Jill, you forgot that if you fall off while you are on an course you are eliminated or if your horse jumps out of a dressage ring, last one is from experience...
i guess im asking randomly but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Quentin Quinn I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I love this video ideas. Even as a hunter who has no interest in doing eventing I would love to see videos like this. I’m trying to get as much knowledge as possible in everything!
Hoping to make my debut in the Eventing ring next season! I'm a dressage rider lol and this year I'm playing jumpers just to build my confidence before I begin eventing! This was super helpful!
Dude the judge always beeps the horn when I’m right in front of the car and it literally scares me and my horse every single time😂😂 and where’s my squad of learn the test the day before the show?
thank you so much for making a video like this, as im aspiring to be an eventer this is so incredibly useful ! Also could you make a video where you either show or talk about how to prepare a horse for eventing ? Like how to start ? :)
How is your journey going? I love to comment on old comments like these to see how people are doing. I am returning to riding after a 20 year hiatus, I did dressage, but I want to do hunter pace and drag hunts,so eventing sounds like a great match for me. Let me know!
Love to see an outfit videos for both horse and rider for all three events! That would be awesome. And this is for anyone who know to answer, but at novice or prelim about how many XC jumps are there per course would you say. I’m just curious.
I’m going to my first cross country show this weekend, I have done dressage and showjumping countless times. But never cross country and So this was very helpful, thank you!!
Think someone mentioned it but over here in the UK and Ireland we have hunter trials which are just XC, very relaxed and generally low level but fun! We also have team chasing which is just XC but in a team of four, fastest team wins or sometimes there's a bogey time and it's all massive jumps and hedges! Really good fun!
In Ireland you can do xc alone it's called hunter trials and it's in spring and autumn but It's not affiliated and it's a bit like you pull up and whoever is ready goes like you have numbers but they generally after the first 10 like just don't follow them and you can go in pairs (at most HTs) or trebles (sometimes)
EquiiSarah we have an annual derby day that is put on by a lot of fox hunting clubs in the area that is similar (I’m in southeast US) it’s open to anyone and a lot of fun
In America we have hunter trials/paces too, not sure what the difference is exactly but I've heard either one been said. It's not the same thing as eventing cross country though because the rules are different, etc and where I am, you have to do hunter paces in groups/pairs because you go through the trails usually around a loop through different towns instead of in a field. It could be different in Ireland tho
This video helped so much!! I do hunters and my friend also did hunters till she switched over to eventing last year and I went to a couple of her shows but I don’t know very much about the sport so I’m so happy you made this video!
Yes! More eventing videos! I just got my new ottb and I’m starting to teach her eventing and while who still have a year or two before we do actually shows it would be nice to know all the rules.
Also just so you know during cross country you are allowed to school the water if you need to school the water or if your going too fast and need to just add some time to your final time. You just tell schooling water and then go through the water and when you’re done schooling it, you go and do it again and then continue on with you course. It’s a good way to add time if you’re going too fast or to actually school your horse through the water
I so wish events were the same format in the uk. The vast majority of ours are one day (dressage, showjumping then XC) and obviously it's super fun. But the two days sound so much fun, to make a whole weekend of it sounds amazing. There are a few in the uk but I wish there were more x
Please make a everything you need for eventing for rider and horse! Cause I have my first evening show on the 14th of July and ima little nervous lol and I just want to have everything I need and be prepared🙂
I don't know if it's the same everywhere but in England you can do a hunter trial which is just cross country competion on it's own. This was so helpfull thanks Jill!
Yaaass Jill great video also pls do the outfit video I would very much enjoy seeing the zobird all dressed up and getting a good look at what tack you use at competitions all that good stuff
Great video! It was really cool to learn about this, I think I want to be a show jumper when I’m like older and at a higher level but I’ve only done a bit of xc as my barn doesn’t do xc and I also love dressage so 😂🤷♀️ it’s a long way off though I don’t need to worry
In england you have these things called hunter trials which is just xc but they only go up to anout 1 meter 5/10 i think then you have to do all or xc and dressy but yeah im starting doing some soon when i get my new horse 😁
It's come to the point that at the start of every video I automatically say "Hi guys it's Jill" and hum with the intro. Sidenote: if anyone wants to do a solo cross country, I think the closest would actually be hunter paces. It's not balls to the wall, but there's an optimal time, going on trails over fences.
Yesssss please 😁 Really good video Jill. In Australia we have a derby which is sj and xc combined and there is also super cross which is xc then sj or sj then xc, but I think that is only in Australia. But great video!!❤️🌈🙏🏽💎☀️
When you have the crazy horse in the start box that’s rearing and flipping out and when you can finally go it takes off at a full on gallop cause same 😂
I also have a speedy pony. She sometimes thinks she's on the racetrack with her short tiny legs😂😂. At our last show we dropped from 3rd to 6th by going to fast. 11.5 time faults. Much fast😂
It's so interesting how in eventing ribbons are much harder to earn where as in the hunters or even jumpers we accumulate class ribbons like their is no tomorrow. Not that ribbons are what matters but they are definitely harder to earn in eventing
Ellie McCarthy I’m so happy someone understands that! So many people will look at eventing ribbons and ask why so few or why they aren’t mostly blue, red, yellows. People don’t understand each show only gives the opportunity to win one ribbon and often you are competing against 20+ people
I would LOVE to see the video about the outfits and stuff bc this video helped a lot bc I wanna start getting into this sooooo please make a video of the outfits and stuff like that. Also your my favorite I love you and everything you do
Ok so do you have to learn dressage from a different school or riding place or do most eventing schools teach you English riding? I ride western but I really want to learn English and eventing and stuff so I'm kind of clueless.
Hey I know this is probably he wrong place to ask, but a horse I’ve been free-leasing has been aggressive since a new horse moved into the paddock and has started biting fences and buckets. Do you have any tips on how to fix any problems? I’ve asked around and nothing has helped 😬
Great video Jill!💜 Except I was wondering, I’ve never done any big show with jumping, how do you remember your course? Do you decide on your own? Sorry I’m definitely a newbie for jumping and shows haha
Hello! So when you are taking a jumping lesson, your trainer will give you a course. At the start they are pretty easy to remember, so it’s something like the outside vertical, to the green diagonal going home, then the outside line, and so on. The first couple courses you do you might mess up, but after you jump courses for a while you just remember them more easily. However, it’s not like dressage in the way that you have a course before you get to the show. It might be scary at first, but all great hunters, jumpers, equitation riders and so on have done it at some point. Good luck from Esme and Dallas!
Side not as I found something awesome very close to cross country it’s called hunter pace it’s 2-4 miles long and you can look up rules and what not several videos on RU-vid You can skip jumps at no fault to you or your horse you can run the whole thing without jumping it’s like a marked trail ride if you want you have to have at least 2 people tho which is the only difference if you don’t have one call and they can find one for you if they’re nice about it
