I got a Vevor 14" bandsaw in for review. I thought this is a great time to talk about bandsaws in general as well as specifics about the Vevor.
After using this saw for awhile, I highly recommend it especially for entry level users. It is feature rich and affordable!

Its always nice getting a new saw! I just have a Grizzley 555 with a 6 inch riser kit. I don't use it for wood turning as much as i thought but it does get pretty regular use. I whish it had a bigger motor. I originally split some logs in half for bowl blanks but most of the stuff I get is tree limbs in various lengths so i just use the chainsaw to cut into length and split at the same time. I'm doing that this week. I enjoy working with chainsaws but as an old guy-a 1949 model- I have to limit my time with them. Good luck with your saw!

Phil, I bought one from Vevor 14 inch. I have a question if you happen to know about this. My bottom wheel is not aligned with my upper wheel. The blade runs in the middle on the upper wheel but on the edge on the bottom wheel towards the door, almost to come loose. What's that thing in the back of the machine bottom wheel held with 4 screws? Is that an adjustment for the bottom wheel? If not how do I adjust the bottom wheel to be coplanar and parallel with the upper one? Thank you for your time.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
I understand the question and what you are talking about, Darin. I just went to look at mine and I think it's clear that, yes, those four screws are for adjusting the bottom wheel. I can't find my manual! On mine, the top wheel is centered and on the bottom the blade is slightly towards the front. The top is what is important but, I get it, you sure don't want the blade to come off. Have you checked your manual? I know the instructions are not always clear. It's probably just the top and bottom screws you need to adjust and ever so slightly as you go. Best of luck!

Hi Phil, Another interesting video as always...and the deer were a great addition. Does your new bandsaw have a foot break? I have a Laguna 14/12 with very similar sawing capacity to your new purchase but it does not have a foot break...I wish it did. Another You Tuber, Richard Raffan, also has a Laguna 14/12 without a foot break and he uses wooden scraps to pinch the blade to make it stop faster. Please keep the great videos coming. Take Care, Myles
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
No, no foot break, Myles but the blade does seem to come to a stop fairly quickly. 😃

Hey there Phil! Your title says "Everything You Wanted To Know About Bandsaws" but there was at least one thing that you didn't cover and my question is: Can bandsaws make me look young again or at least more attractive to the women? I desperately need any tips you could offer. I had to laugh at your reference to the metric system. I guess that's what we grew up with and tradition is difficult to throw by the wayside. Metric at least gives me an option when I'm working in small scale and the imperial system, thumb widths and the distance from my knuckle to fingertip just doesn't cut the mustard. I also had a flashback to my first public school shop class with the teacher explaining the machines and secretly praying that we didn't cut our heads off on one of them, although, by midyear, he was probably hoping that some of us would get more creative. Now I want a band saw again but who do I ask to move out so I can use their room as a shop? Good instructional Phil! I really don't want to gravitate towards grisly but if you're holding a goodly-sized chunk of wood and have a good arm, you could put some venison on the table after curing and that band saw would come in mighty handy doing the trimming. Sorry about the ramble. I need the company of a woman to keep me centered. Got any tips? By the way... when the deer were passing through and in front of your dog house, I saw some movement in there and it looked human. I think you have a squatter (or a ghost squatter). Be careful and carry a goodly-sized chunk of wood.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Well, it worked for me, Steve. Women are beating my door down now that I have a new bandsaw! Cleaning a woodcutting bandsaw after sawing up some fresh game just isn't a fun afternoon! As for the squatter, I always have my Uncle Ruger in my pocket. Thanks for giggles! 😃

Can we get an update now that you have likely used it a few more days? I'm just curious if there are any more issues that have popped up or if you are still happy with it. I was going to buy a 10" Rikon for $600, for woodturning use, but was checking this out with it's greater capacity. Your review has me seriously considering this over the Rikon/Jet models. Thanks for a great video! Just curious, what state are you in? The nature looks very similar to my own neck of the woods.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
No issues with the saw, Jason. It has done everything I ask of it. Just make sure you have the right blade for the job and you are golden. I'm in Washington state. 😃
@daringetae5136
@daringetae5136 Год назад
Phil, there is no reference in the manual about that adjustment in the back of the machine for the rear wheel. Indeed to bring it to the center have to release the blade tension, loosen all four nuts and screw in the bottom one. Not much just one full rotation and tighten back all four nuts after that. But what I'm dealing with right now is straight line cut. Try on yours to cut straight a 2x4 on its length, just like resawing. My blade drifts to the right after cutting one inch straight with the fence on. I tried everything so far with no luck. Not sure if a 1/2 inch blade can do that though. I will be buying a 3/4 one to give it a try. Please let me know if yours drifts also because if you are able to do that it means I'm missing something here. Thank you.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
The drift problem can have many factors causing it, Darin. Dull blade, the set of the teeth, the grain of the wood, feed rate, etc. Many people do not use the fence for ripping because you can't control the cut once it starts to run off the line. You can clamp a piece of wood, say 1x2" with a rounded nose on it and use that as a fulcrum to follow your cut line. The fence is fine for rough cuts like I use mine for when ridding a piece of wood of bits sticking out that I don't want to deal with on the lathe. The bandsaw, as you know, is a curve cutting machine, not a ripping machine. 😊

...very cool...I can't find much info on this, but I see it uses an excitation motor...this means it does not use magnets and needs a startup excitation current to get the motor turning. I suspect the delay is built in to allow the magnetic field to be built up before hitting the motor with full voltage...👍 Matt
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Interesting, I did not know that, thanks, Matt! 😃

Phil! Thank you so much for this video! It was awesome! I just bought a new bandsaw..it's aHarbor Freight bandsaw, 14", but you helped me understand more about bandsaw One question though...can one still get a fence for it from another manufacturer? My blade keeps turning/cutting to the right. As you figured out, I'm new to bandsaws
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
There are universal fit bandsaw fences available, Lori. It may involve drilling holes in the edge of your table for the fence guide to be attached and then the fence attaches to that. There are also magnetic fences as long as you don't have an aluminum table. That said, a fence probably won't solve your problem. When the blade wants to always cut one direction or the other, it can be a couple things. Tension may not be set right. Try tightening that up a bit or, even loosening it might help. But, it's probably the blade itself. Less expensive blades will have a tooth set more to one side then the other. Or, it can happen if the blade is dull. Sometimes you can just make up for it by anticipating which way the blade is going to want to cut and adjust your feed position to accommodate it. I know, I know, nothing is ever easy! 😃

I was hoping for something to resaw exotic wood for small boxes, with another blade of course. The 1.5hp would be an upgrade from my .75hp motor on my current vintage Rockwell bandsaw. The added cutting height would be a plus as well. I’m a 1942 model 81 soon and find the same thing it gets a bit tiring after the first hour or two but we are all still mobile and enjoying our wood experiences so I’m not complaining. Love that new bandsaw ,mines and old Tanner that a professional Woodturner owned and used for many years then upgraded to a new model. I am hoping to use it some time in the future, if I ever get my founds from the Uk I am hoping to finish my windows, I use to buy timber from the imports 6x12 and rough cut it to size then stack it for a month or so, from around 2006 to 2017 I was making a lot of windows and doors, were my work shop was on a farm, that I was renting, the farmer owned a serious amount of property, which inquired a lot of work, old barns and large houses, just one property needed 25 windows and 6 external doors, just this one job took around 13/4 months, I had to fit them as well as I/ and the farmer didn’t trust anyone else to fit them, just one window cost around £3000/£4000 + glass. Hey Phil, your new band saw might be slow to get to full speed by design to prevent the instant max load start up that would normally dim your lights, etc. in the shop. I could easily live with it. In less than four days my to-do list built up another 9 chores on the list. It's 87 here in Florida with a killer UV and it got the best of me yesterday. So now I have a two-hour window for the early morning outside work and unlimited hours for the inside with the AC on work. With the only exception of a daily 2-hour afternoon power nap. I love your stuff. Most interesting - and helpful. I have a different kind of inquiry - about finishing. You use rags or cloth to apply sanding sealer and finish. What kind that does not appear to leave lint? Do you wash or reuse the cloths or are they one time things? How do you get the finish from the manufacturer's can to the little one you use for actually putting it on the work - without spilling or otherwise making a mess? Do you reuse your brushes or are they one time items? How do you clean the brushes and other items. You get the idea. I haven't used shellac since I was a kid but you have opened up a whole new world - and not just finishes. Thanks.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Thank you, Stephen! I just buy a Bag O Rags from Home Depot. They are cotton. I use them until they are just too saturated to absorb anymore shellac. I keep them in a tightly sealed baggie along with the brush I use. The rags might last 10-15 pieces, the brushes about 5 pieces. I throw them away when done with them. I use a funnel to pour from the quart can into my little squeeze bottle.

Nice looking bandsaw. Here in the UK, the size that is given is usually the wheel diameter (though that isn't very different to the throat size), so a bandsaw described as 14 inches may be a little smaller than yours. Mine (Lumberjack BS340) is described as 14", but only has a max cutting depth of 9"
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Others have mentioned using wheel diameter to determine bandsaw size as well, Alex. The problem with that, for me, is what happens when you have a three wheeled bandsaw? Don't see them much anymore but they used to be common. I'm going with throat size! LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! 😃

Thanks for that Phil. I wish my 14 inch bandsaw had that height for resawing and cutting tall blanks. Nice one! Cheers, Rick

Boy, what a deal, Phil! Solid steel should hold up as well as cast iron. 5% discount is still on, with free shipping. Costs about what my fine old Delta 14" bandsaw cost over 20 years ago.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
I've had a few of those old Delta's over the years and they are great saws, built like a tank! The thing the newer saws have over the Delta is larger tables. Those really come in handy when handling larger pieces for the lathe. 😃

The only time will if that bandsaw holds up. They did cut corners to get the price under $1000. It must be new as your the only comment on Amazon so far.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
Well, yes and no about the corner cutting. It's loaded with features. Just missing cast iron table and wheels but has other features many bandsaws don't. I'm sure it's brand new, this is the only video review that I could find, too. 😃

Hi Phil as always I enjoyed your video and it was a great overview of the Vevor. I am curious about one thing that being the what the fourteen inch designation means. I was always told it was an indication of the diameter of the wheels which is true on my 14 inch Delta (the throat is just over 13 inches) if you get the chance it would interesting to know if the wheels on the Vevor are also 14 inches. Thanks and looking forward to more Phil A content. Dave D
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
I've heard the wheel diameter is used also, Dave. 😃 I just went to measure the Vevor and they are just under 14". The problem with using wheel diameter as an indicator of bandsaw size designation comes when you have a three-wheeled bandsaw. Those wheels are much smaller. What then? I'm going to stick with throat width. It just makes the most sense to me. 😃

Congratulations on your new Bandsaw Phil, It looks like it has a lot of features that the more expensive saws have. I put a 6" riser on my 14" bandsaw so I would be able to cut some of the larger Olive wood pieces without having to use a chainsaw. bandsaws make woodworking so much easier. bookend cuts and the such. Thank you for sharing.

Great piece of equipment, Phil, and lovely sunny weather on Shady Acres, so peaceful with the deer stopping by 😊 On our farm, we have a very old and rusty bandsaw that was used by my grandfather and my father way over 100 years ago... People often stop and take pictures of it when they walk by walking their dogs, it looks frightening, and it is, I can tell from experience... We used to play with it when we were children, one of us speeding up the belt and another one holding the piece of wood trying to get a clean cut... Thank God nothing ever happened... My Dad took out the blade when he was older and did not use it anymore, but it still stands in all its rusty splendor. Compared to that, your beautiful new bandsaw looks like science fiction 😂 Great demo, Phil, thank you 🙏🏻
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
I would gladly trade this one for your grandfather's, Morning Song. They don't make them like that anymore! I'm very familiar with some of the older equipment. Made to do the job by someone that knows what they are doing without the aid of any safety devices except common sense. Nowadays I'm afraid people would cut their arms off just walking near one! 😃
