I’m so sorry this happened and that he regurged! He is very lucky to have an owner who cares so much about him and took care of him as soon as you noticed something wrong. This is just a head’s up to all of us to be super careful what we put in with our animals! I’m so glad Casper is okay!

Wow that's a scary situation. I know we have to be careful about any kind of holes or openings that snakes can get caught in, but I probably wouldn't have thought anything of those plastic chain links, so thanks for the warning. And ball pythons are particularly susceptible to that, with the small head and thick body they easily fit their head thru, then the thicker body gets caught.

I agree! It’s crazy that after all these years it happened too! It’s never too late for them to try something new and potentially dangerous 😢

Poor guy. I’ve never used fake plants from an arts and craft store but if I start to do that, I’ll make sure there’s no chain in them. Thanks for the tip.

No problem! So long as I can help any others prevent having this issue, its worth it!

I was feeding all of my snakes, my Woma Python dropped his rat, and when he grabbed it again he accidentally picked up his fake plant as well. I was feeding my other snakes so didn’t notice at first, but when I got back to him he had a lot of it in his mouth trying to take it down with the rat. I had to dunk his head in his water bowl to get him to drop the rat and the plant, obviously far from ideal but I’m glad that I did as it could’ve ended up with a major blockage. And I’m super careful in keeping any fake plants away from any of my snakes eating now.

Oh my god! This sounds unbelievably stressful. Definitely a lesson learned though. I am glad you were able to prevent him from eating it!

Scary! Glad he's okay. My BEL got too excited during feeding time and clamped down on the leaf of a plastic plant and has a death grip on it. Every I tried to tug he was like "still alive... must constrict!" eventually I cut off the leaf and was able to get the fake leaf out in pieces... yeesh... what an ordeal... and he still ate that night.
@reptiliangarden
@reptiliangarden 8 месяцев назад
Oh no!!!! I can totally see this happening too because their instinct is to clamp down even harder. I had a snake grab my tongs and do this 😅

Thank you so much!!!! I’m actually thinking lately about trying to make some of my own crystal jewelry. I think it would be so fun! The ones in this video are from mineral fox gems and third eye Pinecones ❤

This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way with my Ball python as well. Never put anything with holes they can fit their heads through that they can't fit their biggest part of their bodies through. They don't know how chubby their own bodies are

So sorry you had to learn the hard way too! 😭

Glad the noodle is ok. Mine got stuck between the slats under the handrail going upstairs. One of the others decided to try to slide between the edge of the swing door and the side of the cage. Full panic both times. little turds. Lol I bet he has slithered through that a thousand times as a sub-adult, and finally got too big. Glad you got to him. Glad his little ribs didn’t break. Hopefully, once you allow time for his throat to heal from the regurgitation, he will eat again for you.

He already ate. The dude is crazy about food and wanted it the first night after. 😅 I made him wait a couple days to heal first though.

i had this exact plant in my bp's enclosure when she was a teeny baby and she got stuck in the little link too! luckily i noticed right away bc she was so small but i took all those out and just put them around them house instead bc it wasnt worth the risk.

Poor Kasper (Casper?)! Because of this video I just added a new item to my monthly maintenance task reminder, which had read to check all of their equipment such and bulbs, misters, hosing and clean and maintenance them. Now it has an item to check over all the decor and the habitat itself for signs of wear and possible safety risks. And I think I am going to remove the suction cups that mount zip ties for plants entirely because I now realize they could pose the same issue you just had.

Thanks for sharing! I’m glad you were able to get it off the little guy. I had to get rid of the bioactive setups for my geckos because of a gnat infestation. I was planning to keep them in an all plastic setup to avoid those damn things but I’ve noticed my gargoyles have started barely climbing and have become less active. I’m now setting them back up in bioactive setups. Hopefully their activity level goes back up and those damn gnats stay away
@reptiliangarden
@reptiliangarden 8 месяцев назад
I wish you all the best! I hope you are gnat free going forward 😅 I hear this happening with people quite often, but I’m not sure what the cause could be.
@lbeard7661

You can try apple cider vinegar traps just outside the enclosure. Basically ACV in a curved dish with dish soap will draw out a lot of them.
@erickperez8770
@erickperez8770 2 месяца назад
Gnats are a normal part of a bio active system tho. Is it annoying? Yes. However it's something that will ALWAYS be there. There are periods of time where it'll die down and times where you'll want to set everything on fire but that's what comes with a bioactive system
