I have no clue who this guy is or why it was in my feed, but I’ll tell ya this: THIS cat is BRINGIN IT STRAIGHT!! No artifice, no affect, no bull$h!t ... just pure, egoless vibe and friggin HILARIOUS ta boot! I’m a DRUMMER & he’s gettin my INSTA-sub! 🤘🤘👏👏
I was able to snag one on Reverb brand new the night he passed. I have owned many Gibson R9's and PRS private stocks.....the build on this one is EXCEPTIONAL! It's artwork....solid....plays phenomenal and sounds killer! I have a 1971 quarter i'm installing and also put the 61071 neckplate on....not sure I will do the reflectors......but will sand the EVH logo off and put cigs under the strings and make the burn marks myself....love it!
When I started playing in the 80’s everything came with a case...even the cheap japan guitars...its just the way it was...nowadays people call this progress!!!!
@@bendynoodlecuminbitch4547 Inflation works the other way. $700 in 1985 is ~$1,800 today. A $389 guitar would have cost $150 in 1985 if all else were equal. What happened is, we started importing from China, plus now we have better automated machining processes. They are using cheaper materials now though.
This dude runs a solid channel. No BS, great personality, honest & well informed and since everyone is in reverance over EVH's sad passing the VH videos are outta sight...Subbed.
The fact that this guitar doesn't come with a Hardcase is inexcusable! The guitar is almost 2 grand and comes with no case, yet you can buy an Epiphone Lzzy Hale Explorer or a Slash Firebird for 700-800 Bucks and they come with Custom Hardcases! Fender really needs to include Hardcases for their guitars that are 1500 Bucks and beyond, as if Epiphone can do it, then Fender should be able to swing the 90 Bucks for a Hardcase!
Mine is coming in the mail next week...(in the EVH case I had to order separately...) all in all I know it is a made in Mexico strat when it's all said and done but I don't care. Living in an apartment I don't have a garage to build one and having one hanging in the guitar room is instant inspiration and a tribute to the master. From all accounts it is an incredibly smooth playing guitar and the Wolfgang pickup sounds awesome. Worth every penny. Thanks for the honest review brother and awesome playing!
Thanks for taking the time, man! Great review as always and spot on about the case. As of this morning, mine is now moved out to Nov 21. It’ll get here when it gets here. Just glad I’m waiting for something that really seems to be worth the wait! I feel a lot better after watching this.
I bought one and it actually broke in the box. They sent a new one but the head was broken so I agree on the packaging. The guitar itself is totally awesome!!!!!!!
I agree 100% it should come with a nice EVH hard shell case. However I ordered one anyway, I'm planning on spending the extra $150 for the case. What can I say Eddie was that special and this guitar is very sentimental.
Hey Marko! Great review. I got my Frankenstrat over 2 months ago, from Sweetwater before Eddies tragic passing. I still had to wait a month back then. I got them to actually throw in the EVH hard case. I ended up getting the guitar and case for $1500 cause they originally told me it was supposed to come w the relic kit (reflectors and 71’ quarter, but it didn’t. Yours looks just like mine, its awesome. Love your music and the new video. Got that cool 80’s vibe, you ROCK!
Glad I just found your channel. Great vid again. Thank you 🙏, I have the unchained evh , the black one and yellow one. They all play very good. Thanks again. I just might have to grab this one.
Even though I just play at home, I have to say that I agree on the gig bag. I purchased a Wolfgang standard a few years ago and wasn’t expecting anything but the guitar but thought, just maybe, this one would’ve. I was a little disappointed but yes, love this guitar! It’s pretty lightweight too. The neck is pretty dark on mine but definitely like the feel. You’ve got some chops...Great review!!
Thanks for the honest review and I agree about the lack of bag. I really enjoy your articulate reviews and am a fan now. EVH of course was a legend and having a piece of his legacy is a dream. I’ve done a couple replicas and still have one of these on order. Keep up the good work!
Mine just arrived today and it’s amazing. Like some have mentioned, the fretboard is still pretty dark as they went a little to hard on the relic job there. I’m not sure they’ve addressed that issue. Mine might have been one that was back ordered due to COVID and not the demand shock following Ed’s passing. That’s really the only gripe and mind you it’s a very minor one. It’s an all around outstanding guitar. Not sure if anyone has any tips as to cleaning up the neck a little. It’s actually hard to see some of the markers at times.
Hi Marko, I really like your honest opinions - more people should be like you. Very refreshing. I love your guitars too - good taste in guitars. Keep up the good work - you should have 300K subscribers! Regards Leon
Read the fine print. Next time you spend over $1000 I suggest talking to a person not just clicking. I agree, that's cheap to not have a gig bag. However, you assumed. You're more upset that you didn't realize that. I make sure I know exactly what I'm getting even if it's small purchase. I do appreciate your honest review. Rock on man! Great video!
Because of this video, I went ahead and ordered a hard shell case to have my EVH Standard Trans Yellow (orange) I had overlooked that they just might ship it without a gig bag or case. Thanks for sparking my brain to cover my new axe!
That's a honest review as you said. The guitar is fantastic (hope to buy one one day). You seem to "pick" the notes like Malmsteem. I mean, the movement up and down of your pick. I'm a new subscriber from Canada. Enjoy your new guitar my friend !
Dude that’s a bad ass guitar and I’m gonna get one eventually. I’ve been a Van Halen fan since 1983, before the 1984 album came out. That’s screwed up that they don’t throw in a gig bag. I’m going to order one of these guitars myself and It just amazes me that they charge so much money for a guitar that they throw in a box and wrap with thin foam sheeting. It was great to see someone actually review this guitar from a standalone standpoint and not around the Eddie Van Halen name. Even though that’s why I want one lol
Totally agree about the lack of case. I just got mine delivered today but I knew it wouldn't come with a case. Picked up a tweed fender case that it looks great in.
If you watch Andertons tour of the Fender Custom Shop, 95% of the workshop staff are of Mexican, so even your Custom Shops are made in Mexico in a sense. Charvel Mexican made guitars are phenomenal. Don't be fooled with thinking 'Made in USA' is best, you get excellent made Asian and Mexican made guitars.
Nah its not toned down, its just the lighting making it look brighter. Even the red paint and the dummy single coil in this video is brighter than it is in person
@@-EndlessNameless- Ahh yes, that makes sense. I wished they kept the original striped pattern and finish that was seen at the 2020 NAMM display model. I also agree with a comment below not to remove the EVH logo, that would substantially reduce its value.
@@coconutman351 Totally agree mate, they have gone way over the top with the neck shading. It doesnt look relic at all, it just looks like dark wood, almost burnt.
Based on your review and that I'm a rookie, I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Custom and agree that the quality is much better than I expected. Was really hesitant at first. I'll wait for the Frankie but when I'm ready sounds like a great guitar - sentimental for sure. First guitar that blew my mind as a kid. Thanks for the review
I have so many cases and gig bags , i could care less if i ever get another one. That being said, I have a Chinese built Wolfgang Special and it came with the coolest hard shell cases I have ever seen.
@@kitoyobeni1 The Specials were originally made in Japan and then manufacturing moved to China. When they moved manufacturing to Mexico they redesigned them. The Japanese and Chinese models were identical to American made guitars except they didn't have a carved top and had a maple veneer instead of maple cap. They even came with the same case.
Got mine today. It's pretty awesome. As they said it's not an "exact" replica. But close enough to finish it up and get as close as a mere mortal like me can get it too. I got the neckplate, reflectors, D mint '71 quarter on order. My Floyd's fine tuners are much tighter than I'd like but i think they will loosen up over time so that may not be a bad thing. And I agree totally that for the amount of cash it costs for one of these it should come with the EVH case. So, I'm gonna have to shell out another $159 for the correct case. It's going to need a good setup. The spring on the low E was actually sitting on the body on mine. I was able to get it off the body and readjust the Floyd and tune it. The spring and the D-Tuna are a little closer to the body than I'd like it to be but it's farther now than it was out of the box. UPDATE: Had to return it for a refund due to defective Floyd.
I have the non-relic version, the regular stripe version because it's the only EVH Stripe Series they make as a lefty. And I love it. The neck is unbelievable. It's a very fun guitar to play, and happy to own! Not wiping down the neck at all, letting it get all mucky and relic'd out! Ordered it via Sweetwater Music back in October of 2020, just received it a week ago.
Wow! Looks fantastic. I have one preordered and I was having second thoughts because so many reviews showcased a neck that was excessively stained and looked nothing like EVH’s historical instrument. Seeing this one makes me hopeful about getting one that has a neck that is visually accurate to the spirit of the guitar we all know and love. Thanks for the great review!
I think they’re rushing to turn these things out so fast at this point that they’re just completely skipping that part of the relicing process; you’re right, the early ones they overdid it. If you do get one of those just take some steel wool or micromesh to it and sand away down to the actual maple.
I’m glad I watched this! I’ve got one coming (hopefully soon)! I see now I need to purchase a nice hard shell case! Really surprised it didn’t ship with one!
I agree about the case, definitely scratching my head over that. Like you said, at least a cheap gig bag? I sprung for an EVH hardshell case because it just makes sense to have one. So i'm into it for like $2200 but these are truly special guitars and I figured I'd just complete the package. I'd never pay this much for a MIM guitar as a general rule, but this guitar is obviously something special and for guys who love the "Frankie" look, I think it's a great investment.
I'm with you on the case/gigbag! I had the same reaction when I opened mine. You should feel lucky, mine was shipped with the guitar upside down as well.
Hey Marko, this question has nothing to do with your video, but do you know what guitar Billy Gibbons is playing in his recent videos, it has a SG body, and a Flying V neck stock, thanks for your answer. What input jack are you using? Thanks.
About the case, my understanding is that it's a business issue. EVH/Fender do not manufacture the EVH bags and cases. It's done by a third party. If they wanted to use the EVH cases, they would either have to ship them to the warehouses that pack the guitars, or have the guitars shipped to somewhere else in order to repack them there. Logistically, this is a nightmare. This would also cause an increase in product pricing. And, contractually, they can't just use any cheap case or bag when they pack them in Mexico, because that would violate the terms they have with the exclusive manufacturer of their branded bags and cases. There's always a reason for these things, and it's usually a financial and/or legal one. It sucks, but here we are.
Right, but for that price (or what... maybe 25$ their cost) they could send bags to the Mexico location and have them packed there. This is easy logistics.
Kickass. .I picked up a Judah guitars relic frankie a while back bc my friend Mark Day (of Fractal...hes a rep...was a tone merchant's salesguy for Friedman when I met him. He said hes played Ed's guitar and frankly these play better ! Glad 2 see them making an affordable version for ppl who think 25k for the total EVH version by Fender Custom is a bit too much! Haha it ain't a 59 LP come on!
If I had the money I’d get one. Yes they should come with an Evh shell case. For that $$$ it should also have the quarter, the blue paint, the proper strap screws, the reflectors on the back. The one I made looked like that and it was so much fun to build myself
I know how you feel brother. I bought a Silver Sky 3 weeks ago and when I saw that a $2500 guitar came in a gig bag it made me nauseous and angry. Nice bag, but still a head scratcher. I can’t imagine spending that kind of money and it coming in cardboard only. I’d be just as pissed. On the plus side, it will look amazing laying in the EVH hard case with the plaque.
I see alot of people freaking out and making comments over the guitar made in Mexico ----- Let me say that personally i would LOVE LOVE for it to be USA model but the price would be double (over $3500) and out of reach for many people. With that said, guitars made in Mexico have IMPROVED ALOT in the past 5 years or so and much improved build/wood and craftmanship!...... The current Fender Stratocastesr from Mexico are well made and the current Charvels made in Mexico with the Floyd Rose (pro mods and other models) are kick ass guitars, i own a Mexican pro mod in red and it is close to my USA San Dimas (well build, plays excellent, sounds good).. Just try and play 1 and see, for people to just automatically say "junk, garbage" etc etc WITHOUT EVEN TRYING 1 is silly, its old stereotypes, just try with a open mind, thats all im saying
Yup.. I got mine and Fed Ex impaled the box leaving a divot the size of a quarter. Should come with case. I kept it because I literally ordered it the morning before the horrible news. Yes, sentimental. Called the shop (SW), I bought it from, and they had one somehow. Offered me a swap. Awesome folks. They sent it to me, this time with a case. I kept them both! Awesome guitars.
@@joeyjoejoejrshabadoo4311 Oh I bought 'em both. But they offered some compensation for the dinged one and a free case for the new one. So yes, now I have two. Perfectly fine. I can look at one while I play the other. It's a sick fetish I'm sure. :)
Buy a USA select Charvel So Cal.2 grand with case.Ive been playing guitar 20 years,EVH is one of my hugest influences but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna pay 1,600 for a guitar without a case, fuck that noise.
And, most of the great made guitars today are overseas. I bet that thing plays incredible! Give it a test run and II bet you forget about that shipping container brother! Nice Axe...
Ordered mine SIX MONTHS ago and they finally just charged my card. So guessing it will ship any day. Almost decided to cancel the order, but watching this video again got me all excited once more!
Agreed about the case/gig bag. Should be included at that price point. You can get a 180 dollar guitar off of Amazon that comes with a bag, strap and cable!!
I got mine yesterday. I also was shocked it shipped in a box. What a joke. Other than that I did a setup which consisted of shimming the neck and floating the floyd. After that I couldn’t stop playing it. I agree one hundred percent with this review. As a stand alone guitar it’s a top notch instrument. Add the super cool hand relic and it’s definitely one you can’t get enough of!
I have one of each of the striped series, minus the $20k+ version. All of them are GREAT guitars. This is a great review! Side note: what is that little mixing unit on your desk?
I agree with the author of this video. I was amazed that this guitar did not even come with a gig bag. My Wolfgang Speciial that cost $400 less came with a EVH Wolfgang hard case.
Great review! want to pick one up so bad but theyr're out of stock just about everywhere.... do you know where I might be able find one of these in stock?
Excellent dude!!! Enjoy it you lucky guy. It’s all good but at least wrap it in some big bubble wrap not thin foam wrap. Eddie liked it loud and bright...a true stage performance ax for huge venues not your bedroom.
Not a lot of packing material for a new vintage classic guitar that's worth nearly 2 grand & some comments indicate the guitar should have come in a hard case (with all the packing material, of course), however you do play very well, my friend. 🤟🤟🙏🙏RIP EVH 😭😭🙏
Alright so this new striped series guitar looks so authentic...i wish they had this new style offered for lefty guitars too...does anyone know if they will eventually do that or probably not...there is another lefty striped series guitar but idk it looks fake...any feedback on the difference,if it's worth getting etc...any feedback would be greatly appreciated...he was my favorite guitarist and I want to learn how to play the guitar because of him...RIP
I love you Marco... the honestly is so appreciated! I just purchased one of these... 2 years later… got a deal at my friends at Pro Audio Star in New York and obviously very worried about it being shipped during the Winter from IC wintery New York to balmy 80゚ California mid February…. I'll probably leave it in the box to aclimate for at least a week, but really how much will it make a difference? It blows me away that they can't throw in a $50-60 gig bag like my made in USA Les Paul Trubute I got for $1000, especially considering all the time and effort put into such a kick ass guitar. How do you ship it out In just a fucking box… nuts! Mine will arrive in about a week, and I hope I don't have to ship it back for some reason!! Back to the video!
Thank you for this very close up and vivid video! They couldn't be bothered to relic the empty volume & tone pot holes in the pickguard at 7:11 and 8:33??? That's lame.
I know how special it was so I got a hardshell case with my Bumble Bee . EVH case is so nice even though it will be hanging up most of the time. Very nice.
Is the relic'ing over the clear coat or underneath? I agree with that, but I think the cases for it are going to be really high. Where are you playing? I'd go see you :)
Having just received the new Limited Edition Sassafras Wolfgang special at $1,399.99 I feel exactly like you. No case, no gig bag...ridiculous. Plus I was told by EVH customer service that only 200 of the Sassafras were produced and STILL no case. Not to mention that any and all EVH products (cases) are near impossible to purchase. The Wolfgang is fantastic, so at least the product itself is great. But the reputation of the company can hinge on things like price points and no case.
A guitar at that price point should come with a case. I bought a Gibson LP Standard for not much more from a local dealer and it came with a case and case candy. The LP is also made here in America.
I just got one of these and I'm really happy with how it sounds and feels, but mine buzzes like crazy whenever I'm not touching the strings or the bridge, none of my other guitars do this so I know it's not my amp, I suspect it's probably s grounding issue or a lack of any proper shielding due to it not having a full scratch plate with shielding tape on it. And the D Tuna is coming off, I can't get it to work, when I pull it out it's slightly out of tune, and if I get it tuned to D then lock it down and push the D Tuna in the E ends up sharp and the fine tuner does nothing because the part that it screws down to change the pitch is hard against the body. Absolutely shocking that it has no case or gig bag too, but I just love the feel of it and it sounds great through my Marshall JCM2000.
My opinion: For that price... the guitar should come with a hard-case, never mind a gig bag. But at least a nice gig bag, at the very least. And not just a dust-cover, but a legit bag. Now, that said.... I think you over-reacted. LOL Just my opinion. But hey Bro - I love the vid, and I think you did a great job. I also love the honest feed-back, whether I agree or not. And man... that guitar is HOT!! I have 2 of these... but they are not EVH Franks. They are knock-offs. I have modded them heavily, and there was a TON of set-up involved. But they both turned out awesome. Still.... I am certain they are not as cool as yours. What an awesome guitar!! I'm subbing you now.
