Actually the IMS bearing for the M97 motor is more reliable than previous M96 that was most of the failures. I'd be more worried about bore scoring than IMS, speaking from a guy that owns a 987.1 S.

True, perhaps it didn’t come across that way, but I was trying to say that some are scared of it, but the chances are very low, simulare in failure rates to the early dual row bearings. The 996.2 / 986.2 has the majority of the issues IMS wise. But bore scoring is what will really keep you up at night, especially if you live in a colder climate and do less frequent oil changes. @@OurRideLife oh totally, i agree. it does scare would be first gen cayman buyers. When i bought my cayman, i bought it from a dealer in costa mesa with no paperwork and they had a ppi done and it looked good so i took a chance. i'll tell ya, 5-6 years later, ive driven all over most of the southwest and that car never let me down.
