This video is great, thanks so much. How about a video talking about tones - I read about a base tone, mid and high? I'd love to know more about that tone theory, which tones are the common ones and how can I tell what tone a fragrance has? Is it written somewhere or is just based on smell? How/why do people use different tones according to the season? Another topic could also be about mixing fragrances. I hear many folks do that and I'd love to know any tips you have on mixing and which tones you believe go well together should one try to mix. Thanks again for the great videos, cheers!

EDT's usually have the best projection, where Parfums will often give you the best longevity with a nice scent trail. The Eau De Parfum is most often the best balance between the two. This is all subjective of course. There are Parfums that project well and EDT's that are weak projectors. You just have to test the fragrance on skin and see how it reacts to you. Thanks Teddy.
A lot of Parfum concentrations, at least in terms of designer fragrances, tend to sit closer to the skin than EDT and EDP concentrations. Maybe it’s because they have more perfume oils and less perfumers alcohol to give them that push off of the skin and gets them to project more. Sauvage Parfum is a good example of this. But in my experience they do last longer and they tend to smell a lot nicer.

concentration basically means nothing, its pure marketing numbers, I have EDC in my collection that lasts and projects better than EDP or Parfum fragrance. Just follow your nose and your skin characteristic. Great video btw. very interesting approach. Btw. Sauvage line was heavy reformulated by Kurkdijan lately so get older batches if you can
The term "Aromatic fougère" seems to be essentially meaningless these days, basically it's a way of saying "fragrance for men" which sounds a bit fancier. Hardly any modern fougères stick to the lavender-coumarin (tonka) backbone.
Then there are fragrances that the edt and edp are two completely different fragrances with different notes. I think the distinctions are mostly just for marketing purposes. Parfum intense cologne extreme labels are just to milk an existing established popular line
Good video and yes there is no sure thing answer when buying a fragrance concentration so don't bother always sticking to buying only edp or parfum etc because depending on the fragrance the edt can sometimes be better and other times not be, it is sadly very misleading for many people, I've brought a few parfums lately and they have longer performance yet don't project much, On the other hand if you buy a fragrance like dolce and gabana the one the edt won't perform or project and the edp will do both more, yet dior sauvage is the opposite way round the edt is a big performance edp average and parfum a long lasting skin scent with no projection hardly, it's best to try em out first if you can
I typically go after EDP regardless for whatever reason. Ive recently started building my collection back up, and with some much more expensive stuff after finding these discount websites. I usually atick to the EDP, just because of where i work. I run around a restaurant all night, and i get kotchen smells and all sort of things going on, so with that, ive noticed that most edp versions, just seem to last a lot longer. Where most of my edt's will be good, but only last part way through the night, most of my edp, will stick with me regardless of how crazy work gets. Its interesting though, because for instance, mont blanc explorer, for whatever reason, i only get really most of a shift at work and its gone, or Diesel Spirit of the Brave Intense, that one only lasted me maybe 3 hours before it was barely detectable. I guess im slpwly learning that it doesnt matter so much now. I may bite the bullet and try out a couple of good edt, because ive really limited what ill buy, just beca7se i typically stay away from edt. Lol
Like Sauvage EDT the most! In this case, I could layer the EDT & EDP or Parfum to have the best of both? I know it’s not a no brainer but I would guess it could work
Hi Teddy. My two cents on this kind of fragrance content: 1. I generally enjoy the “nerdy stuff”. Whether its fragrances, watches, cars, or music. 2. But with that said, the chemistry behind fragrance composition (e.g. CTPA position on Lilial) is not very interesting, and not a smart direction for this channel 3. Instead, I suggest you explore fragrance content from the perfumer perspective. Share your favorite creation from Oliver Cresp, Jacques Polge or Alberto Morillas. And most importantly, 4. Keep Courtney engaged and featured in y’alls fragrance content. She will gather more interest (and clicks) than you ever will. (No offence. I enjoy your watch stuff and Kevin O’Leary is a hoot!) The female perspective on men’s fragrances in invaluable.

Something I’d like to learn more about and I’m assuming other cologne/perfume enthusiasts would as well is a video describing the different time intervals you can expect to smell the different “notes” a particular fragrance gives off. Top note first 5 mins , bottom note after 2 hours etc

Hi Teddy, you used Dior Sauvage as an illustration in this video, identifying the EdT, EdP and Parfum concentrates. There is also an Elixir. Does the Elixir have an even higher oil concentration than the Parfum....or is it different to the Parfum in other ways?
Most Parfums should last longer due to the higher concentration levels compared to EDT/EDP, but as explained in this video that's not always the case depending on the fragrance
Short answer, different chemicals. Edt, EDP, and Parfum use different chemicals for the concentrations. EDT might be geared towards brightness and projection, but might sacrifice longevity. Parfums for longevity might sacrifice a bit of that brightness.

In fact you could buy without knowing an EdT with 15% fragrance oil from one brand, while another brand's EdP, or even within the same brand, has also a concentration of 15% fragrance oil. So indeed there are well concentrated EdT's out there to explore. Between the EdT, EdP and perfume of one kind, there could be a difference in ingredients used. For me that's what I always check and smell, because some note I just don't like in a fragrance. If a lower concentration lasts just a little less longer, but you like that concentration more then the higher concentration, just buy that one and if nesessery respray during the day.

Great thanks for the explanation! I was wondering why I presumably bought the same bottle of perfume but one lasted longer...The toilette didn't last at all while the eau de parfum lasted all day! I I'll stick with that!Also...I feel like companies not making scents that last longer is just bull bc I get oil based scents at beauty stores for $4 and they smell good and last allll day! No excuses.If I'm paying $100 + a bottle It should at least last all day bc otherwise what is the point?

I got my first bottle of designer fragrance, Dior Sauvage, and I went with the EDP. It easily lasts all day, and I can still smell it on my wrist the next morning before my shower. I'm very happy with the performance and the scent.
I honestly use to just buy the cheapest "authentic" Cologne and never new they had weak versions and also didn't know they have a ton of fakes being sold 😢

Interesting... I always thought that things labeled parfum were supposed to last longer, but I bought a bottle of YSL L'homme le Parfum as my summer scent this year and it doesn't last at all. Smells great when you put it on, but within an hour or so it completely disappears. Very disappointing.
It comes down to marketing tbh. EDT are marketed for bright and fresh openings, and massive initial projection, Parfums are marketed towards longevity, so the aroma chemicals that consist of these designer fragrances are combined differently.
At roughly 6:38 you say that molecules with a higher detection threshold are detected more easily - this is the wrong way around. A lower detection threshold means you can still detect it even when there's less of it, so aromachemicals with lower detection thresholds seem to "last longer" because it takes longer for them to decay below the threshold. Also consider that the percentage of some of the aromachemicals in the final product will be limited by regulation, and so the different versions of a fragrance at different concentrations probably couldn't be the same formula even if they wanted to be. But it needs to be stressed in every video like this - and it seems like every fragrance youtuber does a video explaining the different concentrations some point - that the more concentrated versions almost always go for richer, denser formulations. This is especially true if you imagine that a house is bringing flankers to the original formulation which get more and more mature (and expensive) hoping to keep the customers interested who bought the original bright youthful formulation when they were young.
