Rotating while holding shift used to not give perfect 90-degree rotations a few years ago so I asked the dev to make the 90-degree angles the same as when you click to have those specific rotations in the menus and he fixed it within a day. Great program and great dev.
when I first saw aseprite I literally just wanted it because the style of it is sooooo freaking cute it's an adorable program and the fact that it's so nice to use just makes it all the more tempting to get
Excellent. I love how the developer of this tool was a sensible person that did not try to reinvent most of the hotkeys and straight up used PS's. I think that alone warrants a buy
i cant believe anyone would want to stick with the default hotkeys all over the computer, in asperite or photoshop. I way prefer to just rest my hand in one spot and be able to hit all the useful keys. i get that its useful to think "ahh b for brush", but after you've pressed "index finger for brush" 10 times you'll never go back to relying on mnemonics
I've been trying to break into Aseprite for awhile, but other tutorials dive extremely deep and are quite daunting. This was a great mix of useful content while being very digestible and not hours long. Thank you for the great content!
This is a perfect example of a walkthrough video for me. Super concise and to the point. Talking quickly with not a lot of pauses. Everything was really clear and you gave great examples for every step. Thanks for putting this out!
As someone with a complete and utter lack of any artistic experience and background, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. The brevity with which you've relayed information makes repeating sections of the video that much easier, subsequently making it easier to follow your instructions. Keep up the good work my guy!
I finally got around to compiling my own copy of aseprite today and your tutorial videos have been absolutely invaluable. They are PERFECT- no excess commentary, no dilly-dallying, just tips and jokes. Liked subscribed and bell'd. If you ever make more tutorials for aseprite (or anything else honestly, i can't stress enough how refreshing it is to just sit down, watch something, and get the exact information I needed!), I can guarantee that half the watch data will just be from my actually ADHD ass gratefully replaying over and over again as I forget things and need quick refreshers
Wow! A picture a day for 500 days? Now that's a commitment! Would love to see some of your favorites! I really like your art style. Thanks for sharing your journey :)
Thankyou very much for making a great easy to follow tutorial video. I got Aseprite about 2 days ago an have been feeling somewhat overwhelmed, when it came to all the tools an what they do. So again thankyou it has helped me start my pixel art journey 😀 long road ahead but it's going to be fun!
I'm a beginner at pixel art, used to draw 11 years ago and recently picked it back up. It's been amazing, I made a big project over the course of 2 1/2 weeks and I wish I watched this video earlier, the preview & symmetry tool would've come really handy. I'll 100% use it moving forward. Amazing video! very easy to understand. I also thank you for putting examples put into it on how and when to use the tools :P
You have by far the best tutorial videos out there. I hope you do more! You relay information clearly, concisely, and with humour which makes it re-watchable! I have shared this and watched it many times. Keep up the good work!
I have a suspicion that Q is the lasso because it looks like a rope loop, and G is paint bucket because in Photoshop it's the gradient tool (and gradient is grouped with the paint bucket). That's just my guess.
I've been doing pixel art for a little while now but i suck at learning the shortcuts and tend to do things the slow and stupid way, and a lot of videos dive into what the program can do without explaining the shortcuts and efficiency stuff, so great video as well as great art.
Trying to do pixel art with PS for years and seeing a perfect pixel and outline option and being sold immediately. 😭 Having other PS standards just makes it a no-brainer. Thanks for the video!
I was trying my hand at pixel art using Ps , but it lacks specific tools for this style. Your video convinced me to buy Aseprite. It really answered all my questions about the software. Thank you!
I like the tempo un your video. I was expecting a slog or for it to be way too fast but you explained everything enough without making me feel like I missed something. It also helps a LOT that you demonstrate each thing you show! Subscribing already.
My friend getting this for me for my birthday: | me: HUH? WHAT THIS! | Also me watching this tutorial: THIS IS AMAZING! ONE THING THOUGH! I SUCK AT ART, that why i do pixel art 😭
As someone who wasted many hours making sprite art on microsoft paint with a mouse my mind is blown. Also your pixel art style is delightful "cleanup on isle goblin" added to my steam wishlist
i've already got about 30-ish hours into aseprite, and DAMN how did i miss out on saving palletes, the colour editor, and you can just CHANGE THE COLOUR OF A SINGLE PIXEL TO CHANGE FOR ALL OF THEM?? i'd say my 30 hours would be about 15 if i knew all of this. so massive thanks for all the tips, this'll definitely help me out
You gloss over it but it is important for people to know the immense power of the Keyboard shortcuts in this program. Not only cause you change the keyboard shortcuts for all the tools, but for anything on the command lines as well. Resizing the canvas, sprite, adding frames etc. All have hotkeys that you can change. Then you can save your hotkeys layout as a backup or to send to another machine.
such a good video, was looking for pixel art software to help with my game and this has all the tools to make it efficient and easier to grasp for a non designer mofo like myself, props to you man.
Thank you for putting this together. Just hopped on the pixel art train and I’m learning from scratch as a non-artist. Would definitely appreciate some sort of learning plan or pathway to follow.
Thanks so much. This video is exactly what I need to get back into pixel art on aesprite. Good information with entertaining commentary, liked and subbed.
Omg man! Very clear, to the point and highly informative, i wrote everything down, i feel already like a pro and i can't draw if my life depends on it 😅 This is great thank you :) I'll be watching the other Tutorial as well.
Compiling it by yourself if more of a annoying/complicated task than hard. It may be a little bit confusing and harder to people that doesn't have anything with programming, but just following a tutorial, specially if it's a video tutorial, I think anyone can get it working. As you said, it's great for testing it if anyone wants and actually, you can get the most up to date version compiling, it just won't update by itself, so if you want the newest version always, you'll need to be recompiling the base code whenever a update is launched.
Dang it, what is with these cool videos luring me in and then teaching me things?! You're not supposed to teach old dogs new tricks! Joking aside, loved the video, stumbled upon it and subscribed after seeing it.
I watched this, then came back to Aseprite without playing about with it for a few weeks. I had forgotten a lot of the tricks here, because of lack of practice, but I still remembered how to activate the paint bucket because of 'G' for 'Goopy mess'!
Damn, you've only confirmed my suspicions. Freakin lasso tool doesn't let you add points-lines, gaaaahhh. Only adjacent pixels can be added. Really wish they added this feature makes it so handy to get a perfect crop. Until then I'll be lassoing things and deleting the filthy unwanted edges. Kind of like trimming the crusts off your perfect PB&J. I'm kidding I don't do that, but some people do and it was a useful analogy. Cheers! ^_^
I'm not much of an artist, but I have always found pixel art as more approachable. I guess cause it's inherently grid-based that works well with my brain? One of my few internet legacies is making a pixel art waterfall for Stardew Valley a few years back and a few other personal edits (including reskinning the pet cat into a turtle for a friend). Used Gimp aka poor man's photoshop for that. I think what I struggled with most was coming up with an original palette, so I stuck to matching any edits to existing vanilla palettes. I think that's definitely worth a video for laymen! ;) On another note love the art teases for game characters sprinkled throughout! Love the one with the scar at 9:30, including the detail of having the blinded (?) eye reflect the wound as well. They look like such a gentle person, I wonder what happened...
I learned a lot from this tutorial. Thanks! I just want to ask fi it is possible if you can make a tutorial about sizing of canvas. I’m confused which size is good for pixel art. Like if i make a house or a whole store. Thanks
