Do you love sports cars, especially Porsches? Or are you thinking of buying a Porsche? My videos consist of sports car and product reviews, used car market updates, how to's and the Porsche lifestyle.
I'm currently on my fourth Porsche. I've owned a Porsche 924, 944, a Porsche 986 Boxster and now drive a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera. I'm passionate about the marquee and like to talk about how to get an affordable Porsche and when the used car market is best to invest in classic cars.

@@raylancaster2712 you are correct that it isn’t quicker from 0-60 mph and has a lower top speed, but it is faster around the Nurburgring, so in that way it is faster. But all that isn’t quite as snappy in a title and opening hook. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I’m a fan myself. All Porsches are great to drive in one way or another, but I find the 996 to just be a fun car to drive that is modern enough, but still has a bit of old school feel. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
I drive a minty 944 and I have to say, literally every time i drive that car I get compliments on it. Its like buying the cheapest ticket to the best show in the world.
The 944 is a great dependable car as long as it is maintained well. Fun to drive and plenty of old school feel. Enjoy driving it as often as you can. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
Have a 2001 996TT with Tip. Just runs beautifully. No issues. Just a beast...smooth through the gears. Just wants to go harder. I have knee issues, too, and can't do a clutch any more. Last clutch I had left me drinking 20 ounces of bourbon every night to relieve the pain. Not a great solution.
Oh you are completely correct about that. After this one I bough a better microphone setup and in my latest videos I think I finally have it locked in better. If you happen to see one made in the last month feel free to let me know if it sounds better. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I have had three 996's with a Tip. I like them as I can change up and down through the gears with just a slight movement of the heel of the hand. I don't get this thing about a manual being more connected and involved. Each to his own, of course, but I thought the involvement in driving was to do with steering and braking. I believe the manual gear change process just interveres with that and doesn't assist the driving bit.
This is the Harley Davidson Sportser of the Porsche model line. The Boxster is like fucking a fat girl, it feels nice but you dont want to have your friends see you on it.
I'd take the 996 (manuel of course) and use the extra $20K or so to immediately start modding for performance and exterior... I'd get basically the same performance bits I currently have on my 02, 3.2 liter 986 Boxster S including the Fabspeed Exhaust, headers (catless) Evolve CAI, IPD Plenum, Throttle body, H&R lowering springs, Bilstein performance shocks etc... then move to the exterior with a 996/997 GT3 cup car body kit, BBS Sport Classic rims (silver)... So yeah basically the same mods. And people are crazy or just following the herd when it comes to the look of the original 996/986 headlights... they are super sleek especially if you get the clear lense aftermarket ones like I do. Just look at the Porsche GT1 Lemans car... I think its literally "the" best looking super/hyper/racing car ever let alone Porsche, luv it! 😁
That would help keep things lower. In the US we don’t really have speed cameras, but I know some countries do and make it even more difficult. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Oh don’t get me wrong, the 981 is the better car. But is it about $20K - $30K better and that is where I think the 996.1 is the better value. Now if I had a 981 Cayman S in my garage I wouldn’t be thinking of trading it for a 996. The only reason to consider that would be for th back seats or the cable driven throttle body, but outside of that of money is no object then the Cayman S is the clear winner. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
@@madfemurfast you never know when a good deal may come your way, and perhaps in another ten years the 981 will be more affordable than the 996. Life is kind of crazy that way.
I have four boxers all great cars the latest version I have is a 2009 trip tonic engine transmission I think it's the best way to go and as far as a 911 where do you buy a cheap or a new one it's very expensive if that doesn't bother you just get the 9/11 but basically if you're sitting in a car a boxer or 9:11 it looks the same from the sitting view
Just got a 2015 Targa 4s with 16k miles. Before that a Jaguar F-type and before that a cayman s with a manual transmission. Have to admit the handling on the cayman with just a tad better.
I love my Coco Mats. I have two Porsches - and I have them in both (one set black and red and the other is black and gray). I highly recommend! The quality and durability is amazing - and they look amazing!
Yes, I see what you are saying. Looking at my browser history I can see I got the figure from the Porsche website, but looks like I must have accidentally moved over to the Turbo after I had loaded the Turbo S page and wrote down the wrong number when putting together the script. The one positive is the main point of the video is the Nurburgring time being faster and I’ve double checked and that part is correct. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I do have an older video showing the entire oil change, but the filter is located next to the oil sump toward the rear of the car on the 986 generation Boxster (now the 718 has it in a “fun” location). When I still had the Boxster I would just back it on ramps and there it was. I do the same with my current 911 although the engine is mounted the other way on that one.
Guaranteed you could go to any valvoline instant oil change and pay way less than that. Admittedly the oil is more expensive cuz it calls for a euro spec oil, but 500 is to much.
Oh I agree. I was quoted $500 by a Midas when I still lived in California. I’ve also seen some online claim that they have paid that much. I’ve never paid that myself as I’ve done all my oil changes myself for about $75 for the oil and filter.
As much as I hate to say it. I tell people to go to Walmart and buy their oil there all the time. It’s always cheaper and you can still get a reputable brand and formula.
I mean it’s a better deal than the $500 quoted to me by a Midas when I was still in California. I’ve also see others online saying they paid $500 for an oil change on a Boxster. I’ve never paid it myself as I have done all of them myself.
I was quoted $500 from a Midas when I was still in California. I’ve also seen a number of people online say that they have spent $500 for an oil change, so at least some are falling for it. Since that quote which was the first time my Boxster needed an oil change, I’ve done all of my oil changes on my Porsches myself.
Oh I agree. The shop that quoted me that was a Midas when I was still in California and I’ve seen some online claiming they paid that much. I’ve never paid it as since getting that quote for my first oil change in my Boxster and have done my own oil changes since then.
I mean if shop charges $300+ per hour, plus materials and tax, yeah you are looking at 500 oil change. I got printout where shop was trying to charge me 900 for oil change, air in tires and connecting diagnostic tool to the car. 😂
I was quoted that price by a Midas when I still lived in California. In their case it was something like $150 an hour and they charged for two hours for a Boxster plus materials and tax. I’ve done all my Porsche oil changes myself since that quote.
@@OurRideLife California is kind of crazy with hourly rates for everything automotive. Taxes, fees, decent pay plus percentage for shop owner. It ramps up quickly. Life here is expensive.
My dad sold his BMW G22 4 Series after about 6 months and bought a Black Edition 911 Carrera 4S. He said it was his best choice. If he needs to transport anything bigger he takes his VW Passat or rarely my mom‘s Audi Q5 Sportback. So, yes, you SHOULD daily drive a 911 😅
I was using Porsche’s numbers since the numbers for the GTS only have Porsches numbers at this time. As we know Porsche does tend to be conservative, but their website claims a 0-60 mph time of 2.6 seconds for the Turbo S (with the sports chrono package). The GTS has a time of 2.9 seconds, so if I did the math correctly it would be 3 tenths of a second faster based on the numbers Porsche provided. Now, both in the real world are certainly going to be quicker, but we only have so much info on the GTS right now. Now on the other hand the Turbo S horsepower was wrong on this, so a bit of a hand slap is deserved one way or the other. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Some people say that hybrid will be the downfall of Porche . What do you think about that? Anyway ordered mine today and will be delivered in October 😉
I mean some said that water-cooling would be. I think that the hybrid won’t be the downfall of Porsche. Now if the 911 only had an EV that migh do it at least until things are more mature with the technology (or potentially we move to something else). Enjoy your GTS when it gets delivered and drive it as often as you can. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Had to watch again to confirm the mistake the current Turbo s power as stated is incorrect in the video. The current Turbo s is closer to 650hp the mistake is the listed hp of the standard Turbo I believe. Making a video and getting fundamental information incorrect isn't helpful.
You are correct, it's 572 horsepower for the Turbo and 641 horsepower for the Turbo.S. And yes, if one is gonna do a video, one should do their homework.
I see what you are saying. Looking at my browser history I can see I got the figure from the Porsche website, but looks like I must have accidentally moved over to the Turbo after I had loaded the Turbo S page and wrote down the wrong number when putting together the script. @@trey54321GO fair point and I did try to do my homework and was using a Porsche’s site as the source, but I failed. I’ll do an extra check next time. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
That is a good question. In theory a software update would make it easily tunable and I’m sure a few tuners are trying to get their hands on one to see how much they can do.
The Elio was a great concept, but it was poorly executed. Just because a new innovative product fails does not mean it was a scam. Elio was targeted, similar to Tucker. Doomed to fail because it threatened the mainstream. I would buy one or make one (if i could) with a few differences. What really hurt Elio is that these were not cars. Under most states rules, these are considered motorcycles. However vehicles like these are still far better than an EV.
Ive owned many porsches ive driven every porsche there is. Most of them are overrated. They are too expensive to buy and maintain they are not reliable. The rear wheel drive cars have zero steering control above 150 kmh so its total suicide. Many cars are better and definitely more fun. ( mx5 ). Not bagging porsches just being truthful. Some are really nice most are not. None are worth the price
Thanks for sharing your experience. Some of it probably depends on if you buy new or where it is on the depreciation curve as far as if you feel it is overrated. But there are a lot of fun cars on the road, so it just depends on what someone likes. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
