For anyone here who is not a musician, I just wanna say to play this like you see hear, is truly remarkable and a testament to the human potential. Its just unbelievable.
@@margaretlavender9647 It's pretty customary to use this contraction these days. Most of all, you're drawing away from this man's insightful comment about the genius of Evgeny Kissin.
There are times when art overwhelms all that humanity does that it should not. Chopin and Kissin does this. I cannot understand why everyone on the planet does not listen to this everyday. Unfortunately kids are not exposed to this enough. It makes me said beyond words. Creating is what we were made for, creating beauty and joy.
Just went to his concert and heard this piece live. He is on a different level now. Give Kissin 10 more years he will be the greatest pianist of the past century.
1:25 ish a miss hit on a note as well as 1:30ish, i paused im sure there is more...i agree how could someone not like this, but its already far from perfect, i paused it at 1:33.
his right hand parts are honestly kind of sloppy, hes hitting 2 notes at once on accident, or weakly playing some of the notes. unless thats how the original chopan piece was ment to be played or thats Kissins "interpretation"
@@McRat1968 I agree with your musical comments. However, I am an American. Not all of us are...dumb. One thing that is wrong with our world today is prejudice, bigotry and hate. I agree that Bob's comments are stupid. But the fact that one is an American has nothing to do with it. I love, love, love Kissin's Chopin. It is flawless.
@@janetgrooms6377 Point taken. You're right: not all modern-day Americans are dumb. Unfortunately, more fall into that fact by the day. And the ever-growing amount of stupid movies and tv shows are the reason why. You should have seen when I tried debating about my favorite solo classical piece, the Chopin Posthumous Nocturne in C Sharp Minor. A number of people referred to it as "that song from Karate Kid." (Few Americans these days want to learn about Nocturnes, Etudes, Symphonies, Concertos, etc. I keep hearing and/or reading the word "song" more and more.)
Rengar Main popular (dumbed down) music was always there, even Mozart had to write some to finally make some money. At the time this kind of complex music was hardly accessible to most people. But today, thanks to digital recordings and RU-vid, more people can - and do - listen to Chopin than ever before. So I wouldn’t worry too much :)
@@currentlyspeakingbmwmusic1793 Visit Warsaw! It's like he's a sports star. Chopin everything, including free chopin piano concerts in the main park, and the chopin museum, etc. Polish kids definitely know about chopin.
Amazing. I was truly moved by this performance. His emotion and touch throughout was spot-on; I don't care if accuracy suffered slightly (only slightly) and no one else cared either.
I've been watching the performances of this years Chopin Competition, and nobody has quite the courage or depth to explore the music quite like Kissing does in this live recital. Part of it is the piano is extraordinarily bright, so he has to have great control to execute his musical ideas. There's another aspect, too. His heart expresses the music without hindrance of impressing judges or anyone other than his authenticity to interpreting Chopin.
He doesn't have to impress judges. He's not competing. He's probably a judge himself. I love how he sounds so spontaneous. Bright piano really is beautiful.
An artist without confidence in his own artistic vision is no artist at all. You may disagree with Kissin's interpretation or approach to storytelling, but his implentation and execution are flawless. So, either you like it or not, but there's nothing to be criticized here. It's immaculate but it simply may not suit your taste and that's fine. Beautiful work Mr. Kissin.
Too often, people judge performances on their own opinion. There is nothing wrong with having an opinion, but artists often may not share it with you. Or perhaps they are just playing how the music is written. Decided by the composer. So stop criticizing! trevorpinnocky is right! There is nothing to be criticized.
You are right. Kissin "is in a category by himself". He is unique! Have you heard his rendition of the Moonlight Sonata, the Schumann Fantasia, the Rachmaninov Concerto no. 2, etc ? And many others? Absolutely gorgeous!
And you have not yet said anything about his performance palying one of Schumann's sonatas. Try that and you will realice your praises on him are short...
He and Yundi Li are in a league of their own . When its all said and done he may be regarded as the greatest loved pianist ever just by his sheer number of youtube views. He attacks this piece like a tiger but my favorite of his is Rage over lost peeny by Beethoven and Chopin's Barcorolle which is truly transcendent
One of the things I most respect about Kissin is that he knows what he can play and what he can't. His style works so wonderfully for pieces like this.
Such a genius, simply captures the audience! So extraordinarily and even crazily talented musician! Every audience will fall for you!!!! I wish I was there to hand you a bouquet of flowers ....
Out of all the versions of this piece, Kissin's is my all-time favorite, this is quite an outstanding performance, I can't help but join the applauses at the end of the video every time I listen to it. Bravo!
I love when Chopin performers bring out the inner voices in his music (like Kissin does in the Spianato at 2:30 and following). Often performers fail to do that, even when Chopin carefully notates the inner voices.
Tim Ward: I agree. You might enjoy the Chopin performances of K. Zimerman. Here is a link to this piece. David Hertzberg has posted several. Zimerman is quite an artist. I hope you will give him a listen. Best regards. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uponsweZY20.html
The urtext doesn't have this. Chopin accents the 3rd and 9th semiquavers in 55 and 56. Similarly in 59 and 60. Not the two A's in 55 and 59,and b and f sharp in 56 and 60. Lots of pianists do this, and it's lovely, but not what Chopin marked.
There are so many pianist playing this piece, Andante Spianato and i found this pianist is at his best to orchestrate in piano. I love to watch and to hear over and over again. Well Done...
This is the true heart of Evgeny, void of pretentious romanticism. It is as pure as Evgeny gets. I've honestly never heard a much more sincere rendition of this piece in todays time than this. Dramatized romanticism has no place in this recording. If that is what you're looking for I say look elsewhere because there are thousands that will meet your need.
Anyone who has something so bad to say about this incredibly talented man is a fool, lost in their own opinions and self worth. He is the best and for so very long, for very good reason. Shame, on those who are spiteful. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, don't comment. Most people are no where near the level of Kissin or any concert pianist for that matter to even comment.
***** "his sound is not that warm touching sound..." please stop right there, because if thats the case, your "critical ear" as you call it, is, well...garbage...sorry. If you dont know any recordings of him, youre an ignorant fool...How can you actually have an opinion on him, if you dont know anything...why do I even bother with these internet trolls
I do know that...and Im familiar with every single pianist you mentioned....its a little more complex when you try to state it...I know there are different opinions and i do respect them, I dont respect when someone is calling kissin an ordinary pianist, while every single note he plays costs him so much energy...look at his expressions...And the fact you dont see that, is called, a lack of empathy...
***** I get your opinion, I listened to this specific recording a couple of times the last days and I know what you mean. There a definetly, like you call it "warmer" interpretations, and I can understand why you prefer that sound. I do so myself on certain pieces. But!: You cant forget that this is a polonaise, its not a ballade, its not a prelude or nocturne. And Kissin plays it like a polonaise, he doesnt overplay the romance in this piece. It stays very firm, but at the same time, he plays the right parts with a very warm touch. Actually, when I heard this interpretation the first time, I was suprised with how soft he plays the first note of the melody. A lot of pianist play that note more mezzo forte, while kissin decided to play it piano. I get what you mean, but I stick with my statement, that this is the right way to play it for my taste! kissin nailed it. Still i apologize for my first comment, I couldve started this discussion in a more mature way.
I totally agree with the last comment about Kissin being on another level now … I just attended his concert in Carnegie Hall 3 days ago where he concluded his recital with this piece … Kissin is just like very good wine : getting better and better with the year ! His Grande Polonaise was just … phenomenal
"The Pianist" brought me here and Evgeny Kissin kept me here :] Chopin's polonaises always make me so happy to listen to and this time was no exception! Thanks for posting!. Also this is trite but Kissin's hair is so amusing to watch as he bobs his head up and down when he's playing haha. No hate just appreciation =) also, the guy behind him with the shades, that you see all throughout the video? Probably has no idea he's on RU-vid and over 15,000 people have seen his face from around the world xD
Listen with your eyes closed!!! I personally don't care even if a gorilla is playing, as long as the music is played with thought and musicality. As far as who's in the audience I couldn't care less ---- I come for the performance, not to see who's who!! ARE YOU AN AMERICAN?
I absolutely agree =] That's why I called those things trite, because they are. Truly I only noticed them after the 7th or 8th time I played this video. And in all honesty, if you'll only hear me out, I've probably listened to this video on my phone with the screen down more times than I can count, just because I simply love the music so much. It's so incredible, so pleasing to the ear. Still, I don't think it's "wrong" or "fake" of me to spot the superficial things when I do watch the video, and that's just my opinion. You are free to have and keep your own as well.
Ron Crooker I found a pristine copy of the score for this piece at a library book sale. Got it for one dollar! I never heard this Chopin work before. Kissin's interpretation is passionate and lyrical, yet full of fire when called for.
Peter Vantine Back in the early days, when your mom and I were taking lessons with Mimi and later Miss Flynn, Mimi used to play a few classical works - just to keep her fingers limber I suppose. I loved her playing the Rach C# minor Prelude. She played it with power too. She played other pieces not requiring power, but finger work - Sindig's Rustle of Spring and Kitten on the Keys and some others - light - but a touch demanding. She also played this but with a lighter touch, a bit less speedy I seem to recall,, but well. This was one of Chopin's I really liked. After joining the AF I don't think I ever heard Mimi play much, if any, pure classical. I Like Kissin's play though. He is good. His version of the Chopin 1st Piano Concerto is wonderful. Of course he plays it with Zubin Mehta and the Israeli Orchestra - can't get any better than that! Thanks for sending this along - I saved it to my library.
He has it all! Finesse, Bravura and exact precision. Not one sour note. In my opinion as a Composer and Connoisseur of Art and Culture, Kissin is the greatest Pianist of the modern era. And I've heard the best in my lifetime: Rubinstein, Horowitz, Van Cliburn, Watts, Zimmerman, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli etc. Kissin is at this caliber of Artist.
Kissin reminds me of the great pianists of yore like Horowitz etc. He plays brilliantly and with flair. I love his style. Maybe my favorite pianist of today. Certainly his rendition of Pictures at an Exhibition is my favorite. Bravo!
I'm not saying Sviatoslav Richter's is "better" but listen to his "Pictures at an Exhibition" live recording of his U.S. debut recital...David Hertzberg listing.
bevallom,sosem szerettelek,mindig zavart a tökéletesség!
Kissin has this unique execution and very detailed clarity and precision, backed with his unquenching vigor and stamina, but also this incredible outbursts of fluidity and spontaneity Ive seen no match, creating such perfect world that even Chopin himself, I suspect, would have been intrigued. Bravo. ; )
