You are such an amazing person, taking the time not only to teach us how to do these projects, but helping us with the materials and tools needed to get the job done. Thank you, your hard work and dedication to your craft, your family and us in RU-vid land is inspiring!
Great video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Proutklarton Money plant Plan (search on google)? It is a good exclusive product for learning how to make a massive income by launching your own internet business without the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my m8 got excellent results with it.
I’ve found that the sample size containers at Lowe’s and Home Depot are great when you don’t need a lot of one color of paint or want to try a new color out
I just wanted to say thank you for all of your videos - the time and content you put into them is amazing, and so very much appreciated! I watch a couple videos each day and take copious notes. Hoping to start a business this Spring/Summer. Thank you again!
Thank you!!!! I have been looking up stuff online trying to figure out exactly what I need to buy to start making signs. This was by far the most helpful! You just straight out said this is what you need to buy!! Can’t find many videos like this. Thank you!
Thank you Sallie for the video, I have watched all of your videos so far, would love to see more. I started making wood signs a couple of months ago and started off using Luan board, but after watching your videos, I couldn’t wait to use the 1/2” birch plywood. I’m still working on my aim with my brad nailer. Your tip for using the edge of the table, helped a lot. I am working on having my own sign business one day soon, so I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience & tips with us.
Wow!! You are selfless and you have a good kind sweet heart. You've just shared with the world how to create keepsakes and make some money. Thank you, its motivating!
I am loving your videos! You are so kind in sharing these how to videos to help others that may want to start selling online. I just got a cricut and am no where near ready to sell goods from that but have so many friends and coworkers that want me to start selling other craft items like my wreaths online. My biggest fear of starting that is then having to start figuring out how to claim the money made on annual taxes. Right now anything I have sold has been sold at only the cost of materials. So I really make nothing from them. I have no clue how to go about selling and claiming the sales as an income/business.
Looking for something to do to help supplement my current job so we can pay off the mortgage. Thinking about making wood signal. I know the market is saturated but I also think it’s how you market it and the care you take in the presentation that can make all the difference. ❤
Thank you for sharing, your videos are a great help and inspiration. I am such a baby, afraid to use the power tools, I guess I have to get over that fear quick.
I am so glad they help! Its totally ok to be nervous, I was too in the beginning but as long as you are aware of your surroundings and wear eye protection and gloves, and learn your machine, you'll be just fine! 😊
Same here...I'm also nervous having something laying around as my little one is always 'curious'...I'm going to buy my wood already cut - rather than buying a circular saw etc x
I have tried tempered hardboard in the past, and had a lot of issues with the stencil ripping paint and the hardboard off. Maybe there's a trick to it that I don't know!
I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. I’ll do some experimenting in the shop to see if there’s something that you can put on the surface before painting. If I come up with a solution I’ll let you know.
Hey Sallie! I just came across your videos today and I’m in love already! I’ve already found a few new products that I plan to buy 😊 I’m new to making signs so I love that you have videos to help us beginners out. Could you possibly do a video on the hanging equipment you use for your wood signs? I’ve been stuck at this point for a while and would love any advice you could give. 👍🏽
I have been doing woodwork for years, and can tell you that for the ligt use for these signs (not on a construction job sight)...go with harbor freight tools. You will spend about 1/2 to 1/3...keep your nail gun oiled after each use and it will last for years. Simple to do Tools are like everything...like cars. You can buy a Toyota Camry or a ferrari... the Toyota will get you there just as well...maybe not as flashy, but it absolutely works. When you make money...upgrade to Dewalt or Ryobi Also...the Hart brand at Walmart is excellent for circular saw, sander, drill...
Thanks so much Sallie, you deserve the best! Where do you buy your Minwax stains, Home Depot does not carry it anymore. I would like you to share how you go about pricing your wood signs & the profit you make.
What type of wood and paint would you suggest for a sign that will be outside in all types of weather? Love your videos and am in your FB group. You have such a gift of explaining and teaching!! Thank you for all that you do to help us!
Hello Sallie, Thank you so much for sharing all the valuable information for making great signs. I am a new subscriber and looking forward to learning more from you! I do have a couple questions that I hope you can answer for me. When you make your frames, do you just attach them to the sign or do you cut a groove in the frame and slide in the plywood? Do you do anything with the corners of the sign, like cut at an angle or do you just butt them up against each other? I was looking at several signs online and it seems like there are lots of options but I'm not sure which is the easiest, cost effective, nicest-looking way----which is why I thought I'd ask you since you've done signs for a long time! One other question for now (I have more questions but don't want to take up too much of your time!!!) About a week ago, Mike and Pam Curtis left a suggestion but I'm wondering what "tempered hardboard" is. Also other than price, how is it different than the plywood you suggested? Thanks again for your great video....I'm looking forward to going back and watching all your other videos! Donna
Hi! I attach my frames to my sign with a brad nailer, and don't do any angles, just butt them together. I do have a video on how I make my framed signs 😊 Tempered hardboard is a hard material that doesn't do well when wet. Some people make signs with it, but if you will be doing this for a business I wouldn't suggest using it to sell! The look I go for with my frames, I wouldn't be able to do with this type of material because of how thin it is.
Thank you for all your videos!!! They are so helpful! Do you use wood filler for any of the knots that you come across on your wood boards? Thanks you!
Thanks! Super helpful and informative! I've been having a really hard time with the white paint "yellowing" - or suddenly having little yellow streaks or spots show up. Do you have any suggestions on how to combat that? Thanks so much!
I am using chalk paint and the stencil vinyl is 1. Pulling up pieces of the paint of my base color and 2. Leaving a sticky residue on the sign. Do you have any suggestions to combat this issue?
This might be a stupid question (I didn’t know these machines existed until this evening) but is there a limit to how long the transfer is. If that makes sense. I’ve seen her making the signs and she makes quite long transfer. I’ve been looking at the cricut, can it be done on that as I’ve only seen people doing small designs?
Hi Sallie! I am loving your content! I am starting my side business this week. Actually, my Cameo 4 is arriving today. I am curious about the business side of things. Do you use quickbooks or something similar? Also, how do you track inventory? For example, you buy a 1" x 6" x 8' from Lowes. You can make three or four signs from that one piece of lumber. Does your business software convert it for you or do you use another method? I guess the same scenario applies to a roll of vinyl. One roll equals X amount of decals. I just want to make sure I get my taxes correct. I have been watching a lot of RU-vid videos and your videos have been the most helpful by far! Thank you for the great content! Gary in east Tennessee.
New subscriber, love the video. New cricut owner and plan on using it for stencels..thanks. and I also think you may be the most beautiful lady I have ever seen!!! ( Not hitting on you, just stating fact) 😉
Thankyou for sharing your experience. Please can you specify what is the type of paint you showed in this video is it water based ? Sorry for asking but in my country I won’t find the exact type of paint so Im trying to guess what type of paint you use. Thank-you God bless.
It is basically regular wall paint like you would get at a home improvement store. Make sure to get a semi-gloss type paint. It is water based. Hope this helps!!
Im just starting an etsy shop. Id like to make wood signs and accent pillows and some holiday decor items. Everyone says all my items should sort of be the same. Like all pillows, etc. What do you think?
I think since they are all within the "home decor" theme it will be perfectly fine! I offer lots of different items. I think the only reason you'd want to do different shops was if you offered TOTALLY different things(like soap and costumes). Hope this helps!
Do you have issues cutting straight with a circular saw? My neighbor has a table saw but I don't want to take advantage of him so was looking into getting a circular saw to cut plywood myself.
My husband usually cuts for me with the circular saw, but he said its not too hard. I will measure and draw lines on what to cut and we just cut it this way 😊 it's definitely doable just be very careful.
