In the discord after the livestream, mods were clarifying that the DLC is **NOT** chapter 2. This could have since been corrected but that's the info I was given. I love the look of the DLC but I'm very annoyed that the entire content of the DLC will be a gradual release, because otherwise why am I paying so much money upfront for only part of the product. Makes it feel like they haven't completed the DLC content and are using this as a way to prolong the finished product

I’m bummed out because been waiting for Rapunzel specifically since I very first picked up the game, only to find out it’s now paywalled with other quality of life things that should have been added in the “base game”. Not only that but the fact that they pushed the “f2p” aspect for so many months, only to last minute switch it up, it feels bad. If gameloft took a look at how the Sims community reacts to that exact thing that EA has done, they would be smart to reconsider some of their actions or risk losing most of their player base

What gets me is that they seem to have used our feedback as a way to gouge us. We've asked to be able to cook more than one item at a time - only if you pay more, a way to speed up farming - only if you pay more. They need to fix the base game before I spend another cent.

I refuse to give them any more money. I bought the "Ultimate" editon for $70 and the new "Gold" edition is the same $70 and comes with the expansion pass. I gave them the same amount as the gold costs so I refuse to give them 30 more dollars for the expansion pass.

It kind of sucks that the Gold edition is $70 and includes the DLC, but those of us that paid $70 for the ultimate edition still have to pay $30 for the DLC. And after the launch there is no difference in gifts compared to standard or deluxe editions.

Already dropped $70 dollars for ultimate. I've held back on purchasing house/outfit bundles to see where the game would go after beta. So I would be spending at least $100 dollars on a game with very little plot and lots of crashing (have it on the switch...) to the point that I can't do one of the main features: decorating. Such a bummer. I just really wish there was more accountability for promising f2p.

I was mostly ok with everything until you said the expansion isn't cross-platform if we buy it for one and use it on another :/ I could could handle the 30$ for the expansion. I barely handled them saying it would no longer be f2p. But now we're expected to buy the expansion for every platform? I'd have to get one for my Switch and my Steam PC/Steam Deck? Honestly, Palia is looking better as my main focus. This game is getting too greedy wtf.

Thank you for keeping your fans updated on this! Honestly, They haven't kept my attention with this game. My BIGGEST issue was the gardening issue on the Nintendo Switch. I also hate that they're forcing players to pay for literally everything. I play it here and there but I just can't... even. Fae Farm and Wildeflowers are the games that have stolen my attention. As well as that fruit game you recommended 🤣me and my husband battle each other on getting high scores it's so addicting haha

I think your assessment of the situation is spot on. I’m glad they are adding more content for no additional charge but I’m disappointed by some of the things they are paywalling, especially bulk cooking and sprinklers. $30 is a fair price for the content in the dlc but whether some of it should even be paywalled is arguable. Overall, I am excited for the new content.

I would love the ability to place different villagers in the new second world, there's no space in my valley, it just looks so crowded... thank you for all the info in one place I hate that they paywalled characters and new world... I'm still debating if I'm going to buy the dlc. We shall see. Kachow!

Paying for a base game at full price plus DLC’s then having to buy more because things that you want or need is behind a paywall is stupid. The next part of the games story might behind a paywall now. They say “free”is not free, you already paid for it; it’s included in the game. Paying for stuff should only be for “free-to-play” at the start only games. This is how these games make their money. Games that you have to pay for should not have paywalls at all. The game is yours. I will never buy DLV even if I want to.

This was a great rundown of everything. To date, my switch still crashes during gameplay on a semi regular basis which has kind of let me panic saving every 3ish mins, because sometimes auto doesn’t grab it until gone 5, and I then lose that. Visual glitches and the occasional quest ones have made this the glitchiest game I’ve played on switch. So while the dlc looks fab, like you say, is it going to run. And do they care about the current issues on switch. One reason I didn’t get into the island decor was the crashing. So, I’m super on the fence. It looks fun, but I’m not sure about sinking money into it. I’ll be curious to see how you get on. 🖤

Thanks for your hard work in sorting through all this stuff. I quit playing after they didn't fix the Fairy Godmother quest after two updates. I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth, so I moved on to other games. I briefly thought about trying it again, but I'm afraid I'd spend $30 (which isn't a trivial amount for me) and it be broken again. I can live with the fomo on this one. Ultimately, I wonder where this is really headed. After next year, will everything new be paid?

Agree that this review was balanced and helpful. You noted the split between character groups between free and paid expansions. What a good point! My conclusion is that Gameloft has broken their pledge to not paywall anything central to the game. Whether it works out for players is for each to decide. My stance is I’m going to tolerate it for now and buy the expansion. Will I buy another expansion later? And what is happening with Scrooge’s store anyway?

🤔 now I’m not sure if I want to continue playing it. I’m not benefiting from any of this. It’s still glitchy on switch, so I was planning on buying it for my computer, but if I’m going to have to buy the game + expansion on both devices then this is becoming more expensive then I care for it to be.

I 100% agree with what you said and have been saying so myself since their Pre-Recorded, Staged, Fake-'Interviews' Broadcast with ZERO Community Feedback (The Community they kept 'thanking' in the 'Production')! I would also add that it seems clear to me that what has become to be known as 'Act 2' (The Continuing Storyline) is now the one in the DLC, behind the Paywall! I say this because I see Zero Reason why it would have got no mention whatsoever in the Base (Free) Game reveals! I believe they knoww precisely what they are doning and are keeping a careful watch to see what kind of backlash they are going to get. If they get practicaly none then that will be it, no further Story in the Base Game! And yes, of all of the Characters to chose for the DLC they pick ones that have repeatedly been teased in the Main Game and whose associated Characters are in the Base Game. All around an INCREDIBLY crappy thing to do! But as always if enough people buy the DLC and dont call them out on their behaviour then nothing will change. the outcome being that eventualy we fall by the wayside as well when the DLCs become too expensive even for those for whome it currently isnt. By then it will be too late to do anything about it!

I have zero intention of buying expansion but I am paying attention to twhat they might 'say' about the storyline. I have a strong feeling we are not getting it in free updates. I honestly think that is paywalled. I knew watching that stream it was going to be bad and I wasn't wrong.

I think that as an owner of the ultimate package I think it’s trash to charge everyone the same ultimate users should get repunzel free now as far as everything else 30$ is a lot for some of the stuff but u get new biomes so

I personally do not want to pay another penny into this so I will not be getting the DLC unless who knows maybe it goes on sale. But I am already burned out with having to always clean up my valley. So I will play when new stuff comes out then stop and so on. Until I fully run out of moonstones.

I can't even play this game on the switch of I want to decorate. Everytime I decorate I have to cancel put every 5 minutes and save because it suddenly closes and says "closed due to software error", which irritatingly a lot of switch games end up doing.

I mean I've had it only on switch since launch and I'm happy with the 'quality' it doesn't crash that often anymore and I don't decorate that much only 370 out of 600 and the dlc (which I already put aside money for) coming out way before I'll max out item limit. Also everyone buying the dlc for the chars or automation tools, but me? I'm so excited for a new plot and a new tool! I'm deeply curious if they already made Nightmare Thorns and Christmas skins for it or will Dec 5th have a new tool skin set and that's first Hourglass skin?

I'm glad I lost interest in the game a long time ago, anything good (past initial content) is paywalled and after paying for the deluxe version you want me to spend another $30 just to finish the storyline? And that's not counting all of the things attached to that storyline that WILL probably have it's own Starpath paywall? Nah, I'm good.

I never started playing this and after hearing all of this I'm glad I didn't. I have had it on my wishlist for a long time but the high cost was what was holding me back (and hearing about how buggy it has been in early access). I feel like this game was already way too expensive to begin with, and I hadn't even realized it HAD been planning to be FTP. I'm even more put off now knowing that they've gone back on these promises and are just going for a cash grab all around. Tbh I'd rather pay up front for a game and not have it be FTP just to avoid microtransactions and paywalls in my gaming experience. But it looks like this is the worst of both worlds?? It looks super cute and really fun, but I'm not surprised that with the Disney name on it the cost is so high. After watching your videos on this I've decided not to even get started on this game, as I don't want to end up suckered into spending a fortune just to be able to enjoy it.

I am new to the switch and honestly, I think you’ve helped me decide that this game, as cute as it is, is not for me. I’ve been burnt by game loft before (Disney Magic Kingdoms) and they’re kind of going down the same path that switched me off from that game too by paywalling certain aspects like characters. Which is a real shame because it does look a cool game that I’d like; it just looks like there’s a potential of it becoming a very expensive game to play down the road. Thank you for being as in depth as you have. While I may change my mind in the future, you’ve definitely saved my money for now.

I played this game since it first came out. I was already upset with the cash shop because the prices are ridiculous imo but I gave it another chance. At least it was just cosmetics they paywalled, I could live with that. But micro transactions AND the Star Path "Battle Pass" AND paid DLC (that you have to buy separately on EVERY plattform) PLUS locking important game play features behind a paywall??? In a PAID game, that some people paid up to 70$ for??? Well, no thanks then I'm out. Removed it from my Steam library and boycotting it for good from now on.

I’m really stuck. I was hoping to jump to pc from switch. But I bought the ultimate edition. So I have to rebuy an edition of some sort for pc, then the dlc. And I still am saving for a steam deck (Christmas I think). I love my oled. But it is definitely maxed out as is right now with DDLV.

Any update on the issue with the 4th missing Sign for Scrooge's Grand Re-opening? I crafted all 4 signs and put them out but one disappeared. 😢

I'm thinking about buying the game for Switch, but I'm hearing so many negative things about the paywalls. Are they that bad? Should I still buy it and if so, which one out of the three options (base, deluxe or ultimate... I'm so confused) would be best? Can anyone help me out 🥺 I feel like I'd love the game since I've been obsessed with Animal Crossing and I love Disney, but I'm not a big fan of paywalls and in-game purchases. The expansion pass looks like it will include a lot of content - I’m just concerned about how it will run on my Switch Lite, so I’ll need to wait and see how it goes for others. I save frequently and haven’t had too many issues, but it has been noticeably laggier since the last update :(

So question for anyone who may know or have an educated guess....Since the expansion is not across consoles, what happens if you buy it on switch and then get a new switch. Mine is on it's last leg but I'm trying to hold out for the switch 2 (or whatever they will call it) when it comes out 3rd qrtr 2024. so does this mean any progress i make will be trashed once I get a new console, even though it's the same console type?

So if I buy the expansion pass on pc and move rapunzel and the rest to my valley. When I play on the switch, will I not see them? I'm a little confused because if I still get to keep the moonstones, the villagers and the hourglass tool then, yeah, there really isn't a point to buy it on switch, unless I decide I want to decorate eternal Isle. I dont know, someone help me with this.

As for the DLC not working on several consoles, annoying but from what I read you can still interact with the villagers, use the tools, furniture etc., you just can’t go to the isle itself. A bit like Animal Crossing’s DLC if you got it for free through Nintendo Switch Online and then cancelled it. But yeah, wish it worked like the Ursula and Wall-E bundles.

I've spent 170$ on this game - including helping my sister buy things for it. 30$ for this expansion is honestly too much money to me. Especially considering how expensive the premium shop and the premium star path are. They should have picked different characters unrelated to the base game for the expansion!

I also was wondering if I have to buy the DLC on all platforms I play. Thank you for clarifying. I play on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. I was sad when they said that there are characters only available in the DLC. 🙁 Especially characters from movies we already have for free. I'm not sure if I would buy the DLC as long as I play on several platforms.

Pass, I was honestly fed up with DDLV for a while but the fact they are going back on their word for FTP and that it wouldn't be dependent on microtransactions. I have FAR too many games I play already to grind, far too many subscriptions I already pay, and I'm just not feeling this is worth it. A good game shouldn't have to be dependent on milking people for money. it sounds like if you're not throwing every dime at this game, you're just going to receive the BARE MINIMUM base of the game.

Yeah, I hope they're not cutting back on new characters/items coming in the free updates (we usually get 2 characters). However, I don't believe they would reveal everything about each Update and Starpath until a day or two before the release date?

At 8:13 she says that GL stated that the Hourglass Tool would be the ONLY exception to not being able to access the expansion pass content on a different platform than where it was purchased, BUT in the screenshot she shows just before that (7:57) it explicitly states in the final sentence that other expansion pass content "including use of the new Royal Tool, Dreamlight Duties, items, characters, and more - can still be enjoyed by Expansion Pass owners on other platforms where they own the game but not the Expansion Pass." What’s up with that??

I'm very new to DLV. So when I finally bit the bullet and bought it I just purchased everything. I expect that they probably would add more expansion packs to be purchased. I didn't know about the free to play. I do find my switch is kind of glichy at times. That's annoying I save often because of it. I put it off because I'm very bad with in game purchases. I don't mind the expansion packs. I just don't get caught up in the items that cost real money. That's where I would get myself into trouble. I know it's a long shot but I would love for Alice in Wonderland to be added. I can't deal with Donald slamming his body on the ground like that. Unless I have to interact with him I try to stay away.

I'd... love to get an idea of the premium experience in the gameplay features we'd get in other games of this style.

One of my biggest issues with the paid DLC is that early access players are getting screwed. Most of us paid more for the game than the new Gold edition that comes with the DLC. I feel like it’s just another cash grab at players that are already invested in the game. I think early adopters should be given this DLC for free and then charge for all future ones. I think I’m going to skip the DLC on my switch and since I already have Apple Arcade, just start over on there. Hopefully decorating won’t be so horrible like on the switch. I mean... anyone remember when games were just games, released, done, that was that? I'm soooo bored of updates especially paid ones, stores, microtransaction shady rubbish, misinformation and 'early access'. Everyone gives so many excuses for developers, oh they need money, how else do they get more unless you buy? Well I'd rather pay a standup fee and have all the things they've made for users... having to pay for something that's already an asset in the game is annoying AF and I'm not rich enough to be digitally splurging like this!! I'm having to save up to enjoy games fully, it's crazy. my opinion here is probably not echoed by others but I really am just TIRED of the gaming industry at the min.

I’m more upset that they announced early on in the games history. That characters would not be behind any type of pay wall so as much as I don’t like Gaston if I want all of the characters and the full game experience, I have to pay for the DLC, which don’t get me wrong it looks incredible and I’m definitely going to get it but it just seems unfair to me. So I imagine what other popular characters there are in the Disney universe will also be behind some type of pay wall or a DLC content.

I am so sick of gameloft at this point 😕 it feels so so gross that they’re deliberately paywalling SOME characters from some movies. It feels so money hungry and cash grabby in the worst way.
