All good information. I'm pretty sure whoever shamed you for handling a snake in shed wasn't a very experienced keeper, or it was someone nitpicking. Like you said, it's preferable to leave them alone, and some can get kind of irritable being bothered. But, it's not a big deal or harmful to the snake. It's just like any other time, you need to read their body language to make sure you aren't stressing them too much. Particularly when their eyes are completely fogged over, they may seem a little freaked out when you pick them up. Other time during the cycle, they may be behaving completely normal.
I’m enjoying your video frequency lately. Bowie is beautiful . I’m saving and educating myself in the meantime to get a BRB and whenever I see her I get impatient lol. Thanks for all the info! 🙏❤️
It’s always exciting in a hard to explain way when you see the shed. Like a holiday morning kind of feeling. There is this joy that they are growing under your care. Finding my baby brb’s first shed with me was right up there with the relief of his first meal with me. I guess it’s one of the benchmarks of the snake keeping routine. I didn’t know the shed was iridescent!
I first kept Brazilian's 18 years ago, but I had not kept any for about 10 years and I have recently added two new BRB babies to our reptile family. Watching your videos just made me realize how much I miss owning them and how awesome they truly are, and I am someone who has kept about every type of reptile over 20 years along with many wild caught species from here in Florida. (All released back into the wild). Thank you for inspiring me to begin keeping them again. Your videos are a joy to watch, so thank you for posting!
The only sheds I've kept have been when my Rosy Boa did his second shed for me and he was no bigger than a pencil, and the one time he went back into the shed and it is now an interlocked perfect oval. Royal (Ball) Python sheds are tough to keep because they have a tendency to roll the skin up like a used condom, and at least 50% of the time there is poop along with the shed. For me the higher humidity required for the Royal's makes it tougher to unroll the shed without breaking it. Rosy's have a much lower humidity requirement and their sheds are usually more in a strip than a ball.
