Rob, Not to sound all cliché, but you and the Chimaira boys are one of the most underrated metal bands of the modern era. I just want you to know that there are still those of us that still appreciate and enjoy all of your song writing and kick ass riffs on a daily basis. So glad you decided to start up this channel and we all look forward to more awesome content! Cheers from beautiful Colorado!
"Six" is one the most beautiful songs I've heard. Powerful and emotional, gentle and agressive, every musician who took part in it can really be proud of that song, it will remain for years and I hope for as long as possible :)
Totally agree! It got all the elements that a metal fan should like. Aggression, speed, heaviness, groove and emotion! It´s pretty much the perfect song!
the heart of it all is my FAVORITE chimaira song, almost favorite song ever. It has that feel that only amazing musicians can express through music without using words.
I heard a lot of masterpieces in life but I will always think SIX is the best. It is the epitome of great songwriting and a song having life and breathing. Its truly great. Kudos Rob and Chimaira
Hey Rob, I hope you understand the magnitude of the effect Chimaira has had over the years on aspiring musicians. I remember jamming "Resurrection" about, what? 12 years ago? and I haven't felt that feeling with any other album and or band, it was so visceral, honest and thoughtful. I am 44 years old, who played in lots of bands in my prime. Alex Skolnick taught me the speed, Dimebag the groove and you the feeling. Thanks for the music, signing to your patron now! PS: My 9 years old loves and is obsessed with Salvation's solo, hope you have time to break it thought now of these days. Cheers!
Rob. Thank you for explaining and sharing EVERYTHING about the process. The memories shared. Mark on the screen. All of it, was refreshing. Not to mention.. personal, and honest. I like how you tied it all together, and it all. Rob, thank you for being you. Chimaira lives.
I swear Chimaira has the best instrumental songs I've ever heard. The Heart Of It All, Six (not really instrumental but kind of), Implements of Destruction and even Samsara. So aprecciated for giving us those songs, and many more too.
Its surreal watching this, I met you way back in 2010 when i was 16 when you guys toured with Trivium and Whitechapel and now i'm 25, played guitar since then and i can only appreciate the riffs and licks you and matt put together as it had a huge influence on my guitar playing. Even to this day ill jam out your classics, but it honestly has made me the person i am today listening to you guys and similar bands to create this love and passion that I have for metal and guitar. Thanks!!!
Hi Rob, greetings from Lithuania. I'm so happy to see you back with the staff that you do on your channel. Chimaira is one of may favorite bands and I miss it so much. You are bringing the Chimaira back to life !!! It is so owesome...You are one of may favorite guitar players...I mean it is so good to see you back. Wish you all the best Rob.
Rob, it's awesome what you start activity on RU-vid, such a great and very high quality content that every Chimaira fan was missing for years. And it gave a little hope for reunion...
Omg man .. for the first 6 min I completely zoned out , that is the one song I've always wanted to learn, and to hear it done clean , makes me want to learn it even more ...🤘🤘🤘🤘
rob a I love six. But the heart of it all is my winner. That whole song just oozes personality and emotion. I can feel that song rather than just hearing it and listening.
This kind of breakdown of a song, how it came together, who wrote each part etc is fascinating, it's the kind of stuff I wish were talked about in interviews more often than the usual cliche stuff you hear asked a million times. Thanks so much Rob, this is such a treat.
The emotion and passion you show while playing these songs makes me miss you guys even more, would love to see you guys all play again even know I've probably seen you guys live 10 times, I just can't get enough. Keep up the videos, they're awesome!
SIX... I was a kid when I first heard Chimaira. And 16years on, still have Chimaira in my playlist. Chris spicuzza left and 2014 was a difficult time for Chimaira. Kudos Rob..get it going! CHIMAIRA \M/ Do or Die.
SIX for me is a full-on journey. It always takes me to places. This rendition was rad! The way you play with feel is mesmerizing! You took me to places I haven't been for sometime. Watching you play is a pleasure, a privilege. Captivating.
My dad and I lose our minds when six comes on the shuffle. You guys really did a fantastic job with that song. I also wanted to say I think you hit the nail right on the head with the songwriting process. It's good to keep an open mind about your own stuff. I was in a not so successful (mostly due to lack of luck) band with my best buddies and while we never recorded anything concrete or professional we had an absolute blast playing a few shows around Chicago. Bouncing ideas musically is easily one of my favorite hobbies. Keep this content coming man, you're doing fucking awesome. Suggestion: maybe get Andols on a video call? That'd be dope. I know he's recluse now but maybe you'll hit a stroke of luck! 🤘
Six is such an amazing song. There’s so many ppl in this world that need to hear beautiful music like that. I just couldn’t get enough of it and still to this day. Always been a huge fan since way back. Still makes me sad when thinking that the band isn’t around anymore. You guys meant so much to me and of course still do. I have one tattoo on me, and it’s the chaos symbol. Truly means a lot to me. Still love you guys and hope one day, the beast will reunite again, for another show.
In the day and age of "computer bands" it's incredibly refreshing to hear a perspective I lived by in my earlier playing years. Very insightful man, Six is a masterpiece!
Found my old Rob Arnold dvd and started picking up the guitar again since discovering this channel. Forgot what a stress reliever learning Chimaira songs can be. Thanks Rob.
YES! Six is one of my all time favorite Chimaira songs and one of the best metal songs of the 2000s. I’ve always wondered how a song with so many parts and feels that bordered the 10 minute mark never got stale, never lost listener interest, and never really repeated too much. Finally the answers! Thank you for this awesome glimpse into the making of a masterpiece!
Your song writing skills are truly amazing. I always loved getting excited for a new Chimaira album and then sitting down and just becoming mesmerised by what I heard! I really hope that one day another album will arise that features the original line up or as much of that line up as possible. You’re all really talented at what you do and I would kill to have half the talent that you guys have. These videos of yours are great and thanks for taking the time to make them.
it's so interesting to hear how the songwriting of chimaira worked. Thank you for sharing this with us. For me as a fan of the first hour that's just wonderful.
Six is such an amazing song! It is powerfully evocative to me. It's on a whole other level that I wish would be more common in music. But if that were so, then I guess it wouldn't be quite as special as it is, haha. Thanks for this Rob, you're the man!
Thanks for the insights man. I love videos like this where people actually talk through the writing process. Six is easily in my top 5. I love the back and forth between the crushingly heavy bits and the melodic lead. Love these vids man. Maybe Lazarus next?
I got into Chimaira wayyyy back when I saw a video for Down Again on channel V, I was hooked straight away. The Self titled album and Resurrection are absolute, all time masterpieces. Really enjoying these videos!
Right after watching this Rob, I liked the way that you broke down the parts for the song "Six" and how you had to see the song through the band members views, of how to chance some of the riffs. Plus how you had to repeat some of the parts. It's not easy when you just think like a guitar player and not see how a song goes with drums, bass and also how a vocalist as to fit his parts into a song. But once you know that it feels right, then you know you've got it right.
Absolutely one of my favs. I gotta say I put this band up next to my all time fav of Metallica. You guys never did filler songs.just great tunes riffs and killer lyrics.
Amazing episode, that Six rendition at the beginning was beautiful, found myself closing my eyes and space out for a bit.. Hearing about all the songwriting process was so interesting!! I would absolutely love to have that same episode about The Heart Of It All now haha ;) Oh and thank you for putting those episodes out so quickly!! It's becoming the youtube show that I am the most stoked on! You rock Rob
I will never forget hearing this song for the very first time. I was in a rental car due to a recent accident the day I got this cd and I’m pretty sure I blew the speakers out in it!! One of my all time favorite songs and I listen to it almost daily!! 🤘
One thing I’ve not heard you talk about too much (sorry if it’s in the other 2 episodes, I have listened to them whilst driving 😅 - do a podcast 😂) is who your heroes / influences are?
Six is one of my top Chimaira songs. I was so stoked to meet you when you guys played in New Zealand all those years ago. You're one of my biggest musical influences. It's mean as seeing you do this series. Go hard bro \m/
Awesome episode! Awesome song! I’m definitely a “feel” guy when it comes to playing guitar and writing, I also couldn’t agree more that having people in the room, especially a drummer, is key when writing.
Six has always been my favorite Chimaira song! These videos are awesome! Also saw you guys back in 2010 at mayhem fest and met you all at the tent! Super cool guys! Got my pic with you and mark and andols!
Cool rendition! Loved your insight on letting the other instruments (players) bring in new perspectives and sometimes re-arrange and re-think a whole song. The results can be beyond our expectations!! 🤘 Great video! Thanks!!
"Six" was built in a studio as an instrumental song so its structure is really complex. Were you not scared about performing this song live? Tough work to recreate this ambiance on stage. Cheers from France. You rule dude !!!
While this song was a pleasure to play live, I often feel the same way sometimes, where I think to myself, "Man.. how are these guys gonna pull this off live??"
@@RobArnoldWorld That's an interesting and motivating challenge for a band. Playing live complex songs I mean. Thanks Rob. Really good content as usual.
I remember the first time I heard this song live. I was in the skip the line line at the House of Blues Cleveland and was in the toilet during soundcheck when they played this. I instantly got goosebumps and strangely emotional. That was the moment Chimaira became my favorite band and more than 10 years later still is.
Six has your best guitar work in my opinion. I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it. I remember the first time I heard it, I was like " holy fuck, what did I just hear?", And I must've listened to it ten times it a row, so I could take it all in! 🤘🤘🤘🍻
