All the repair parts can be ordered quickly and cheaply from the factory in Shandong, China. They are very knowledgeable and helpful and can tell you what to anticipate as far as maintenance and even a few improvements! Thanks for a great video. That was a lot of fun and made me want to get a gun to make rugs for my grandkids and maybe try my hand at turning child’s crayon pictures into custom rugs for their room. I used to lay/repair carpet and there is a heavier pro gun that is not nearly so much fun to use. But at those shops you can find special carpet knap scissors that give perfectly level cuts when you find minor imperfections. Also, in the 70’s we used gunny sacks from the local feed store to make rug patches for professional carpet repairs. It holds up and stretches roughly the same as the jute backing on most carpets.

The only thing I don't have are the sheep shearshehehehrworchestershire's so I was wondering if clippers would work as I've seen in other videos? protip...or rather, tip from personal experience. USE GLOVES AND WEAR A MASK when working with spray adhesives like gorilla and locktite. The VOCs in those can cause legit nerve damage. I have only regained partial feeling in the middle fingertip on my right hand and that was after a project I completed in may....of 2020. edit: in particular avoid any and all exposure (particularly skin and respiratory contact) to xylene compounds, trichloroethane, difluoroethane, and any resins in general. some resins will cause you to become allergic to them after only one exposure. I'm not one of those youtube commenters trying to say " YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG, AHH!" some of this is common sense and best practices stuff but this is a particularly insidious risk, because not a lot of people actually know how hazardous fixatives and spray adhesives can be.

YES!!! AND DO NOT EXPOSE ANY PETS OR CHILDREN! They have small sensitive lungs and nervoussystems this can cause early death to any dog, cat bunny or bird! They are alot more sensitive to toxins like those! Serioisly the SINLGE part I hate about YT DIY videos is all the self taught Americans who entirely ignore the health and safety aspects of making art. It's MANDATORY measures at any actual college class, for very serious reasons. Dying for your art is NOT nessecary in our age! Please be safe and considerate of viewers health. 🙏❤️ Lovely video!

It's amazing! May I know what kind of fabric you use for the back of the rug?

It used cotton. But I only used that material because it had the rubber beads on it to keep it from slipping

Great video, very educative content, just one question! How long did it take you to make this masterpiece?

It took me around 15 hours. But now that I know the right way I could probably do it in under 5.

You’re so talented! The carpet is gorgeous! I hope I can ask, how much time does something this size take to make by hand and how many rolls of yarn do you go through for a project this size? No doubt your cat loves the carpet! 💕 Awesome video!
@shop_last
@shop_last Год назад
Thank you so much! Of course you can ask! I'll always encourage questions on this channel! This rug took me probably 15 hours to do. That being said, I did it wrong for like 85% of it by only using one source of yarn at a time. I bet I could remake this rug in probably under 5 hours. I think I used a total of like 8-10 rolls of yarn for this one!
@CatsInHats-S.CrouchingTiger
@@shop_last It’s a pretty moderately large carpet, so 15 hours might be nice! The first of any projects always takes a bit more time, no doubt, but who’s in a rush? It’s helpful knowing how much time it takes through a project this size, to see the end of the road, so we don’t give up midway & get discouraged thinking we’ll never finish it. Stay Brave Tufters! 💪Keep on Tufting! 😊

@@shop_last Does the tufter advance itself like a sewing machine, putting the loops down evenly spaced, or are you advancing it entirely freehand?
@shop_last
@shop_last Год назад
@@WaffleStaffel it kind of advances itself but it does require a little bit of guidance on your part. It’s a little bit of both I’d say.

Your video is really inspiring and I would love to get involved in tufting rugs. In my country here is no such technology or materials for this art . Could you tell me exactly what time does it take to tuft one square? and which is the best yarn to use?

That's hard to say. Depends on the speed you're comfortable with.

Ok, so the "embroidery fabric" you were looking at is called Aida, and it was created & is used specifically for cross-stitch. Hand-embroidery is traditionally done on linen (or any even-weave fabric). Traditional hooked rugs are also done on a variety of evenweave fabrics, including monk's cloth, linen, burlap, or rug warp. I assume a rug tufting gun would also work on those fabrics, typically at 12 or 13 thread count. Just don't try to use *aida* for anything but cross-stitch. It's a weird, stiff fabric!
@shop_last
@shop_last Год назад
Couldn't agree more! I noticed a lot of online places were trying to pass this Aida as tufting machine fabric when it definitely is not lol!

@Shop Last. I've been doing more rug hooking since posting this comment & learned some new stuff that made me think of what I said & worry if it was correct! Monk's cloth is similar to Aida in that it's a "basketweave" fabric, and Monk's cloth IS used for rugs! But looking at the video again, I'm still sure that was Aida. Monk's cloth looks similar, but wouldn't be so stiff. I think the one you called "Monk's cloth" in this video might have actually been "Rug Warp"? But I'm still not an expert on fabrics & every time I learn something new, I realize how many times I've been wrong! The white lines are a feature you'll see on Monk's cloth frequently, but it seemed to be single threads woven, instead of a 3x3 pattern like with monk's cloth and aida 🤔
