Sports Arnis, also known as Modern Arnis or Arnis de Mano, is a Filipino martial art that emphasizes weapon-based fighting using sticks, knives, and other bladed weapons. Developed from traditional Filipino martial arts, it incorporates striking, grappling, and disarming techniques, making it a versatile and dynamic form of self-defense. Arnis is not only a means of combat but also a sport, with competitive tournaments held worldwide where practitioners showcase their skills in forms, sparring, and weaponry. It promotes physical fitness, mental discipline, and cultural heritage, reflecting the rich history and traditions of the Philippines. Here, Lawrence J. Macaraeg shows us everything we need to know about Sports Arnis.

I used to do this old school. Rattan sticks, no padding, no gloves, no head gear. Times sure have changed.

This is called "larping" The problem with this... Is there is zero benefit as far as actual real life combat would go... NONE of these strikes would do ANYTHING in real life. You're literally just trying to touch the other person first to get the point. And before any of you fanboys start whining... I've been hit with Rattan sticks MANY times. With adrenaline pumping these "strikes" wouldn't even be felt.

The benefit is learning of distance Management, first Reaction and taunting as an Attribut. Not the whole aspect of a fight.

It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve. If the stick is to represent a blade, you could argue that rattan stickfighting is larping too. Just a light touch with a blade would sever vingers or limbs in reality, so why go full contact? Its all perspective.

For some reason, the fighters tried to hit each other and at the same time used minimal defense. In a knife fight, both are almost always dead. Because they went into a frontal attack. There are no full-fledged exits. He deceived, hit, left. Give them dull iron knives or wooden ones and the sparring will take on new colors.

Use protection, but not padded sticks. Rattan sticks will recreate real fighting better

I don't like the rules of this form of Kali! Don't break them up it should be like WEKAF rules you go at it for 3 mins rounds. Where disarms are round enders. I do love that you use single knife and double sticks. But don't stop them for 3 mins.
