetle is the winner (at least out of the beetles shown in this video)
I usually prefer mass when looking at the "biggest of something". It's less subjective and I want big and chonk. And considering we're talking about *beetles* I will have to go with the adult form and not a grub. I know they're the same species but a grub is just not a beetle yet, you know? So my pick is the Goliath.
Fun fact: the theoretically largest beetle larva has never been found by modern scientists, though its boreholes in tree stumps allow us to guess. The titan beetle (shown briefly at 4:40) has a larval form that is thought to reach around a foot long, thus making it both the longest and heaviest beetle in the world.
A... FOOT... LONG...? That's -- oh my god. That goes up to my knee. It's around the size of the longest stickbug I've ever seen. That thing was massive. Oh geez...
@@sthui2866 larval form, my friend. The larva of the titan beetle has never been recorded, but based on size ratios between imago and larva of similar species, the late stage titan beetle larva would be about a foot (estimate).
you have captured some magical essense in these videos. good on ya, keep it going. the tone of voice, the musical inputs, and the curiouse nature of the video topic, the vibe is great
My favorite science channel, especially with this video about insects and beetles. Mr. Orange Beanie is a good narrator/presenter. We have a real person. 👍
@@icarusclark1653 I think sun beetles, pachnoda marginata, are great for beginners! They're not fussy and just a joy to watch scamper around. What kind of snails do you have?
@@icarusclark1653 I wholeheartedly agree with OP. I just adore beetles. A perfect beginner species is the blue death feigning beetle (my first pet invert actually). Another good beginner species is the morio beetle (the adult of the superworm which can be found at any pet store as feeder insects). I pupated three superworms that I got from my friend’s brother who has a leopard gecko. The three beetles are all still alive after 13 months!
I just found this channel and it has me giggling with the absolute pristine vibes of the piano telegraphing the text... to think I was just feeling like watching some beetle videos...
I absolutely love your content and especially the way you format your videos! It brings me back to my childhood when I would watch animal documentaries all day! Thank you for this❤
I would love to see more videos on beetles, they’re some of my favorite creatures! You’re videos are always so calming and informative!! Love them so much ❤❤🪲🪲
Idk.. seems to me that the Longhorn beetle got shortchanged here. If you turned the antennas the other way, it would be even longer than the way it was done in the video. I wonder why it was done this way.. like is there an official reason?
I really love insects and other creepy crawlies, but beetles are my favorite! They make fantastic pets. They’re active, very entertaining, and even have their own personalities. Love these lil dudes ❤
So true. I recently got a pair of Homoderus mellyi, and they are the coolest things ever. Now I just have to wait for them to exit their 4-6 month long dormant stage...
The music and the soft narration gives me a strong Mr. Rodgers vibe. I think beetles are so cool. Some of my favorite creatures. This was a great episode.
if i saw that huge beetle larva irl, i wouldnt think its a beetle at first. i would assume its an overfed caterpillar. so the largest beetle for me is the hercules beetle.
The goliath beetle is not the heaviest anymore. The Actaeon beetle is the heaviest beetle in the world. The heaviest Actaeon beetle larvae have tipped the scales at over 200 grams, about the same weight as a Syrian hamster. Goliath beetles (Goliathus) from Africa are often noted as being among the heaviest beetles, however in their larval stage they weigh 80-100 grams, and as an adult only about half that.
Man I love this channel so much. It is a relaxing break from all the brain rot infecting RU-vid. I wish you a lot of success and keep up the lovely informative content!
I wouldn't measure an insect by the length of its antennae. That would be like telling a person to raise up their hands, and then measuring their height from there. If we did that, I'd be 7 feet tall.
From what I have learned "largeness" (not a real word 😂), is defined by weight and mass. The goliath beetle has both factors so it is safe to say it is the largest beetle
Him : “ this beetle is as large as a banana! , and can fly!” Me : * starts to panic, then realizes that beetles like that doesn’t live in my country, “pheeew” *
the Actaeon beetle is heavier than the Goliath beetle in adult weight, large individuals get to over 70 grams in fresh weight. People have measured the dry weights of different beetles and the Actaeon came out as the heaviest, moreso than the Titan and Goliath beetle
Well it's not going to be the first one and the final one my option is the second one and the third one I don't know but I'm not gonna lie but I'm choosing the second one 😇
watching your videos while doing my presentation project is so calming, i'm learning twice the information lol my vote on largest beetle is on sir hercules beetle! when you said it's average size is basically a banana I straight up stared at my own palm for two minutes imagining the size of it crawling on me. That'd def be a huge beetle!
i love Rhino Beetle. i once saved them, i met a poor big guy been dehydrated, so i placed into the nearest flower pot, next day, it seems jolly walking around 😊😊😊
Did you happen to take inspiration from Eric Carl? I love the was you draw your diagrams they are a lot like his art style. Also the very hungry caterpillar…..
i would have said that i regonise and can name 80-90% of those beetles but yet have never studied beetles, but i haven't plaid animal crossing in so long i have put bug hating blathers to shame
I would say the heaviest, based on this video. I don’t know if beetles in other surroundings such as ground, water and wood have different weight as well
Your videos are so cool!!!! 😄 Thank you an I appreciate all your hard work. I'm learning so much from watching them!!!! Your voice may seem normal to you but to me and others it sounds very unique. If you don't mind me asking, Where are you from?
Actually it's the long horn beetle the largest beetle this species is called titan beetle it's a long horn beetle from the genus titanus i hope thus helps odd animal specimens
