This reminds me of my little brother and I. I’m a terrible role model and certainly not fit to tech him how to be in life. Heck I don’t even know how to be. I’m still a kid. I’m just a kid! And he’s the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. He looks up to me so much and I don’t want to hurt him or let him down. It’s funny he thinks that he is looking up to me. Really, I have to get on his level a bit more. “I’ll fall on my knees” that is me praying that I won’t screw this up that I won’t hurt him or fail him. I’ve had experience with bad parental figures in the past and I’m just not fit for kids. I punched my wall this morning out of anger. What could I do to him? What will he do to me? Rip my heart to pieces is what he will do. This kid. Geeze someone help me, I can’t mess up this kid.
You give your best in every moment, right? That's it. You only can give your best. Especially when you are hurt from past experiences. Maybe you need warmth and healing for your own heart. And then step by step you also can give more and more of your own warmth to your brother. I know what it feels like to hurt, I really do. It takes a lot of courage to keep going on in this world. You are definitely couragous. I think your brother knows that.
This might be a little late, but I have a younger brother too. Raised him ever since I was seven, parents were always at work and so I became almost like a second mother. I get it, the pressure and the reality that you are shaping this kid's life with your actions and words. So take it one step at a time, you'll be different from your parents. You are different. Treat him as how you wish you had been treated as a kid, with compassion and patience. Let him see that there's a brighter and safe place for him and a pair of arms that will always be there. Just remember that you're never in it alone, and sometimes a kid might feel as a burden. All you can do is do what you can, he won't blame you for that. No one will blame you. Have courage. This is the anthem of my life. I have heard this many times but today at 5 in the morning, having no sleep yet, this made me cry like something is calling me. I know what to do in my life, but my life is a broken puzzle. Danger will follow me (every time I try to be a good person, I find myself hurting other people, but I don't want to hurt anyone and it makes me feel so low). I am tired of this cycle.
