I have the same hat press. I found out that the dial may say 300 degree's but when I used a infrared laser to check the temps, it was really around 270F. Since I've made the change and run my temp to 330 @ 30 seconds, my patches are staying on. I'm placing my patches across the front seam too. I buy my leather from HYDBOND.

are you getting an outline of the center seam in your patch?
@mlorenzana71
@mlorenzana71 7 месяцев назад
You have to take the orange top off and make sure that the plate is laying against the plate that you see. Sometimes they're separation between the actual heating plate inside underneath the cap. It should be right up against the other one so it's even heat. Otherwise you're going to get a cooler temperature. Very easy fix

Hey Matt, hope all is well with you. Just a quick question on the JDS patches. Used about 125 of them so far and they have been absolutely awesome. But, I just received a batch that the paper backing keeps falling off of them, where the others had to be peeled when you get ready to heat press them. The ones that the backing is falling off are not adhering at all. It's like the adhesive is not melting. Have you had any issues like this and, if so, any ideas on solutions? I'm using the orange automatic Vevor press set at 300 for 30 seconds. That setting has worked for over 100 hats before. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and thanks for your videos!!

Matt, question for you. I see all of the patches you are doing in this vid are off to the side of the seam running down the center of the hat. Is this to avoid a "seam lump" down the center of the patch? How would a hat look if you did put the patch dead center, using this press? Would the seam imprint through the patch? I ask because I am on the verge of buying this press, and in my new business so far, people seem to want the patch centered.

Hey man I’ve got the same press and it works great however it’s leaving burn marks down the seam of the hat? My settings are 285 for 20 secs

Burn marks down the seam of the hat that seems like it’s too hot, but you’re a lot colder than my settings. I don’t know what to tell you.

I’m gonna try and put something under to relieve pressure from the seam but what’s the perfect setting you recommend 300 at 30?
@laserengravingwithmatt

Yes, using the silicone sheet

I just got one and am having problems with the Richardson 112 hats. When I put the patch in the center of the hat I am getting creases on both the right and left sides of the patch in the hat. Thats running the heat at 300 for 30 sec. If I run the heat or time any lower the patch does not bond all the way around the patch. Then I have to heat it again and the creases become worse. I have tried a microfiber towel under the hat and still have the same problem. So far I am not impressed. Do you have any suggestions on solving the creases in the hats when you put the patches in the center of a Richardson 112 hat? I have no problems when I put the patch on either the right or left side of center or a hat that has no seam in the center. Thanks

I use the middle bottom pad and a silicone mat. Make sure you are not pushing it to far on it should be flush

@@laserengravingwithmatt Thank you Matt. I folded a smaller microfiber towel four times and put it in between the hat and the pad just in the location where the patch is and have had much better resultes. That eliminated any space that is not filled between the hat and the pad.
