I appreciate the zero cruelty farm :) for some reason I thought scutes were acquired from KILLING baby turtles?! good thing your video came out before I carried out more turtle murder...
Agreed. It's hard for me to visualize something in my own world and implement it when everything looks slightly (or extremely) different due to shaders and such. I don't mind on certain types of videos, but for explanations and informational stuff, I much prefer to see vanilla gameplay since that's what I have as well on ps4.
It's crazy that such an old game with a continuously active content creation community can have a newcomer provide such excellent videos that stand out above the rest! Cheers!
You might want to increase the fence height to two. It makes it harder for you to get in because you can’t use the carpet trick, but it will protect the baby turtles from foxes which can jump over a single fence when they do a leap attack. I lost many chickens that way.
@@adamyelovich2617 I haven't seen any mobs hop over a carpeted fence yet... Although I also don't think you need to worry about foxes when you build these about 99.9% of the time since you'd need to build it on a beach adjacent to one of the taiga biomes (or mountain grove, which is even less of a concern), have the fox wander into the beach, and THEN have it find your farm. Basically, it's a useless addition since it's a precaution against a mob that doesn't spawn near your farm naturally in almost all cases. The thing I would be more concerned about...is adding an extra set of slabs to create a half block gap instead of a 1 block gap. This will eliminate the worry of baby drowned smashing your eggs, which is MUCH more likely to happen compared to a fox finding them...and the baby drowned aren't that likely either
This seems really impractical. Like how common is it for you to find a fox near a beach? And if you want to keep the fox out, you could just surround the enclosure with basic minecart rails, since mobs won't path over them. Or just park a tamed wolf by the farm, since they scare foxes
just made the scute farm, the turtles grow up and get stuck under the flow of water, and many scutes end up in between the top part and not the hopper, haven’t figured out a way to improve it yet but doesn’t work sadly
As always, very thorough & intersting information. You do a fantastic job of giving us base information we can build on. I keep reccomending your channel, you deserve several million subs.
Built my turtle scute farm today on Bedrock edition and it works perfectly! Just a little bit slow, but I guess that depends on the variable amount of time turtle eggs take to hatch.
14:50 It's actually less efficient to have them grouped if you are willing to check on the farm now and then. The hatching stage of an individual egg can be advanced immediately by adding it to a group which has a higher hatching stage. By placing eggs individually, you can advance all of them together by placing them into the first group that reaches the next stage and taking them back out again. By replacing all of the groups again with a single egg, waiting for the next advancement, and repeating the process, you can advance all of your eggs very quickly to the last stage and then place them all to hatch at once the next night.
ECM! Amazing everything about video. Even playing since the release there's always little things I'm still learning. Great work on such professional quality content
What do I do so the grown turtle can get out? I followed the tutorial and they get stuck between the slabs on top of the hoppers and the ones above and the water just makes them bounce in place
You get an additional bonus of having the water near you absolutely teeming with turtles! It makes for a great site to fish and watch them swimming around between casts. Love my turtles!
I have really been enjoying your videos man! I haven't played minecraft in almost a year due to a new job. Ive been getting back into lately and WOW so much has changed. Needless to say I've learned alot from you! Thanks!
Hey, can you make a video on All Types of Rails and All Types of Minecart with........items Explained (including its uses)? Btw your tutorials are the best! :)
You mean the slab on top? Put it on the lower part of the block? mine keep getting stuck in the water underneath the lip, did this problem occur for you?
As always, Update Aquatic is my kryptonite. Love to see you doing update aquatic features videos. Have you done a conduit video or any underwater structures?
I tried building the exact farm in your video and it didn't work as you said it would... I ran into several problems with getting the hoppers to link up and the adult turtles couldn't get out on their own. However, I did work out ways to fix the issues by modifying the design slightly... For the adults to get out? I put in stairs instead of slabs along the top right over the hoppers. To keep out baby drown/zombies? I figured out that putting trap doors on the blocks under the adult gate (that keeps out adult drown) and opening them so they make a wall... works perfectly to both keep out baby drowned/zombies while also making it easy for me to release the adults when they are ready! The baby turtles are still trapped because they can't reach the stairs at all! I hope this might help others! Great idea and design! Thanks for the basics! I had to tweak it a bit, but now I have an even better model!~ Thank you for all the tips! You're great!
I just came back to Minecraft after 2014. I didn’t know these were a thing and I had to do a triple take when I saw that. Never would’ve imagined turtles but it fits.
Thanks for the vid, I didnt had any interest in these turtles at first but your vid is making me wanna be having pvp with the master turtle potion combined with speed potion. Lets farm peacefully these turtles.
Is there anyone that plays bedrock that has this design, and it works? I built it and everything is working correctly except the adults can not get out. All of the bedrock designs I find here on RU-vid the turtles die. I’m assuming it’s not working correctly because it’s for Java. I guess I can just build a pen, and let them all out after they have grown into adults.
Thanks for the guide! Unfortunately the farm you presented doesn't work for me, the baby turtles swim around freely in the water not falling into the designated area and once they grow up they cannot gat out of the farm so that's bad.
This was really helpful! I really didn’t want to suffocate all of the turtles after they grow bc they are too cute! Also I love how this sounds like a bob ross tutorial
i never bothered with turtles in minecraft, because I had long been of the misunderstanding that you had to kill baby turtles to get scutes and they were too cute to do that
tuhankyou for this i constantly find myself fighting enemies that just throw end crystals at me! thjis turtle master potion has saved me!! happy crafting
Playing on 1.20.1 and the turtles can't get out once they are grown up. The fix is to place the row of slabs that you've placed at 13:50 half a block bellow, so they can jump over. As an addition I have also added a pool on the other side of the gate, if you indend on making a kill zone.
I mean,, I like it, truly I do, however it makes it difficult to collect more Turtle Eggs. Once they grow up and exit, swimming away, you kinda struggle to get more eggs. Edit, my adult Turtles are not even leaving the gate, thay are stuck on the lip underneath it,
@@Levi89723I just made it and having the same issue. Basically what I did was add 2 fence gates to the side opposite of the slabs and made them follow me with sea grass up the water and come out of the open gates. Kind of a pain they can’t get out on their own but what can ya do. Definitely need an updated version of this farm tho.
My base is adjacent to a small beach, so a few turtles spawn there, though I haven't bothered with them. I've seen a couple of baby turtles spawn in, and by golly, they were cute. I did not know about scute. I might farm that, considering how going underwater freaks me out a little bit in the game.
Is anyone else seeing that the adult turtles are not able to get out at all? Also of the first 7 turtles that hatched, the hoppers only actually got 1 of the scute items and the rest ended up on the beach or sitting at the bottom
I got an almost identical setup (specifically I followed the wiki turtle guide, which has an almost identical setup but with a slightly different arrangement of water source blocks, and no slabs above the hoppers) and transplanted turtle eggs with silk touch, the turtles hatched and grew and then bred once but not since. I had a temporary fence blocking them off from the water since I didn't want them escaping and being lost before I had a safe turtle egg supply, and after the first time breeding even when both put into love mode they'd not mate but would just jump against the fence- any idea what the problem might be? I figured they might need to go into water after mating once so I opened the fence up but fill the exit with dirt temporarily, they went into the water and seem as if they're stuck above the hoppers getting pushed by water, but also one of them won't go into love mode anyway now (complicating matters, their egg hatched and grew up and I couldn't breed the 3 adult turtles then later one of the 3 disappeared somehow).
i started watching this video because i thought, surely there is more potential for these eggs than simply being a cup on the counter of someone's kitchen build
You'd think the need to hatch them at night is something they would have put in the in-game how to play section. I spent ages trying to hatch some eggs. I eventually accepted defeat and looked it up; I personally hate game mechanics that are so complex that the only way to discover it is to look it up (no way under normal circumstances would I want to intentionally stay up at night on Minecraft).
Special thanks for teaching ppl to be friendly to animals! Even in computer games it's actually very important, cuz all these kid will grow up with different state of mind that the animals are not toys for our entertain, they are live and they feel!
