I had a 9mm end mill blow up in my face when I was fat fingering the jog wheel. Wasn't wearing glasses, luckily the shrapnel only hit my forehead.

I’m an ironworker apprentice and I wear a face shield using the grinding/cutting wheel, guys make jokes but they also tell me about people they’ve seen get hit, I’m all set with that

i need your advice what you would do if you wore glasses. wear safety glasses over it? or get contacts and wear safety glasses that way? or just ditch the glasses for safety glasses? im recieving glowing metal dust in my eyes regularly

That takes me back about 40 years when working in a TV/video service workshop. Having replaced a 63V electrolytic in a TV and working close to the board checking voltages on the powered circuit, the cap exploded close to my face! - fortunately no harm done ecept for some ringng in my ears. Examining the remains of the device more closely afterwards I could see a faint 'dot' - it was a 6.3V not 63V cap which had ended up in the wrong drawer by mistake💥 Be safe .............

Just a heads up, once I was wearing my goggles and a cap blew and it shot right up my nose. Almost had to go to the hospital to get it out but got lucky with some skilled tweezers dexterity and got it pulled out. So just be aware, goggles are not always the only safety gear necessary...

Once one hit me on the forehead and left a black ring, I always use pieces of sheet metal to insulate the capacitors after that. ,be careful please

I know the feeling of a cap on my forehead... I didn't check the polarity when I replaced a small one and it popped nearly immediately when I powered the board. 🤷‍♂

I was an avionics technician for 35 years. I've had electrolytic capacitors explode in my face. (especially if they accidentally got put in backwards. oops. lol) If I hadn't been wearing my safety glasses, I could have really been sorry!

When thermally isolating chemical capacitors, you must insulate them from the top and sides as well, because they are exposed to hot air reflected from the targeted heating point.

I have nothing but praise for Northridge fix's shop. Can you get some of the stuff elsewhere?, yes but you may have to wait a month or more from china and if something is wrong you may be out of luck. I get most of my supplies from them and when I have had to contact their customer service, they are always top notch. Also have to mention the knowledge Alex passes on is priceless. I found him when I was having a skill issues and his tricks took care of it. Just the other day the grinding pen and NF mini came in handy when a gauge cluster I was working on had corroded and missing traces. Those two tools got it back up and running. Thank you to the NF team

At 20:06 you already knew the issue with aluminum electrolytic capacitors but you removed the MOSFET without a shield over the capacitors that also blocked the side where the heat was. I'm very happy you were not seriously injured. p.s. Anytime I've ordered supplies from your store, they are always shipped the same day. I've never been disappointed with the speed of delivery.

Always be cautious about safety gear because they always happen everytime we felt comfortable without them🥹🥹🥹 And I knew all the safety gear quite a hassle especially for the clarity etc. And for this type of job that xneed a very strong protection maybe you can fine a light safety glass that is super clear but maybe a bit pricier… AND…I saw on another channel that a specialist on repairing graphic card they used a custom DIY made thin shield for the cap made from a beverages aluminium can and just put a keplon tape of what ever the name is so the heat won’t transfer and that also shield the side of the cap(like in this video maybe the heat come from the uncovered side) Stay safe! And healthy!

Is this what they mean by "pop a cap in 'em"? All jokes aside, I'm glad you posted this as a warning to others in the trade, or aspiring in the trade, that they do need to be careful around those bad boys. I hope you take some further precautions in the future (you did have the cap covered), as I'm sure your family wants you home whole and hearty at the end of the day.

There is heat protecting putty on the market. Using that would prevent such issues. It's reusable (it changes color once degraded) and safe for up to brazing temperatures.

Oh EVGA what a shock, you see even EVGA is not immune to poor quality control, corner cutting and all that shit. I've had many failures with BFG, one of the WORST, good riddance they went bankrupt, their lifetime warranty was a big scam. As far as EVGA, yeah their shit was no better, though they provided good support. I only go with ASUS now, can't go wrong.

Yep - I agree - Please PLEASE wear safety glasses - because once your eyes get injured - it'll never be the same and at your age the older you get the slower your body is able to repair itself -And I know this is to be true because of a bad fire burn I witnessed - it's not as easy as when you're young ... Great video. Would the short you created with the solder blob show up as a heat spot on the thermal camera? I would have been chasing my tail with that.
