I have the exact same press and engraver. I just got the same patches off Amazon. I was wondering what you found was a good rate and depth for engraving on those patches with the xtool d1 pro. Also what a good temperature and time would be for applying the patches to the hats.

Any hat with a glued on patch is garbage. I’ve been in the apparel business for over 15 years and I 100% guarantee no matter what glue you use it’s going to fall off after sweat a moisture. You can only hope the customer ruins the hat before it falls off. I’ve sold easily over 30k hats across all my e-commerce brands and I started with heat press patches. Huge mistake. Save yourself the bad customer reviews and buy a post bed sewing machine and do it like it’s supposed to be done.

What laser cutting software did you use? Settings with the hydbond that worked for you? Did the hydbond create any gas while it was being lasered? Looking into getting in this and wanna know if I need to get enclosure for my laser with hydbond.

Guess I just don't understand having excellent tools and materials but starting with a crap hat as a base. You always end up with some of those, but they never become a favorite and always end up in the trash.

Hi. I have recently purchased the same vevor hat press. I know that the pressure is controlled by the knob on top, but how do you tell what a general setting is for the pressure? For example, on another tutorial, a person recommended a medium pressure for a leatherette patch with a trucker hat. What would be a good starting point on that knob to give a medium pressure? I’m trying to avoid a lot of trial and error with the hats and wasting a bunch of money in the process. Thanks!
@TheReformationWoodshop
@TheReformationWoodshop Месяц назад
You can tell how much pressure you’ve applied by how difficult it is to press the handle down. In my experience, you shouldn’t have to fight the handle and it shouldn’t really be clamping so hard. That’ll leave creases in your hats.

Great and informative video, but I do have a question: what settings have you found our best for pre-made leatherette bonding? I have been making my first few hats, and the patches come out perfectly from my Glowforge, I have found that only the center of the patches are adhering well after being pressed. For reference, the settings I’m using are 287° for 30 seconds. Thoughts or suggestions on how I could improve my results?

I have Lonestar leatherette sheets with the adhesive already on them and using my F1 X tool... I keep getting a flame alarm when trying to cut! I am using the settings that x tool says to use for their leather patches. I am guessing the settings are off and causing the "flame" that triggers the alarm.. any suggestions on settings for cutting with the x tool F1? I know you said you use the D1 for mass production, but have you used the F1 and can possibly give some tips and settings on using the F1?

250 for 30 seconds then check the appearance and adhesion. If they feel binder we’ll leave it but most people go for longer than 30. It’s a process that allows for some experimentation

Great video! Considering a D1 pro 10W. Also what software do you use?

I’m using xTools software XCS and it works great. Definitely look into the D1 Pro if your doing hat work. I would suggest the 20W or 40W if your interested in working with thicker materials though. Good luck 👊🏻

Does that press leave marks on the cap?
@TheReformationWoodshop

It can if your heat and time and tension settings are off. I believe all presses will if your settings aren’t correct.

Did you make your own elastic band or is it a custom size for hats you ordered somewhere? I have some heat safe tape I’m considering using, have you tried it?

It’s a band my wife had laying around that I tied to be the right size. 👍🏻
