Thanks for all your constant contributions, you definitely are a giver. After watching this production thought to comment on how I find the Sun. I use the Finder-scope objective lens cover , cutting out the outer part of the cover and installing the solar filter film inside. With a wider FOV it’s a lot easier to find the Sun. Hope it helps.

What a great video and some amazing nuggets of information. Not sure if I missed, but for solar eclipses (total) for both before and after totality, when using a dedicated solar telescope and camera I am assuming you will need to take multiple videos to stack. You will do so in regular intervals. Does ASI Air have a solar imaging routine?

It’s usually very hands-on, and you have to be making adjustments consistently through that whole time Period bear totality. And then obviously when it’s on either side of the sun, you can keep similar settings. It would be very difficult to try to do that with the ASIAIR. if you’re using a mirror or DSLR, you’re probably better off using either a remote or just manually changing the exposure. I know a lot of people do up to nine shot bracket. so basically nine different exposure lengths constantly, ripping through the whole time that way no matter what the conditions are you’re likely to get the right exposure. If you’re trying to use an astronomy camera and do a time lapse, the only thing I can think of is to try to program the same type of thing in the ASI air, but I think most people that use a dedicated astronomy. Camera and telescope are not using that set up for a time lapse. They are typically using a traditional camera lens or traditional camera and scope for the actual time lapse movie if that makes sense.

Some great info! I've heard that the RedCat can'r be used for solar because of the petzval design. Also, the Daystar Quark is an unbtainium. I've ordered one last year in May, and cancelled my order in December because it never shipped, despite being listed on their website 'in stock'.

Daystar is a 100% American made products and sorry to say just 1 part can take weeks or months to get. Question not sure why you say a Petzval design can't be used for Solar Imaging with either a Quark or Solar Filter or Solar Diag? If you would say more please? As I got a ZWO 65 that I am planing on Solar/Quark for whole disk imaging... Thanks

@@whatmattersmost6725 Daystar has some great products. My dissatisfaction is with them listing the Quark in stock, and then not shipping it for six months. Regarding the Petzval design, I am not an expert, but it is mentioned in a few posts on CN. If I am to guess, there is too much energy concentrated on the second group of lens, if no ERF is used. Your 65 APO is not a Petzval design, so you don't have to worry about that.

@@nikivan Well it is, "ZWO FF65 Apo 65mm f/6.4 Petzval Refractor Telescope". So why do you think it's not a Petzval? But from what I have read the oil filled Petzval design can be an issue. From what I have read a Petzval design works fine and I would agree to check it time to time if continue solar imaging.

Hi 👋 love your channel. I have a sharpstar 61 edphiii and 174mm, i will be using sharpcap on an am5. Do you think this is a good setup or should i switch to a 178mm with smaller pixels but smaller FOV?

If I have a RedCat 71, how viable is adding a Quark to it? What goes into that sort of setup? I have a full astro night setup, but I want to get into solar and was hoping to use my current gear, but I'm not sure what I need to do to step into this realm.

I asked Brian and someone else commented petzvals aren’t great for Solar. Brian said with his FRA 300 he had very little contrast.

The bright star is Regulus, not Vega

Vega is the 5th brightest star in the sky including the Sun at #1 relative to how bright it appears to us. It’s pretty bright lol, and it’s apparent brightness is greater than Regulus

@@darkrangersinc Nevertheless, the bright star that was to the left of the eclipse in 2017 was Regulus, and not Vega as stated in the video (at about 33:00).

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a big race on this one. I thought a lot of people would want this content with the upcoming eclipse, but I guess not. Maybe as we get closer, it will pick up steam.
