Hey everyone! I hope that you’re all well and you’re having a lovely day. I hope you’re not getting too bored in isolation haha; hopefully we don’t have to be stuck inside for that much longer. Today you’ve got some advice for starting college in the UK! I hope you find it useful!

what I loved about College (I mean I'm still In it lol but almost done) is that while I got to keep my high school friends, I also got to make new friends from all over the world, and that gave me a much bigger perspective on life than I had prior.

I’m very guilty about leaving work until the last minute, particularly at the moment with history homework and also I can relate to enjoying 2 subjects but not so much the other. For me personally, I really don’t like history because I’m struggling so much, feel really down about it and as though I’m not getting anywhere however my teacher does say nice things about me so hopefully I can improve.

I totally understand how nervous you must feel, but you just need to remember that there will be so many people in your year that will be in the same position as you! you’ll gravitate towards people from your lessons and just people that you meet around your college! wishing you the best of luck xxx

This is so informative even though I'm not from the UK. I did went to Europe for 1 semester for Exchange and it was such a great time. Not sure if the education system is the same all throughout Europe though!

when i grow up i want to be a detective/police woman so i am thinking of going to college and doing a policing course as apparently it’s very helpful. Also, i’ve had such a bad time at school at around year 10 to now and i’ve had a lot of time off due to anxiety so i’m really excited to leave and leave my fake friends behind as well. 1:53 a first year at the college I had an interview at last week said they were having a really awful first day their alarm didn’t go off, their bus was cancelled then they dropped their coffee!! They were pretty upset so literally shouted “I NEED A HUGGGG” someone who was actually in their classes ran over and randomly hugged them! I thought that was really sweet :))

Personally, I think a fresh start would be good! It gives you the opportunity to meet new people 🥰I think it was quite balanced with people staying with their friends and people making new ones! Don’t stress about it!!!! Most of my closest friends now, I either wasn’t really close with in secondary school, or I met them in college! Good luck xxx

This is really specific but my boyfriend and I will have been together over a year when college starts and NOT TO BE THAT GIRL but not sure how we’ll work out as we’re not doing the same subjects, so how much free time do you actually usually get? ✌🏼Thanks

so my college timetable runs from 8:40-16:15, but I don’t have lessons in every period. I have maximum of 3 lessons a day which is nice. I have 12 hours worth of my subjects each week (4 of each) and then the rest is free... I have much more free time than I do lessons, but that’s why you have to be independent :)

Hi!! I feel like I literally wear the same clothes all the time haha! Hoodies and trackies mostly! Everybody tries to make an effort within the first couple of weeks, but after that, everyone stops caring! I wouldn’t go out spending loads of money on different outfits x

I think you’ll have a quite a bit of free time! I have more free time than I do actual lessons each week :) it will be a lot of coursework, but you’ll have time to catch-up in your frees! I personally think that college is easier than secondary school. the workload is a lot, but you have free periods to ensure you get your work done :)

hello! thank you!! it will completely on the college and course! I take 3 courses, so I’ll get three a levels out of it, but I know that you can take btec extended diplomas which are equivalent to 3 a levels but you only take one course, so everything is different! I know someone that took 4 a levels in their first year and dropped one in second year xx

I think it will depend on the subject. In one of my lessons, I remember we had to walk around the classroom with a sheet of paper that had loads of questions on it and we had to ask our classmates the questions to get to know each other which was the most bizarre and awkward thing I’ve vee done haha x

I don’t live in the Uk, but I’m thinking of moving next year there, for college. Since English isn’t my native tongue, I am quite scared. I have been learning English since I was a kid (like literally from 3 yo), but I don’t have who to speak with. My cousin lives there (with her parents ;)), she is one year older. At least I have them there to help me. I am just really scared of moving, but I think is the best decision! Thank you for your video, it really helped me🥰 (Any advices for a foreigner tho?😅)

An old middle school friend knew hardly any English when she joined at the beginning of year 5 (Romanian), but she sounded like everyone else after months of coming to school everyday. Don't worry about it, I get why'd you feel like that, but just hold your head high and kids will admire you. Honestly, from all I've seen, most kids are interested in foreign students, they're new and different from everyone else. I don't know what school you're going to, London will probably be different as it's full of mixed races and languages, but if you go to a more rural area of England, as long as you give them a reason, kids will appreciate you and like you just like you're one of them.

honestly going to college alone means you will meet the right people and don't worry about them being older than you I guarantee you will meet people who are close to your age. Also, I'm starting college in September to and I know I'm going to be pretty young compared to most people but that is typically the same in high school as well!

be prepared for the immense amount of work that you’ll have to do… I don’t think I quite knew how much work there would be, but it’s crazy! make sure you put effort in from the very beginning, use your free time wisely and don’t leave work until the last minute x

you can do a btec which one subject but is equivalent to 3 a levels, you need 3 to get into uni or you can do 3 separate subjects

I can’t exactly remember when, but it was when I applied to my college... I think it was around January 2019, and then I started in September 2019! I had my interview in March 2019 🥰

You can pick up to 4 I think, but then normally people drop one of their courses in their second year so that they only do 3 in their final year! Most people only start by doing 3 though x

I’m honestly so stressed for college , me and my bestfriend will be separating , so when we chose options I copied all her options and got art history and textiles later on had to switch to business due to art + textiles being same gcse? And so yeah :( I got lessons I didn’t really enjoy and now for college I’ll be going Loreto she’ll be going xaverian I also got a place in xaverian I kinda wanted to give up going to my dream college but no I won’t because I’ll make new friends :(

You don’t have to copy your friends to go to college I didn’t and made friends as soon as I got into the classroom but my friends from secondary school I lost all my friends but I have a new friendship 😊

Elise Lawless yeah so I regret copying her since we did have arguments but in the end I really did like business and art hated history ;( I’m so stressed because we will be getting our predicted grades since gcses were cancelled and my mock results weren’t so ideal :( so I’m really nervous for result day

wishing you the best of luck!!! I don’t know a lot of people that are doing 4 a levels so I haven’t really spoken to anyone to find out what the workload is like.... if you speak to your secondary school teachers and parents I’m sure they’ll be able to advise you whether they think it will be okay for you ☺️

Hey! So, college in the U.K. isn’t the same as university. We go to college before we go to university! At the moment, I’m studying travel and tourism, media and photography 🥰And at university, I want to study Film and TV production x

Farhin Tabassum so we go to college for 2 years, and then we go to university for 3 years (or 4 years if you do a masters/placement etc)!

Farhin Tabassum in the uk 6th, 7th, 8th grade and freshman and sophomore year are together and it’s called secondary school. College is junior and senior year. Then we have university which is college in the Usa. I hope this helped!
