The Helix is a real game changer. I play through a Marshal rack tube amp and 2 double Celestion cabs. I don't even use my collection of amps anymore.

Very true, and I just find it fun every time I plug in now. 90% of the time, I play right through my Presonus studio monitors. Love the tone and when I want to get loud, I run through 2 stereo PowerCab Plus's.

Awesome show Eric and FABULOUS patch. cant wait to try it out on my nre Helix LT which I recently ordered! Excited to finally be a part of the Helix community. speaking of which, you didnt mention that apart from the great product and customer support, its the HUGE Helix community that sets the Line 6 products apart with a zillion users out there sharing all their patches and tips/tricks and advice/help. You will NOT get that from any other product. they all have good to great sounds in them but its the community where you get the most bang for your buck. its the SYSTEM that makes it special. and Line 6 keeps updating it with new Amps/Efx and that is great that your expensive investment will still hold its value and wont force you to buy a new product every 2 years like all the rest. Sadly that was the main reason I upgraded from the Firehawk FX as they had not updating anything on that for ages unlike the Helix, which I can understand its a different price model and audience/customer base (amateur vs pros.) Im just a hobbyist but will love playing my Helix LT...... keep up all the great work on your channel

great video. look into tremolo stabilizer you can still whammy up and down but it stays in tune a lot better and does away with a lot of the problems that come with floating trems. i have some videos uploaded talking about them. well worth the $30 they go for. if you have any questions let me know

Detune is one of my all time favorite effects for guitar. Like chorus too but I always prefer detune since it doesn't have that same warble/oscillation that chorus does. You just get that smooth, musical sound. I used to catch all sorts of hell from friends when I'd tell them I preferred the Van Hagar tone compared to the old cranked Marshall brown sound. Don't get me wrong, I love the brown sound but when I hear Eddie's tone during the hagar era with the w/d/w eventide stuff, it's unmistakable and you know immediately who it is. Helix does the job very well here and this is a great sound. Preferred it with the settings at +7/-7 but I think a bump to -8/+8 would've sounded just about perfect. I don't foresee myself getting a Helix anytime soon since I own an Axe FX which can get me this sort of detune/stereo sound. I don't think I've managed to get quite this close though. Bravo!

Thank you kindly for sharing! And agreed Hagar era especially Balance, the tone was off the hook. You should hear what I have done (since this video). I have 3 Line 6 Powercab. 1 2x12, and 2 112's. I wrote a preset that sends XLR out to the 212 which is in the center. Sending only effects such as WAH, phase, flange, octave and chorus (similar to Ed's routing) This becomes the "Dry amp". Then out of the digital outputs I run a secondary path that includes Delays, reverbs, pitch detune etc out to the 112 L & R amps. To take it a step further I added an expression pedal block on that path and I can "roll in" how much wet I want. The best way to describe it, is like a big warm "tone hug" Thanks again for checking out my video!

You can do the same with a Magicstomp. I have mine in the stereo send return of my mixer. Great effect.

This sounds amazing! I’m running my Helix 4CM and want that EVH detune effect. I use a Luxe on my analog board. The Dual Pitch sounds great here. Where are you setting the Mix and V1 and V2 levels? And should I put it in front of the preamp or in my FX Loop?

It’s terrible, it only cost me 80 bucks and I regret it. Pitch shift is an effect that extremely subtle and only sounds good with capable gear.

Get the Eventide H 910 and H9000 plugins. The work perfect. The h 910 has the classic dual more preset 1984. 1% up / 1% down. For Balance in the Guitar World interview Eddies states "But everything has the Eventide harmonizer on it. The dry guitar signal is on the left, and the duplicate sound that the Eventide generates is on the right. I barely use the harmonizer as an effect; it's just to split my guitar to both sides of the stereo spectrum. I have it set to detune to 98, so it harmonizes just a little."

I like this kind of sound. I used pitchshifter in Boss Katana and I was happy with the sound but now with Helix I am starting again...it’s very good explained but I have a doubt. There was an option in Boss Katana: Pitchshifter mode (fast, medium, slow, mono). I would like to know if I have also this option in Helix. My setting was (only 1 voice): Interval 0, fine +15 (in Helix - cents) and pitch mode medium. I need help to reach out this medium mode!! Please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

From BOSS user guide: FAST, MEDIUM, SLOW, MONO The response is slower in the order of FAST, MEDIUM and SLOW, but the modulation is lessened in the same order. MONO is used for inputting single notes. * You may be unable to produce the intended effect when playing chords (two or more notes played simultaneously).

Nice playing and sound Eric the HX stomp sounds good. Can’t wait to try this set up on my helix LT but did you say the stomp has a strobe tuner I don’t think the helix has one does it?

Thank you so much!! Any pedal that will allow you to "de-tune" somewhat will work. You don't want to change the tuning per se, just the "cents". So you are throwing it every slightly out of tune. In a stereo environment, you would detune one side negative, the other positive. So example: -5/+5 etc

Sounds a bit more like the OU812 tone than the Balance tone (the "detune" brown sound)... and that's fine by me. Just my opinion, I know... but I think Ed's best tone is the OU812 sound. Listen to "Source of Infection" with headphones on... it will spin the inside of your head around and blow your mind! Eric Johnson said "Eddie's tone is phenomenal... extremely heady and atmospheric." All Eddie tone was nice, whatever era. But OU812 happens to be my favorite. The OU812 live sound was exactly like the record... his tone blew me away compared to the time I saw VH in days prior to OU812.

I have not completed building this preset (it's almost to my liking). And indeed they discontinued these IR's, it was a limited edition sale. When I do put the preset up, I will substitute the IR with a free one. It will still sound close (very close)

I'm sure you have explained this a.million times sorry if this is a repeat what is the chain guitar to helix to? Another mixing board to monitors?? I just got pod go and played side by with G5 pod still feels not organic brittle to my ears. Would you recommend running to mixer then house and or monitors. Alot of the tones have that half coxked wah sound to it. With my G5 it feels and sounds like the real deal and I can drop my volume and still keeps that amp feel tone?? I just must be getting old ears are going out. Lol thxs.

In the case of this video, I ran my Helix direct to my mixer. Which would be the same case in a live situation. You would probably run into a DI on the stage. If you are lucky enough to be able to run stereo (some venues will allow this, some won't depending on their sound systems) and then straight to the soundboard. PodGo can be done this way as well, with TRS to XLR cables out of the left & right outputs. TRS to XLR is still a balanced signal. Hope this helps!

Can you achieve the dual pitch Detune stereo sound with just the Helix stomp through, lets say an EVH 50 combo? Or do you need to have 3 cabs?

I just had this cool discussion the other day with a friend that got his 1st tube amp. Technically the only true way to do it, is with 3 separate amplifiers. In my case now, I run 3 Line 6 Powercabs. But, not everyone has 3 amps. So, even in a mono situation, like in your case with the 5150 and HX Effects, you can achieve a pleasant simulated sound. It will only be simulated but it will make enough of a difference that when you turn off the effect, you will be like "Whoah, where did the sound go?". Just use the pitch detune and use approx -7/+7 all the way up to -11/+11 anywhere in there, to your liking. Good luck! Report back!

Hey there Eric. The Celestion impulses are not of any specific cabinets. They are not like Ownhammer or 3 Sigma where they shoot impulses of speakers in specific brand name cabinets. For example, a V30 in a 4x12 Marshall 1960B cabinet or a 25-watt Greenback in a 4x12 EVH cabinet. That's why you don't see Celestion marketing their IRs as brand name cabinets. They just label them as either 1x12 (open or closed), 2x12 (open or closed) or 4x12.

Yes, these ones are, but they are discontinued. They are the G12EVH, and the ones that I purchased are the 5150III 4x12 closed back. That is the exact labelling of the IR.

Don’t get me wrong - it gets you to a nice copy of the tone, but in no way will the Line 6 compete with a tube amp, not to my ears. There is always this digital thing these things do that they’ve never solved.

Watch some of my much newer videos. There have been massive firmware updates. I prefer digital as it's close enough to the ears without having to lug around the gear. Some of the new amps in the updates are almost impossible to tell from the real thing.
