Excellent. I look forward to more in each category! Sick skating. I quit because I'm too old and it hurts too much. I actually think moto stuff like low key riding jeans, riding shirts etc would be great for the skateboard crowd to save a bit of pain. But I guess they are sort of too cool to wear anything safety-wise.

Textile pants are great for commuting, because you can get overpants that fit over shorts or regular pants. When you get to your destination, you can take them off and stow them in a pannier.

I got run off the road by a car, while riding a bicycle down a very steep hill with shitty road conditions. I went down at about 15mph, and the instant I hit pavement, my (very thick and sturdy, not fashion grade) jeans got split open at the knee, and my knee got split open at the same time. I was wearing boots, and the pockets got ripped off saving my literal ass ... but that's 15mph. On a bicycle. 10/10 recommend dressing for the slide, not the ride.

Great video. I'd have liked chaps added as well. Not a big fan of the style but it's an option to consider. For example I ride a bagger and I commute on it rain or shine. It's only a 20-25 minute commute and I don't have a good place to change in and out of riding pants so chaps seem like a good option to throw over my work pants. I also moto camp and sometimes want to pull off and hike a trail. Chaps can be put on and off over light weight pants. The ones I got have a pocket for knee protection minimal slide or impact protection on the hips. Obviously no ass protection. They still seem like a viable option and better than just wearing regular pants for short or long rides.

Saying of old bikers who know: "Dress for the slide, not for the ride.". Textile mesh "over pant" over jeans and take the textile off at the destination. Just look for long side leg zippers for easy on/off. I saw a squid last week take a left turn on the street at an intersection "throw out a knee" and "hang off" in shorts.

I dunno, first time I went down I gave myself a great case of road rash on my left forearm which I wore for long enough to be able to tell my kids about it, damn near ripped off my right pointer fingernail and ripped open my King Gee trousers over the right rear pocket. That brand is advertised as serious work wear and I took a kind of serious slide and suffered no abrasions to either my legs or buttocks (as Gump would say). Squidzoning in my office shirt led to the forearm scar that still hasn't entirely faded away almost two decades later.

Yam and Crew - I've been a subscriber for a long time and enjoy your videos, but for the love of God, when you discuss safety gear, please educate your viewers as to the different levels of CE-rated gear. You gave it a passing mention in this video when you were holding the knee armor, but viewers need to be taught the differences between CE Level 1 and CE Level 2 armor. As for single layer v. dual layer riding jeans/pants, that's all well and good, too, but again, with your channel's reach, please teach viewers the important distinctions between A, AA, and AAA. I'm sure people will throw shade at me, but I don't care because it must be said and it's true: the European vendors do a far better job at educating consumers with regard to safety ratings and I wish our vendors did, as well.

I have never crashed on a bike, but I did get ejected from my 1980 Chevy LUV pick-up truck onto pavement at about 50mph. Suffered some pretty bad road rash but somehow not bad enough to require skin grafts. Younger than that, I got my foot stuck under my 4-wheeler's rear tire on pavement. My sneaker popped off instantly and my foot dragged along the pavement under the tire for about 40 feet before I finally managed to reach the hand brake and stop the quad. That did require skin graft. I lost a lot of skin, meat and nerves on that one. 30+ years later, I still have a large cavity in my foot with zero nerves/ feelings. Sacraficing protection for looking cool is for shallow twats. Period.

I also have a pair of leather chaps and they protected me great a couple years ago in a hi side that ended in a slide. I would wear them over my normal jeans when going to and from work. Yea my body took a beating from the impact but the leather did it's job as far as the slide went. Good review on the gear.

Bought a pair of Hood Motorcycle jeans. Dual layer, with CE level two armor in knees and hips. They’re bulkier than single layer, obviously, but I don’t mind.

Interesting squid fact: human skin on asphalt at high speeds in shorts looks like someone tossed a bunch of French fries on the road. Wear proper riding pants.

i have some textile pants that can zip onto my jacket in the back. they are the inexpensive HWK brand, but i feel that i am pretty protected with them on. i paid like $130 total for both the pants and jacket. i am impressed with them.

The problem with the cheap Chinese made gear is they aren't certified and have no been safety tested. They are made to be "mostly" protective. They don't do what the better stuff are designed to. Like on a better jacket when you slide the sleeves won't slide up your arm exposing your wrists. The cheap Chinese ones will slide up on you. It's a lot of little things you won't think about the better brands do as standard to pass protection tests.

Too bad the US don't have Komine in the market. The definition of JAPANESE dirt cheap gear. They have everything you can ask, not the best quality of course, but you still get consistency instead of gambling your safety.

I got a couple of Rev'it jeans. they a pretty good. The CE impact armor is so narrow that it really doesnt look like you're wearing knee protection at all, they look like regular jeans.

Do a Myth Busters thing where you throw a dummy with gear on from a moving truck to see what works.

Fun story, the only accident on a bike *I* had, shattered my upper shin, right where the armor would have ended in a pair of riding pants with knee guards, and no one would have been wearing a full suit for the ride I was on, so basically, FML, right?

Leather and even the more rare textile chaps should be covered. Put them on before the ride and take them off when you get where you're going. Especially nice if you're using your bike to commute.

Chaps might be ok for cruiser and bagger riders, but impractical for most all others.

I just bought a AAA set of jeans, that are mono layer. John Doe. European brand. Look them up. They’re the pinnacle. And pricey too.

I recently came down in very highly rated dual layer, dynema reinforced jeans at about 10mph into a roll as I watched the bike fly away. Everywhere the jeans touched the asphalt the fabric exploded. Luckily I was rolling so no real sliding occurred, but my jeans went from business casual to hipster central in that short time.

Funny how “cool” is subjective. Leather pants to me look more nerdy than textile pants. Okay, maybe not nerdy but off putting. Textile just looks like gear to me. Like snowboard pants.

Love my Alpinestars textile pants. Look great and breathe exceptionally well. Zips into my Alpinestars jacket. It’s a nice piece of mind that if I should go down, my skin will stay on my body🤷‍♂️

I think textiles can definitely look good. I think the way your gear looks is dependent on you and the ride. I think a lot of bikes and people can pull off the textile look. The retro classic come to mind. Personally, I think I'd look kind of funny in textile or leather pants on my cruiser. It'd be like a person in a full leather one piece with an airbag riding a sportster.

@@Ichibuns I ride a ninja daily, about to pick up a scout. The set looks really good. I did have some sedici gear, but it just didn’t hold up and I got need up going with Alpine for everything except my Shoei helmet. I would definitely look out of place on an adventure bike🤷‍♂️

Didn’t expect the street to be torn up when I leaned into my turn at 19 mph. ate it from losing traction. Didn’t even get to stiff arm the floor to save my back 😭 gf broke up w me shortly after that. Tore a hole in my pants and made me judge every corner differently.

Personally when it comes to safety I don't care how "stylish" it is, safe is better than good looking when you need it. I would rather be safe and ugly than at silly risk but looking good. I don't really care what other people think about how I look. If they don't like how I look, they can stop looking at me.

In the Raleigh NC area, there are seversl bike shope including a large HD dealer and a Cyclegear store. In 2 years I have yet a decent pant or boots ti ride my bike. I found a reinforced biker jeans with knee pads but it only fits btetween 60 and 70 degrees anfpd the knee pads are amazingly painful. There is nothing in stock in NC, it sucks and I haveno intentions if buying clothes online. Done it, been there, not working. Still looking for decent boots and pants...

I know this is a year old video, but your site no longer carries motorcycle saftey gear, only street wear. All your pinned links return 404 errors because you no longer sell them.
