So true about oil temp. We should have a neon sign made for the rear window, that can be turned on/off by a switch. "Oil Temp Low - Please Pass" People probably wonder why we are driving like an ancient grandma but the oil is just cold at the moment haha
I'm glad someone else mentioned this. New ST owner here and I stay below 3k and out of boost until oil temp is on the gauges but it takes a long ass time to warm up - even in Texas ffs lol Glad to know it's not just me 😂👍
@@Chrislav7 thinking of getting one, living in SW Washington is it going to take forever to warm up? My Camry is warm by the end of the block, one of my favorite things about it. Altima takes forever, d21 hardbody too.
@@dickhitswater4836 I still own the ST actually and I will say that the coolant temp warms up super fast so I get warm air almost instantly.. The oil on the other hand.. I gotta wait awhile before I can romp on her before she's warm. Most cars don't have a oil temp gauge, just a water temp.
I'm looking to buy a used he said it’s 2013 st2 I bought it stock with 32k on it it’s now at 68k and raising. It lowered on springs and new struts probably 15k miles on them. It has 2.5inch straight pipe from the cat back. Can come with a 3inch catless downpipe and an accessport Got other small mods like sound symposer delete and fswerks short shifter with solid shift cable bushings and solid shift mounts And I also have a Cobb RMM that’s not on the car"" its red and looks clean. I need a daily and drive a 2006 rsx type s. But need a upgrade. Does his car sound ok for a daily. I wanted completely stock but his price and miles are hard to pass up he is asking 13,000
I have mine, for 17k stage 3 with cob accessory tune stratified e30 Intercooler mountune air intake and Cobb filter MBRP downpipe and catbackexhaust, James barone short throw and shifter, snorkel, everything is good , nothing to worry, runs great, just can’t keep with the payment anymore,
i have a big problem so my cousin just got a 2014 st and i honestly fell in love with it and i have always liked rs’s but honestly i really want to get a st should i?
Good common sense information. I tell my young kids don't step on any car until it warms up. Just retired and want an ST as my last car will be a good barn find for some kid some day. Unless my millennial kids fight over it. lol Helpful hints when looking for a good used one Thanks.
I’ve owned my 2015 focus St st2 since 2015 and this car still makes me smile. Big learning experience as I built it over time . I’d definitely recommend for it for anyone looking for a fwd hot hatch
In our Manual transmission and driveline class at ford they told us you check a clutch by putting it in 4th gear and seeing if it stalls at a dead stop. Basically checking to see if the clutch is engaging or not when you release it
please call or write Ford Customer Service. Tell them we want the new Fiesta ST and/or Focus ST in the U.S./Canadian market. If all their customers are telling them, they'll listen and bring us BACK these hot hatches. Thank you for your support in this petition effort!
Your videos gave me everything I needed to know about the focus st! That being said, i fell in love with it and now one will be getting shipped to my door in two weeks. Thanks man!!
Who did you buy thru? I'm in the process of buying one from a dealer without actually sitting in it and driving it and getting a shipper to deliver it. Was that how you bought yours? I've never bought a car like that before.
I’ve always wondered about that, because I had a 2013 focus se and now I have an st and they both make that sound. I knew it wasn’t a problem but I’ve always wondered
@@theiceman6456 My ninja 250 made the same sound, just a lot louder since it was exposed and no insulation to dull it. It's a normal sound, there's a lot of force and a lot of speed going through those valves and especially higher performance motors that run higher compression like most motorcycles are gonna have more valve noise.
I followed this build and I was starting to like the st, I've owned a big turbo 1.8 Jetta and a 1st gen speed 3 but i have to say the st is just beautiful, I have the st3 and I'm in love with it
The ticking noise when engine is running is the direct injection system - the injectors are just loud when they spay- same thing in BMWs and AUDIs with DI.
Bought a 2017 FoST brand new and had it for 3 and a half years until I traded it in for a new Mustang a couple of months ago. I out 83K miles on it and not a single problem out of it. It was slightly modified and I beat the shit out of that car. As long as you do your maintenance and you don't over modify it and be too aggressive on the tune trying to get every bit of HP you can then it is a very reliable car.
Nayt I have the same spec st in California and had it shipped from Texas. I’ve gotten a bov and had the resonator and muffler deleted and it runs great and feels way better then stock. St has no exhaust sound really and has zero idle sound but after the few modifications there are all types of sounds now from the bov to the exhaust to the intake.
I want to buy a 2014 model, but I keep finding videos and websites about how much trouble it can be. Overheating issues is one. There are many. Is it really worth all of the headaches?
Awesome video man, thanks a lots Had my 15 ST3 almost six months now. Popped with a headlight malfunction this week and the passenger headlight seems to be pointing outwards. Anyone else had this issue with the adaptive headlights?
Thijs Rooijakkers - Thanks man. An expensive job in that case I imagine. I have it booked in with the dealer at the end of the month so will let you know how much I get screwed!
I had the same message and it turned out that only the high beam light was working on one of the headlights. I had to replace the HID bulb. The other issue I had, related to that message, is that the bulb is good but you will need to replace the ballast module. You can diagnose this by swapping the bulbs to see if it really is the ballast module or not.
I had it, kept saying headlight malfunction service required, had it diagnosed twice within 11 months one at a garage one at the start second time at ford recently , had to get new headlight ford quoted £923!! Got model number and got new off ebay from ford seller around 500 had it fitted and all is good now...common problem
The 2013 will be the cheapest but have more miles on them. The 2018 was the final year and had all the refinements, but will cost more. The 2015 and later got a face-lift. So look at the spectrum of the STs for sale out there and make your best decision.
Hi Cam, l am looking at buying a 2011 Ford Focus with over 200,000 km. He has just fixed the clutch and replaced it with a second-hand gearbox. He wants $4,500 for it. I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you Angelique
@@Starky513 virtually none! have had it for a few months now and its puts a smile on my face every time I get in it 👍 I also found out I have a few extra goodies frost the last owner like a short shifter and an AWE track exhaust
I bought my 16 ST3 new. It had the sound symposer in place but it was not plumbed into the cabin. There was no hole in the firewall and I heard that this is common in the 16-17 STs . I did the delete because it did basically nothing. Maybe the PO of your car did the same.
180km from new my issues have been... -2nd gear synchro is a problem x 2 -Water leaking in through vents behind back bumper, it will fill your car up with water. - Right hand side cv shaft bearing x 2
The grabber paint job looks better on the focus than it was on the mustang. How did you get your intake snorkel so far down in the grille? Mine sits near top just under hood :/. I am puzzled. Are there different length snorkels?
Changing the oil at 3000 miles is a waste these days. Even with conventional oil, you can go 5000. There are oils that will go 10,000 or even 20,000. The Focus ST has sensors that evaluate the oil quality and will tell you when to change it, it's not based on a mile interval.
Simposer delete? the metal plate front of the engine. not familiar with that,. Just stumbled onto this car yesterday & have a strong interest in getting on. I want the small turbo, and window tint & stock.
Going to look at big turbo focus st built engine new engine with 46k on it and the turbo has a 20k on it there are no receipts for work besides Venmo payment and told who built it and all I have is the listing for built engine for 13k what do you think
Man great video I learned the hard way about letting the car reach temp I have a GTI and one morning I was running late for work so I jumped in and just started taking off and I felt like my car was breaking or something because I was trying to go too fast and their car was still cold nowadays every morning I'm waking up and right away before even I start getting dressed I just go and start my car and let it run at least 10 minutes or more and so by the time I'm dressed and ready I get in the car it's all warmed up and I take off but man it sounds like a pain in the ass if the car takes even longer than my GTI to warm up because I'm thinking about getting one maybe I'm in Buckeye AZ by the way
That is a good step in the right direction, you should still not just let you car sit there and idle to warm up in the cold. This makes the process delayed and oil does not get to where it needs to be. Something to research too.
They’re way to featherweight in terms of the clutch and the gearbox, it freaks me out because I I slowly let up the clutch and add a bit of gas bitch is already rolling from the clutch alone (hill&roll assist)
I own a weird spec focus same chassis mine a focus se, base cloth seats but heated, sync touch screen, sony stereo and sub with ambient lighting all factory how i bought it from ford weird custom order car
I get my hands on a 2014 st for 4000 with 140k miles. The only issue it misfires on 3rd gear and doesn't go over 4k rpms. Getting code p0012 and p0315. Is this easy fix?
@@hix9306 I'm not sure what your motor is doing but to me that sounds like pinging or engine knock . Try to use better octane to see if it goes away other than that for that code your cam sensor to be relearned(timing) w a scanner
This st1 st2 st3 stuff is maybe a good description for the usa but definitely not for the eu. I got a st3. Fully leder seats touchscreen heated steering wheel and chairs but no sony soundsystem. You can literally make your own list with these here
@@moistcritical3193 I agree the price difference is high. Seeing how much had gone into this car, I’d be curious to see hear his reasoning for going this route.
Weirdly my clutch is heavy af! And I’ve driven plenty of manual cars. I thought it was stock when I bought it from the dealership but maybe mine isn’t? 🤔
@@CameronAlford i disagree that the ST clutch is super light. I would just describe it as "medium" lol. The Corolla, Civic, VW Polo, Nissan Sentra, Scion tC, etc, are all much lighter. But the ST is pretty light for a *performance* car, much lighter than the Mustang for example
ST2 had LED headlights as an option, rock chips in the front are super common due to soft paint, if the front lower grill is gone then it had a bigger intercooler before, and see if the shutter system is still there
Definitely, as long as it has had good servicing and has never been heavily modified. He said that they can last for well over 100K miles if maintained properly.
Just bought a 14’ St 3 and its been tuned by mountune and has a full exhaust system with the same Fifteen52 Tarmac wheels, appreciate the vid helped me out alil bit !

I have a question is the engine have a timing CHAIN or a rubber timing belt and is it attached to the water pump please. Whenever I buy a car if it has a rubber timing belt I change the belt and the water pump so I'm hoping this engine has a timing chain. Please advise
@Cameron Alford Awesome. I am currently saving up for a Focus ST in a separate savings account and will be following your playlist late next year. Will be exciting, being a complete car beginner at the moment. I've already started watching to get an idea of some car world things.
Unless you live where it it is extremely cold you just need to give the car a minute to push the oil through the engine. That is the whole point of multi viscosity oil. It's formulated to flow freely at low temps. I'm in the SF Bay area and it gets mildly cold here early in the mornings, mid 30's are not totally uncommon. After a cold start in about 2 minutes the oil pressure drops and at that point the engine has pushed the oil to all the critical parts of the engine.
