I enjoy turning natural pieces, mostly bowls. I try to leave as much nature in a piece as possible. Bark and bark inclusions, voids, cracks, are left alone for the most part. Though I've been turning for a few years I still consider myself to be in the learning stages. I would love it if you would come along for the ride. I'm sure we can share with each other what we have learned along the way.
What a delightful little bowl Phil. For the first time I thought I could envision what you were going to do as you described it. As usual I was wrong and what you designed was just beautiful. I imagined the widest parts just coming up and out but you curved them back over so they have a lovely tongue like shape. My goodness isn't the finish gorgeous too?! Such lovely colours...😊 As always thank you, I really enjoyed that and I'm pleased to say that this week I'm back to my preferred routine of watching early on a Friday morning, UK time. I get to take my Lansoprazole, watch your video for twenty minutes, make a quick comment then it's the right time to have breakfast. What a lovely start to my day, I've missed this. Cheers Phil.👍
She is a cutie, Phil. But...where are the animals? This piece proves there is beauty and function available in just about all pieces of wood. Thank you!
Well you did it again!!! I couldn't imagine what you could get out of that piece of wood. You turned it into the prettiest little bowl!!! Have a great weekend. 🙂
Good afternoon 😂 Phil, Juniper Wood, 🪵, it has always amaze me how the colour can change dramatically, you were a thought the way it grows it would’ve slowly change colour, but it is definitely defined, And yes, it’s a little cutie, I think you said the ladies name was Judy. I bet she would love that back., Catch up with you again next week, From the Hog , 😂
Good morning 🌅, Phil, I haven’t finished watching 👀 yet , but I just seen a face in the bottom, 13-34 , sort of reminds me of a sloth, 🦥 😂, I now carry on watching again
Stunning, you nailed it, its the perfect size as is, it wouldn't be right if it were any larger. That's a keeper for your best of life's work display stand/case ?.
Turned out very nice. But like my 7th grade art teacher said, “Art is not ‘cute’’. It may be pretty, beautiful, petite or interesting, but never cute!” His way of dealing with giggling 7th grade girls who called everything they liked “cute”. 😵💫🤣🤣🤣 So I won’t say cute, but instead praise it as a beautiful little bowl with very interesting colors, grain and bark. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Phil, anoth fine work of art, but I’m commenting about your running cometary. I have commented before but I feel it worth repeating. You are an excellent turner, as well as a lot of other folks who post their work. Difference is that you tell us your thoughts and reasons. Your videos are so much more valuable to me as I know what you are doing as well as why. That is soooo much better than a good turner who puts a chunk of wood on the lath, and says nothing. To me the thought process is more important than just turning something and not saying a word..
I love the wavy pattern on the outside. Beautiful! I always wonder about juniper. Hubby has to trim ours because I can’t touch them without gloves and long sleeves. Maybe a hazmat suit. 🙄 Everywhere the branches touch me I get red welts. Clearly, turning the wood doesn’t bother your skin, so either the wood isn’t the same as the branches, or you’re not sensitive to it. I have no idea if you know, but shoot … doesn’t cost to ask! 😇
Hey I have a piece of Myrtle wood I’ve been looking at for awhile, wondering how to turn it. I was thinking about sending it to you because you are a wizard at creating from odd shaped wood. Would you be interested and if so how would I get it to you. I’m in Klamath Falls and picked up some Myrtle wood from a lady in Medford that has property in Coos Bay she is clearing. I would love to see what you could do with it.
I love that you took the time to set things up the night before so you’d enjoy your morning. A little gift to your future self. And the bowl turned out beautifully!
