I'm only a Freshman however since Cal Poly is a career-oriented school internships are quite common and many students will have had one by their 3-4th year. The school has career fairs every quarter, and your respective college/department will frequently reach out informing students about internship/career opportunities. Despite SLO not being a big city companies from all around California and the nation will reach out to Cal Poly. I can't speak for other schools in comparison but if you're worried about a lack of opportunity regarding internships, then I don't think Cal Poly necessitates such worry!

off campus living is generally a much cheaper option for continuing students, as opposed to poly canyon village. i was looking into the slo student living so i cant really speak for other apartments, but i think they are all generally similar. i think you can find an actual off campus housing guide on the cp website that compares costs and other amenities/room capacities. for the slo student living, i know that you can put in your application the person you wish to room with and the extras will get filled by them. you can also fill out a sheet of how you like to live/time you go to sleep and other preferences relative to loudness/partying etc. i toured the place and there is a pool, on site laundry, a cafe/dining place which offers a meal plan as well, a workout room, and i think their room capacity goes up to 6 people in a room (3 singles, 1 double, and a bigger single). each person gets a key to their room as well as the apartment itself, which makes it safer for people choosing to randomize their selection based off the preference paper. i do know that it does cost an additional monthly fee for parking, there isn't central ac (but thats a lot of apartments in slo unfortunately), and they are renovating a lot since new management just took over bf this last year.

other than that, i know mustang village apartments are generally what continuing or transfer students decide to go with because its flexible and only moderately expensive, especially if you have people in mind to move in with

Hey, I know this is literally 3 years later, but I have a question ab your experience. I am just now going into community college.. so even though I have some more time to think, Cal Poly SLO is one of the schools i'm considering for transfer to study either Nutrition or Environmental Science. How was or is your overall experience there? Do you feel like it's a good school comparatively to other CSUs?

@@riotenbrink7941 honestly, I did transfer there so they put you at junior standing and you just progress with your degree and study field till they see you're close to achieving it and start the senior status stuff of senior project etc internship if it's required for your major (im a psych major so it's required). My experience was part of Covid times and where it was virtual, part of me personally likes online exams better bc it's flexible on timing for my busy schedule. Being on campus was daunting and overwhelming by a long run for me bc I didn't realize how many people and fellow students just crowd or walk on a university campus. The professors, depending on classes, are pretty good and not too bad from my own and other's experiences as well. Again, im a psych major so I deal with professors in the PSY/child dev dept. I also live off campus and drive there. Biking is prob one of the easier ways if you live close, because the permit prices are what got me the worst and trying to find parking. There are spaces that allow paid parking but you're lucky if u can find one that is the length of the class you take since most classes are either 90min or 2hrs so depends what's available. Overall it's been a wild experience and one I've tried to make the most of, it depends how involved or not involved u want to b in the university campus community like clubs and such. Im nearing the end of my time at CP actually and should hopefully graduate end of spring that's about to come up. Hope that helped! Also researching your major and the department more also helps with interacting and getting to know the head of the dept and or professors esp if you do a graduate program eventually and need a letter of rec.

There is Campus Market in the main part of campus and Village Market in Poly Canyon Village (on-campus apartments for upperclassmen), but everything is really expensive so it's better to go off campus unless you have a meal plan

@@riotenbrink7941 I've had a great time here! I don't know how it compares to other CSUs but I've really enjoyed my time here as a Biological Sciences major and I'll be graduating this spring!!

Alexa Rebecca you choose the community you live in which can consist of certain majors or things like ROTC, substance free, honors etc! Certain communities usually are in certain buildings but it can change every year :)

Yeah, I’m not sure how dorming works either since I commute haha

I know I am late, but yes. I am unsure if it's finished, but a family member of mine used to work there and said it was being rebuilt.

She dod her sophomore year. She was in the dorms her freshman year. All freshmen are required to live on campus in dorms

Madelyn Miller according to my sister who goes there, they are changing. So some majors will require 2 years of on campus housing

she lived in a dorm but she also had a studio apartment that she used for filming
